Coming to theaters across the country on Friday, August 2, 2024, is the film Peak Season.
Peak Season stars Claudia Restrepo, Derrick Joseph DeBlasis, and Ben Coleman. The film also stars Stephanie Courtney, who plays “Flo” in the Progressive auto insurance commercials (among other things). Fun fact… her father used to be a teacher in the high school my kids also attended (Stephanie attended there as well, years before my kids attended there).
Amy (Restrepo) and her fiancé Max (Coleman) take a vacation to their friend’s home in Wyoming. It’s a far cry from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan where they are from.
Max is a bit of a workaholic. He’s always on the phone or computer with work related things. Amy is trying to take a break from things, most especially because she’s unhappy with her current job.
The pair are also planning for an elaborate wedding.
Friend’s of the couple make arrangements for them to get some fly fishing lessons. Due to his job, Max needs to fly back to New York, but he encourages Amy to go fly fishing anyway. That is when she meets Loren, the fly fishing instructor.
Loren is a drifter who works odd jobs and lives in his truck with his dog, Dorothy.

The pair strike up a friendship and end up spending a lot of time together.
Stepping back from her career and life with Max makes Amy see everything in a different light, thanks to Loren and his chosen lifestyle. Loren chooses to live the way he does, and he’s for the most part happy with his life choices.
Will Amy end up heading back to New York to marry Max, or will her life take a drastic turn? To find out, go see Peak Season. Look for it at a theater near you.
Peak Season is filmed around the Teton Mountains in Wyoming. That alone makes watching this film worthwhile. The scenery in this film is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. It made me want to pack my bags and move there (I happen to live in New York too, although thankfully not in the city). The Teton Mountains made the perfect backdrop for this film.
Acting was good. All the actors were very believable as their characters. I actually appreciate that they chose someone like DeBlasis to play the role of Loren, and not some “Hollywood heartthrob.” With his messy hair and rugged beard, he totally looked the part. The character would have been less convincing if it was played by someone like Ryan Gosling or Chris Hemsworth (both are great actors, don’t get me wrong).

DeBlasis reminded me of Dustin Diamond as “Screech” from Saved by the Bell. I don’t know why.
If you are looking for a high-octane, fast paced action/adventure film, this film is not for you. If you want to sit back, relax, enjoy spectacular scenery and a calm, simple film, then you’ll want to check out Peak Season.
I was very surprised by the ending. I honestly thought the ending would have been a lot different than it actually was. Even though some aspects of the film was predictable (as it is with most films), the ending what not what I predicted. I was rather shocked by the ending. I was really hoping it would have gone a different way.
Peak Season has a run time of 82 minutes. It’s unrated. I would think this film would be a PG or PG-13. There is no sex or nudity, and I honestly can’t remember if there was any bad language. There as no violence either. The only bad thing was smoking cigarettes and drinking here and there.
The film is produced by Entertainment Squad.
