Can you believe Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away? It seems like it was summer just yesterday.
I have reviews coming soon in regards to delightful Christmas books, but I wanted to let readers know about some other new holiday and seasonal books from Simon and Schuster worth checking out. They would be great to read with your child/grandchild this time of year. A couple of them are geared more towards Christmas, but that’s okay. After all, you can’t walk into a store right now without seeing Christmas decorations and supplies. When kids see them it gets them excited for Christmas morning and a visit from Santa.
JUMP IN THE LEAF PILE
Celebrate the fall season with this adorable board book filled with sliding tab surprises that gives little fingers a tactile experience!
This is an adorable shaped book that gets children excited about raking up a pile of leaves to jump into and play with. I remember doing that when I was a child. I had so much fun doing that, although my father wasn’t too happy about having to re-rake again (ha ha).
This book helps children identify colors too.
There are pieces that slide out from the book of colorful leaves (I’m sorry I forgot to take a photo of that).
NO THANKS, SAID TURKEY
Gobble up this hilarious board book bursting with holiday charm as Turkey turns down dinner invitations on Thanksgiving Day.
The last individual you would expect who’d WANT to come to Thanksgiving dinner is a turkey. Turkey’s friends try so hard to invite him to dinner, but turkey is always quick to turn their invitations down.
This is a funny book filled with great illustrations that help bring this story to life.
I Worked Hard on That
A spider sets out to make the most perfect, awe-inspiring web only to have her artistic efforts destroyed again and again in this delightful picture book about the creative process and perseverance.
I think many people can relate to the spider in this book (Kiara). She works very hard to create magnificent spider webs, only to have someone or something destroy them. She’s getting frustrated. I think similar things have happened to many people too (working hard on something only to have something mess it up).
Kiara doesn’t give up, and with the help of a new friend, she might just make the best spider web ever.
ALL BY MY ELF
Little ones help prepare their homes for Santa’s arrival in this sweet and festive board book featuring an interactive element on every page, from glitter to felt!
My kids LOVED these types of books when they were little. We had one with animal “fur” that my son couldn’t put down and took with him every where we went. It was one of his favorite books (I still have it too).
Each page in this sweet board book features some kind of texture that your child/grandchild can feel and experience, such as crinkly bow to a fuzzy holiday stocking.
RELISH THE SEASON
A loveable hot dog named Weenie gets ready for Christmas in this laugh-out-loud festive board book sure to be a holiday wiener!
This is a funny book featuring Weenie enjoying all the fun things to do this holiday season. As you can see, the illustrations are very charming. Kids will love this book.
I am a firm believer that children should experience books at a very young age in order to encourage them to have a love for reading. It saddens me when I ask the kids I work with (currently ages 4-8) what their favorite books are and all but ONE child tell me that they don’t like to read. THEY DON’T LIKE TO READ? That is crazy! It’s so very sad too because they are missing out on the wonderful world of books and all that they bring to life.
I hope you will consider these books for your child/grandchild. Read to them. Build a library of books at home that they can read from too.
I linked to the books on the Simon and Schuster website. You can purchase them on their site, but they are also available from other retailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
