Now available on all platforms is the sequel to the highly successful movie franchise, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It’s appropriately titled My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3.
The film brings back many familiar faces, Nia Vardalos, John Corbett, Andrea Martin, Elena Kampouris, Lainie Kazan, Louis Mandylor, Gia Carides, and Maria Vacratsis. There are also plenty of new faces in this film.
Years have passed and the head of the Portokalos family, Gus Portokalos, has passed away. He leaves behind his wife Maria who is not in the best of health. It’s not specifically said (unless I missed it), but she appears to be suffering from dementia. She only seems to be “with it” from time to time. Other times she’s in “another world” for lack of a better description.
Toula’s father’s dying wish was to have his journal brought to Greece and given to his best friends. Since they hare having a reunion in the village where her father grew up, now seems like the best time to fly over and hand the journal over to his friends.
Toula, her husband Ian, their daughter Paris, Toula’s brother Nick, Aunt Voula and Aunt Theia all plan on making the trip.
Toula is very saddened to find out that not only has her father’s best friends moved away from the village they grew up in, but there are hardly any people left. The mayor of the village had hoped having a reunion would bring people back and return the village to it’s former glory.
There are a lot of ups and downs during their visit. Toula also learns a shocking secret her father never told anyone about.
Will Toula complete her father’s dying wish of giving the journal to his best friends? Will the village be restored to the way it was when Gus lived there? Will the secret bring the family together, or tear them apart? To find out, check out My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3. Look for it on all platforms – digital, Blu-ray, DVD and Ultra 4K.
I have seen all three films. Nothing will ever compare to the first film in the franchise. That one is certainly a classic. It was my mother-in-law’s favorite movie of ALL TIME (no kidding!). She loved the original film so much that she watched it all the time.
I really wanted to see this film, not only because I wanted to see what came next for the Portokalos family, but also because I knew it was filmed in Greece. Greece in on my “Bucket List.” I want to go there SO BADLY. It looks absolutely heavenly there. Plus I love the country’s history too.
Over all I liked the story line. The only part of the story I wasn’t overly keen about is how the mother is portrayed in the film. I would have rather the film makers make her unable to travel for health reasons (physical) rather than her deteriorating brain health. It was so sad to see her that way, especially because she’s such a funny lady.
I love that the film brought back all original cast members. The film would not have been the same if they re-casted any of the parts. Let’s face it, there is only one Aunt Voula, and no one could ever play her better than Andrea Martin.
There is brief nudity in this film (a naked butt). I was actually rather surprised by that. I won’t tell you whose butt you’ll see, but it happens at the start of the film.
The acting was wonderful, as you can expect. Since the film features almost an entire cast of returning characters. you wouldn’t expect anything less. As for the new characters, I think they did well along side the more seasoned My Big Fat Greek Wedding actors.
Since there are some new characters added to this film, it makes me wonder if there will be any more films in the franchise, or is this for the My Big Fat Greek Wedding world?
