Tianhuo Island is as beautiful as a paradise. It almost makes people forget that it is in the “Ring of Fire” the world-famous Pacific Rim volcanic belt. Young geologist Li Xiaomeng brings her team to the island to develop the first volcanic monitoring system. Her father, Li Wentao, a volcanic expert who was on the island 20 years ago when it erupted, rushes to the crater after learning about it, trying to persuade his daughter to leave.
The volcano erupts and the fate of everyone on the island becomes entangled. In order to see the sun of tomorrow, they must reconcile with the past, and work together to find their way to safety.
Young Meng Li (Quinlivan) grew up following her scientist parents around while they studied volcanoes. Sadly, it’s a volcano that took her mother’s life.
Knowing how incredibly dangerous volcanoes can be, Meng grew up to become a scientist who studies volcanoes. She is trying to develop a way of knowing when a volcano is about to erupt to help saves lives. Her father is totally against her being on an island with a volcano. He worries that it might become active again and he’ll lose his daughter too.
The island is is also in development by a businessman, Jack Harris (Issacs). Unbeknown to his potential investors, he’s in debt and desperately needs to get his resort on the island up and running.
Harris does not take the volcano seriously. He doesn’t see that it’s a danger. He just sees it as a money maker. He even has a monorail-type shuttle that takes people to the very top of the volcano, so they can look into directly from a “safe” vantage point.
Meng has tried to warn Harris about how dangerous having a resort on the island is, but he refuses to heed her warning.
Meng’s concerns about the volcano come to life when it starts erupting. The problem is that there are many people on the island, from people who live there (workers) and guests. There are even people at the top of the volcano who are potentially trapped.
Now it’s up to Meng and a few of her friends and fellow scientists to help rescue those that are stranded and get everyone off the island as soon as possible. That is easier said than done.
How many lives will be lost? Will Meng be able to get herself off the island before it’s too late? To find out, check out Skyfire. Look for it where ever you request movies On Demand.
The version of the film I reviewed was subtitled in English, but there is English spoken by some of the characters. So I’d say it’s half English, half Chines (specifically Mandarin).
I will be honest, I hate watching subtitled films. I feel like I spend more time reading what people are saying, and less time watching the action on the screen. But after seeing the trailer for this film, I thought I would give it a chance.
WOW! WOW! WOW! I am so glad that I did! This movie is AWESOME! I’m not just saying that too. I still was not happy having to read subtitles, but you really didn’t even need to read what people were saying. The action on the screen says it all.
The storyline is great. It might sound a bit cliché (people stuck some place where a volcano is erupting – as is with the movie Volcano), but there is nothing else cliché about this film.
This film kicks a$$!
The special effects are amazing. You would honestly think that it’s a real volcano that is erupting. Kudos to the film makers for their awesome special effects.
The action on the screen had me on the edge of the sofa – literally! There were some really intense parts of the film that had my eyes pinned to the screen. The action is this film is crazy!
The actors and actresses did a wonderful job. Even though I couldn’t understand what they were saying (without the subtitles), they sill acted out the scenes effortlessly.
If you love action films with top-notch special effects and a great storyline, you must see Skyfire. Please don’t let the subtitles keep you away from watching this film. Trust me, it’s totally worth your while.
Below is the trailer for your enjoyment. I could not find any official website or social media accounts for this film.
