Now available where you rent/purchase digital movies is the gritty crime drama, The 6th. The film is from Breaking Glass Pictures.

Attorney Marcus Coles (Burchell), is known for his fierce courtroom battles and playboy reputation, and a passion for defending the 6th amendment. Though his typical clients are hip-hop’s elite, Marcus is drawn into a case involving a cop falsely accused of stealing evidence. As he dives deeper into the case, he uncovers a criminal conspiracy within the police, soon facing escalating threats from dangerous players as he seeks the truth. With time running out, he must expose a web of corruption, betrayal, and deceit before it’s too late.
The film’s title refers to the 6th Amendment, here is a brief synopsis.
-
- Speedy and public trial: The accused has the right to a quick and open trial.
- Impartial jury: The accused has the right to an impartial jury from the state and district where the crime occurred.
- Notice of accusation: The accused has the right to know the nature and cause of the accusation.
- Confrontation with witnesses: The accused has the right to confront the witnesses against them.
- Assistance of counsel: The accused has the right to legal representation.
This film might not be some people’s “cup of tea.” It dives deep into Police corruption, which sadly does happen in real life. Maybe not to this degree, but it does happen. Of course, corruption can happen at any business and institution too.
The acting is pretty good. I think that each actor was very convincing in their roles. They are not big name Hollywood actors, but they are good actors. I feel like Burchell especially did a fabulous job.
There is one character in the film with the condition called Vitiligo. Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder that causes white patches to appear on the skin. I think it’s great that this film has a variety of actors. I hope that other movie studios make note of that.
That character does speak Spanish at the beginning of the film. I wish it was subtitled because I had no clue what he was saying.
I don’t like that Marcus was a bit of a “player,” hopping into bed with different women. I’m not sure if that was really necessary for the storyline. There is one situation involving a video of one of his girlfriends which is vital to the investigation, but other than that I didn’t think it was necessary.
This film has a lot of “twists and turns.” Just when you think Marcus is going to be able to wrap this case up, other things happen that “throws a wrench” into everything – all while trying NOT to get implicated or killed.
If you love crime dramas, you will love this film. I personally like crime dramas. I like to play “sleuth” too and try and figure out who is the “bad guy.” In this film there is more than one person that Marcus needs to be weary of. I love it when a film keeps you guessing until the very end.
This film is not predictable. The ending might be, but what happens from the beginning until the end is not predicable in any way.
Drugs, guns, murder, missing evidence, dirty cops, crooked politician, thugs… this film has a lot going on.
This film is rated “R” for violence, sexual situations, nudity and four language. It has a run time of of just under an hour and forty-five minutes.
