Get a head start on the future this holiday season when the epic sci-fi action-adventure Tron: Ares, now available on digital platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. Just in time for winter break viewing, the newest chapter in the Tron saga invites fans to experience a bold new world and a high-velocity spectacle right from home. The edge-of-your-seat action expands in the new year when Tron: Ares powers onto 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and DVD beginning January 6, 2026.
Get ready for the electrifying action and adventure of Tron: Ares. When a highly sophisticated Program named Ares is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, it marks humankind’s first encounter with AI beings.
I will admit that I have never seen a Tron movie. I’m rather surprised that I never saw the original film, Tron, when it came out in 1982. I really enjoy Sci-Fi films. I also did not see Tron: Legacy, which was released in 2010.
In case you are not familiar with this film series, here is a little background.
The Tron movies are about a video game maker named Kevin Flynn, who gets digitalized and trapped inside a computer world called the “Grid.” He must team up with a security program named “Tron” to fight the evil Master Control Program (MCP) that controls the digital realm. The sequels, Tron: Legacy and Tron: Ares, expand on this concept, with the former exploring Flynn’s son entering the Grid and the latter focusing on a program named Ares venturing into the real world.
Often with squeals you don’t necessarily have to had seen the previous films in the series to enjoy them. You just need to know the gist of what happened in previous films. Since I honestly didn’t know anything about the Tron movies, or what Tron was even about, I went into watching this film blindly. I think with Tron: Ares, you’d appreciate it more if you knew a bit of the background story.
I was a bit lost when it came to the specifics of the story line. I sort of got it as time went on, but I truly wish that I had seen at least one of the previous films, so that the story line made more sense to me.
As far as acting is concerned, they were all fantastic actors. This film stars Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jeff Bridges, Gillian Anderson, and others.
What really makes this film entertaining is the special effects. They are crazy! Much kudos to the people who did all the digital and CGI effects. I was so impressed that I would love to see this film on a larger screen just so I can appreciate the special effects even more.
There is a lot of high speed chases, explosions and edge-of-your-seat action sequences. I liken this to a Fast and a Furious film, but more futuristic.
I plan on watching Tron: Legacy to see if I can learn more about the Tron story, so I can appreciate this film even more. I think I might skip the original film as it’s very old and I’m sure the story probably changed since the first two films, especially considering all the “movie magic” that has evolved over the years.
