Now playing at select theaters across the country, as well as on digital platforms and On Demand is the action film Twist.
Twist stars Michael Caine, Rita Ora, Noel Clarke, Sophie Simnett, Jason Maza, Franz Drameh with David Walliams and Lena Headey and introducing Raff Law (son of actor Jude Law).
Young Oliver Twist grew up with his single mom. They had a great appreciation for art, which inspired Oliver to be an artist – a skill he would use later on in life.
Sadly, Oliver’s mom passed away when Oliver was a young boy. Instead of going into foster care, Oliver took off to live on the streets on his own.
As Oliver go older, he turned his love of art into street art, painting images where ever he went, including the sides of skyscrapers around London.
One day when Oliver was trying to flee the Police, he meets up with a couple of young people, Batesy and Dodge (Ora and Drameh).
When they were helping Oliver to flee, he lost his pants. Instead of letting Oliver run around in just his boxer shorts, they took him back to their “headquarters” to get him some new clothes and to introduce him to their “boss” of sorts, Fagen (Cain).
Oliver learns that Fagin and his merry band of misfits steal from other criminals. Someone jokingly referred to Fagin as “Robin Hood.” Fagin also works with a not-so-nice woman named Sikes (Headey).
Oliver, now known as “Twist,” joins the group and is immediately smitten with “Red” (Simnett). Unfortunately, Sikes considers Red her “property” and doesn’t take too kindly to even the notion of Twist making his moves on Red.
The group needs to work together to steal a valuable painting from a corrupt art dealer in order to appease Sikes. It seems almost impossible, but this group of misfits have a lot of “skills” that they might be able to make it work.
To find out if they succeed, rent or go see Twist. Look for it at a theater near you, On Demand or digital.
I review a lot of movies each month. Often the movies are “OK,” and there are some duds here and there too. Every now and then I come across a movie that is outstanding. Twist is one of those movies. I absolutely LOVED this movie!
Most movies I review I’ll watch again if I happened to see it on a premium channel (HBO, Showtime, Cinemax…). Others I need to add to our movie library. Twist is one of those movies that I need to add to my family’s movie collection because I can easily see myself watching it over and over again.
This film has it all – a great story line, action, thrills and comedy.
Rafferty Law did an outstanding job as the title role, Oliver Twist. He looks a lot like his dad, Jude Law, too. The boy can move too! A vast majority of the film is spent on thrilling jumps and flips over and across buildings. I’m pretty sure most of the stunts were done by him (at least it looked like him). I don’t think I could even stand upright on top of a high building, let along jump between buildings, doing flips, and practically running up the side of a wall. There are some wild stunts in this movie!
The other actors did an amazing job too. Headey was so UNlikeable in this movie (she was meant to be – she’s a bad guy in this film).
The “gang” – Red, Dodge and Batesy are all very likeable characters. Even the Police who are constantly after Twist are likeable.
If you are looking for a movie to watch this weekend, definetly check out Twist. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. This is an awesome film.
