I suffer from Carpal Tunnel. It’s mostly in my right hand and wrist, although my left hand/wrist has a milder case of it. Most days I am OK, but there are some days I’m in total pain. I developed it from spending too much time on the computer (make note of that – you don’t want to develop Carpal Tunnel – it’s no fun).
There are some day I find it hard to do things like hold a pen or pencil and opening jars and bottles. Even using a can opener (the kind you have to turn the handle around and around) can be a problem.
I miss having an automatic can opener – the kind that you keep on your counter and you insert the top of the can, push down the handle and it spins the can around and cuts the lid open. We used to have one, but do to very limited counter top space we had to replace it with a hand-held one.
The hand-held one that we have works great. I have no issues with it at all, but there are day it hurts my hand to crank the handle.
TouCan to the rescue!
Have you seen, or even heard or, TouCan before? TouCan is an automatic can opener that is the size of a hand-held can opener, but has the same power as an automatic can opener. It’s the best of both worlds. I have the ease of an automatic can opener that I can tuck away inside the drawer when not in use, so it doesn’t take up counter space.
This brief video will show you what TouCan can do.
Please disregard the ordering information. The video was uploaded in February of this year. I’m not sure if the ordering information is the same or not.
Toucan is super easy to use. It also adjusts it’s self to fit any size can, larger or small.
Simply place the TouCan opener on top of the can you wish to open (make sure the cutting part is near an edge), then press the button. That’s it! That is all you have to do. Toucan does the rest.
It does seem to go around the can slowly (I could probably use the hand-held can opener and open it quicker) but I don’t really mind. While it’s opening a can I am usually doing something else to prep for the meal.
Once your lid is cut off, take the TouCan to you garbage can and flick the lid into the garbage. You don’t even have to worry about getting your hands messy or ruining your manicure.
A nice bonus feature about TouCan is that it comes with a built in bottle opener. I haven’t used it yet, but it’s handy to have just in case.
From the infomercial (above) it says that the blade and be removed to properly wash and sanitize it. We have tried (both my husband and myself) to remove it but we cannot figure out how it comes off. For now I just wipe it clean with a damp paper towel and a little dish soap.
The TouCan retails for $19.99 and is available at www.BuyTouCan.com/and major retailers nationwide including Bed Bath & Beyond. Target and CVS.
Have you tried TouCan? If so, what do you think about it?
