My family and I love the Toy Story franchise. The original Toy Story was the first movie my husband and I saw together when we were dating. We even had Buzz and Woody “witness” a contract that we wrote. My husband loved the film so much that his God daughters bough him Buzz and Woody dolls. My husband and I wrote up a “contract” that we’d be together for 99 years, and we had Buzz and Woody “witness” it and size the contract. LOL! My husband still has 76 years to go. Ha Ha.
We’ve seen all of the Toy Story films. We’ve loved them all (the second one was the weakest). It’s hard not to fall in love with all of the characters in the film.
Toy Story 3 was released in 2010. It’s been 9 long years since we’ve seen a movie in the franchise. I was super excited to learn that there was a fourth movie in the works, and I couldn’t wait to see it. Sadly, we never had the chance to see it while it was in theaters. That’s OK because the film is now available for home viewing. Toy Story 4 is available on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K on October 8, 2019. It’s already been available on digital.
I was sent a screener copy of the film to review.
It’s been years since the Toy Story gang have seen Andy. They have been with Bonnie since Andy gave them all to her.
Bonnie is growing up. She doesn’t play with her toys like she used to. Sadly, Woody seems to be played with less and less and spends more time in the closet watching her play with his friends.
Bonnie is about to start kindergarten. Begrudgingly, Bonnie has to attend a kindergarten orientation. While there, she finds herself scared and lonely. Using some arts and crafts supplies, Bonnie creates a character out of trash that she names Forky. Bonnie finds is comforting to have her new friend Forky with her.
Woody sees how important Forky is to Bonnie and promises to keep it safe for her sake.
The week before kindergartens starts, Bonnie and her parents go on a road trip. The entire group of characters goes with her – Buzz, Mr. & Mrs. Potatohead, Rex, Slinky, Hamm and others. Woody and Forky are also along for the ride.
While on the road trip, Forky escapes and Woody takes it upon himself to find him and bring him back before Bonnie notices that he’s gone.
Woody does find Forky, and the duo make their way back to the RV park where Bonnie and her family are, in hopes of getting there before Bonnie notices. Along the way they come across an antique store. Woody thinks his long lost love, Bo Peep, might be there after he notices her lamp in the window.
Inside the shop they meet up with a doll named Gabby and Vincent, her puppet friend. Gabby is up to no good. Woody flees, but Forky is help captive.
At one point Woody finds himself at a playground where he meets up with Bo Peep, who is now a part of a group known as the lost toys. Bo Peep is happy not to belong to a child anymore. Her and her friends enjoy their freedom.
Bo Peep offers to help Woody get Forky. In the meantime, the other friends do what they can to stall the family from leaving, giving Woody time to find Buzz and Forky before it’s too late.
Will Woody be able to get Forky back to Bonnie in time? Will Bo Peep go back with Woody and be a toy that belongs to Bonnie? To find out, you need to pick up a copy of Toy Story 4. Look for it where ever movies are sold.
I LOVED this film. It’s a great film. Dare I say that I loved this as much as the original film.
Make sure that you have tissues when you watch this film. Trust me. I won’t go into details, but I was shocked at how the film ended and it broke my heart.
Be sure to watch through the end credits too. There are additional scenes within the end credits.
I love the new characters introduced in this film. Giggle McDimples is adorable and Duck & Bunny are funny.
I was surprised to learn that the new character of Duke Caboom was voice by Keanu Reeves.
There are a lot of famous actors and actresses who lend their voices to this film. All of the original cast is back (Tim Allen, Tom Hanks…). In this film you also have Keanu, Christina Hendricks, Jordan Peele, Annie Potts, Carl Weathers, Patricia Arquette, Flea, Betty White and Jeff Garlin, to name a few. It seems like a lot of celebrities are fans of the franchise and what to take part of it.
Of course there are a lot of great bonus features worth checking out.
