Now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital is the thriller, The Wolf of Snow Hollow. Some might consider this a horror movie, but as a die hard horror movie fan, I would consider it more of a suspenseful, “who done it,” thriller.
The film stars Jim Cummings, Riki Lindhome, and Robert Forster.
Office Marshall (Cummings) is VERY high strung and stressed out (he seems like he drank about a gallon or so of coffee). He’s a recovering alcoholic, he has a teenage daughter heading off to college (he also doesn’t have a good relationship with her) and he’s worried about his father’s health (Sheriff Hadley). He’s in line to take over his father’s position once he retires. In addition to all of this, he has anger issues too.
There is a murder in Snow Hollow. Snow Hollow sees about 1-2 murders per year, so they don’t think too much is strange with this murder, with the exception of the parts of the victim that were removed, and large, animal footprints found near the victim.
People are on edge because they don’t know if the victim was killed by a murder, or an animal. Officer Marshall is convinced it was a person, but others think it might be some kind of an animal, even a werewolf.
As time goes on there are more victims, and with each one, Officer Marshall is convinced that it’s a man who is killing the people around town. But a lot of the evidence points to some kind of an animal, or wolf, that is doing the killings.
Who (or what) is killing the people around Snow Hollow? Can it/he/she be stopped before they kill again? Will Officer Marshall end up in the looney bin before the mystery is solved (seriously… he’s VERY high strung!). To find out you need to purchase or rent The Wolf of Snow Hollow. Look for it where ever movies are sold, rented or streamed.
Judging by the trailer, I thought this was going to be more of a horror movie (scarier?). It wasn’t for me, but that is because I’m a die hard horror movie fan. It takes A LOT to impress me when it comes to the horror genre. However, for other people, they might find this film worthy of closing their eyes at certain spots, especially if you are easily spooked. There are not necessarily too many jump scares in this film (a few), but for some people, this film could be scary.
This film is a bit of a comedy too. Even though Officer Marshall is stressed to the max, he still makes comments from time to time that are funny (laugh worthy). It’s hard to take his character too seriously at times because of the snarky things that he says. He also is so high strung, you’d swear that his heart was going to explode.
The story line is pretty good. I like the story, I just wish the film had more scary parts.
I consider this a “who done it” type of film (mystery) because you don’t know until the end if the killer is a man, woman, or beast. You might THINK you know, but you won’t until the end of the film. Bravo to the film makers for keeping the killer a secret until the very end. Even my husband didn’t figure out who/what the killer was.
Is this an award winning film? No, but it is entertaining. I don’t know if I would purchase the film, or rent it again. But if I happened to see it on one of the premium channels (HBO, Showtime…), I would watch it again. Just watching Cumming’s character alone made it all worth while. He was funny, and I was waiting to see him “snap” over the stress over everything that was going on in his life at that point in time (his conversation with his ex-wife was the best part).
