Are you a Netflix subscriber? My family and I have been subscribing to Netflix long before streaming was an option. We had the one DVD at a time option many years ago. It was a great way to watch newly released films without having to wait around for the DVD to be available at our local movie rental place.
Are there still movie rental places around?
When streaming became an option we quickly changed plans to streaming instead of DVDs. I love the “instant gratification” of streaming.
DVD options are still available with Netflix.
Years ago we used to only watch Netflix when there was a specific movie we wanted to see, or when there was nothing else on television we wanted to watch. This time of year regular television is especially boring because everything is in repeats until the fall when the new shows and new seasons begin. I don’t know about you but I can only watch repeats so much before I get bored.
Thank goodness for Netflix. With their original series (Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things, Hemlock Grove) and movies, plus other popular television series (Friends, Last Man Standing, Grey’s Anatomy, Glee) and films, there is an endless supply of things to watch, available to you 24/7. That’s good for people like me who have a hard time sleeping at night and prefer not to watch infomercials all night long.
We have Netflix on two televisions in our home. One our kids use and the other if for our entire family, and me and my husband. We set it up this way so that our “binge watching” doesn’t interfere with the rest of the family. Take for example our daughter. If she doesn’t have work or school (but her friend are working or at school) she’ll stay home and binge watch her favorite television shows on Netflix. She’s seen every episode of One Tree Hill a dozen times (at least!). She used to watch Degrassi and Glee too. Now she’s into other series like Grey’s Anatomy, Arrested Development and The Office (she just turned 20 so these shows are OK for her to watch).
I prefer not to watch those shows (they are no my “cup of tea”) so I like having a television to myself so I can chill on the couch and binge watch my favorite shows and movies when I am off from work and don’t have anything pressing to do.
My husband and I tend to binge watch in the evening after dinner. By that time of day we are done with work and stuff around the home so all we want to do is sit down and enjoy some quality entertainment.
Did you know…
34% of Netflix viewers choose to start their day with the cheesy jokes of Fuller House as the sun rises. And while school may be out at night, learning is at an all-time high on Netflix with documentaries being watched 24% more often after midnight.
I have to agree with the documentaries. I tend to watch them late at night myself. I LOVE documentaries. I think they are a great way to learn about important things. My husband on the other hand find them boring. If there is a documentary I want to watch I’ll wait until he’s gone to be to watch it. I also appreciate the quietness of late at night so that I am not distracted from what I am watching.
My husband will watch Planet Earth. He likes that documentary series. Netflix has eleven episodes in that documentary series.
I tend not to watch Netflix during the day (unless I’m off from work) because I know me and I know that I’ll get caught up in something and not be able to stop watching. Even a movie. I would hate to have to pause it to watch later, or not be able to move on to the next episode. For me, watching Netflix during the work week is not a good idea. That is why I stick with watching it in the evening (or late at night) when I have the time to devote to watching it and not having to be forced to stop watching. I tend to binge watch… a lot.
Our daughter watches Netflix morning, noon and night depending on her work/school schedule and social life. She doesn’t have a preferred time of day.
Our son only watches certain shows (he’s not much of a TV or movie watcher for some odd reason).
My husband watches Netflix mostly in the evening, but he will turn it on in the afternoon on the weekends. I don’t think any of us (except our daughter) watches Netflix in the morning.

When it comes to watching Netflix, what is your viewing schedule like? Do you have a special time of day that you prefer to check out Netflix?
What are your favorite things to watch on Netflix? What are your favorite series to “binge watch”?
