New 80 Calorie Cereal from Fiber One (Giveaway)

Have you seen the commercials on television for the new Fiber One cereal that only has 80 calories per serving? I see it on TV a lot.

It’s true! Fiber One does have a cereal that is only 80 calories per serving. People might think that an 80 calorie cereal is not that big of a deal, but if you compare it to other cereals you’d see that there is a big difference. For the fun of it I went through my pantry to check the calorie count for the cereals we have and I found that most were between 100 – 110 per serving. One “healthy” cereal we had in the pantry (I won’t mention the brand name) is a whopping 180 calories per serving! WOW! I need to remind myself NOT to buy that one anymore.

Saving 20-30 calories per serving might not sound like much, but if you look at it from a weekly or monthly standpoint you’ll see that in the course of a week (assuming cereal is your typical breakfast food) you’ll save 100 – 150 calories per week, or 400 – 600 calories per month. WOW! That teeny, tiny 20 – 30 calories per serving really does add up.

The new Fiber One 80 Calories cereal has 40% of the daily value of fiber per serving. As you know fiber is important in a healthy diet. It helps to keep your “system” in check and it also helps you to feel fuller and satisfied longer. 

We tried the product at home and we got mixed reviews. My husband wouldn’t try it. He’s very picky. There are only 4 cereals he will eat and they are all considered “kiddie” cereals. Sigh…

My daughter did not like it at all. She took a spoonful and spit it out once she started to chew it.


My son ate a bowl of the new Fiber One 80 Calorie cereal. When I asked him how it tasted he shrugged his shoulders and said it was “alright”. Ah… that is my boy. A man of few words. Ha Ha.

As for my opinion. I do like the over all taste of the cereal. It has a sweet taste, but not overly sweet like a “kiddie” cereal. I wasn’t really fond of the taste after I started to chew on it. It has a very grainy taste and texture once you start to chew on it. It was “OK” but I don’t think this will be my #1 “go-to” cereal.

I like the Fiber One brand and I buy their products often (I love their bars!). This cereal just happens not to be my favorite. However you should take into account this is just one person’s opinion. My son ate it and has had another bowl (to my knowledge anyway). Like my mom used to always say, “One man’s meat is another man’s poison”, meaning just because someone loves something doesn’t mean that others will, and vice versa. Just because it’s not my personal favorite doesn’t mean that someone else is not going to love it.

  8. Everyone should eat more fiber, we don’t seem to get enough. Regular fiber one is good in yogurt. Diabetics need more fiber to help regulate their blood sugars.

    Right when you buy something from the grocery store, even if its low calorie or healthy..
    Put equal serving sizes into small ziploc snack bags and put them in your pantry in a fun basket.

    I will plow throught a box of crackers if I grab the whole box because i am “mindlessly” eating it.

    When you separate them right when you buy them, there is less wiggle room for you to overeat.
