There is a legend that deep in the woods if found a witch. Coincidentally, a lot of people go missing in those woods. One such person is Piper’s (Lutz) brother Jason and his girlfriend. Even the Police are reluctant to enter those woods to look for them.
Piper decides to go looking for her brother in the cursed woods, with or without anyone’s help.
Piper’s best friend Mallory (Walker) and Piper’s boyfriend Cody (Burch) decide to go with her. Even Mallory’s ditzy boyfriend Devin (McCoy) comes along, even though he keeps telling Piper that her brother is dead (let’s just say Devin lacks empathy).
Will Piper be able to find her brother, and prove to everyone that he’s still alive? Will the group be able to solve the mystery of the disappearing people? And what of the legendary Texas Witch, is she real or just a story people made up. To find the answer to all these questions, check out The Texas Witch. Look for it on the above platforms.
I grew up playing in the woods behind my house. A story about a witch roaming the woods probably wouldn’t scare me when I was younger. Now that I’m grown and know better, I don’t think I would be caught dead in such woods (no pun intended).
This film has a very slow burn. Most of the action happens in the last 20+ minutes.
My husband was watching the film with me and asked when something was going to happen. He knew it was a horror movie, but not much horror goes on initially. There are some kills, but nothing I would consider scary. It’s the last 20+ minutes of the film where the horror truly begins.
I liked the setting of the film It didn’t come across as scary during the day, but at night time those deep, dark woods turned into something very foreboding. Then again, I’m not a fan of camping in the woods (too many scary movies like this one – ha ha).
When the horror really kicked in it was pretty good. As a die hard horror movie fan it takes a lot to impress me.
I don’t get scared watching horror movies. However, if you are someone who is easily scared, this film might have you jumping out of your seat, especially when something horrific happens but you don’t know it’s about to happen because it’s more like an entity doing it than a person. The fear of the unknown is truly showcased in this film.
There is plenty of blood. Thankfully it wasn’t overly gory. It seems like a lot of horror films these days are all about the blood and guts and not really having a story line. This film did have a lot of blood, and some impressive kills (the beheading of a character at the very end was awesome).
Most movies are a bit predictable. You have an idea of which characters are going to be killed off first (how they get killed off is always a mystery). Often the endings are even predictable. I must say the ending of The Texas Witch was not as predictable as I thought it would be. I had an idea of who MIGHT survive (if that), but the “how” part and “what will happen next” was not easy to figure out at all. In fact, It thought the movie was over at one point, but the film makers snuck in an ending I didn’t see coming.
This film has a run time of about an hour and forty minutes. I am not sure of the rating, but I would say it’s rated “R” due to graphic violence, drug use and sexual situations.
