This time of year, it’s not uncommon to gift that special person in your life a piece of jewelry.
I am always thrilled when my husband gives me a piece of jewelry as a gift, but I’m not much of a jewelry person. All the jewelry I wear has sentimental value to me. I am also not one to wear fancy jewelry. I work with little kids, so the simpler the better. The last thing I want is to lose something of great value, or have it accidentally broken or destroyed.
I wear a few pieces that belonged to my mom (my paternal grandmother who raised me). I also have a beautiful cocktail ring that belonged to my great-great aunt and a locket that belonged to another great-great aunt. Inside that locket is a picture of my great-great aunt and her husband (my great-great uncle). One day I’ll send it back to Wales to give to her great-great granddaughter. As much as I adored my great-great aunt, that lovely little photo locket belongs with her.
I love photo lockets. I like the idea of carrying a photo of a special person in your life so close to your heart, and on your person. It’s like taking a little part of them with you where ever you go.
I have a few photo lockets. A couple of them have images of my husband and/or my children inside. I also have one with a photo of my brother John, and my cousin John. Both died tragically, and both meant the world to me.
I had the opportunity to create a new locket, compliments of Pictures on Gold. Photos on Gold carries a wide variety of jewelry, including a lovely assortment of photo jewelry, fingerprint jewelry and name jewelry.
Creating a photo locket is SO EASY! I’m “technologically challenged” at times, and “I” can create a beautiful photo locket in a matter of minutes. The hardest part is deciding on what kind of locket you want, as well as what photo(s) you want to use.
The most recently photo locket I created was a Built Your Own Sterling Silver 2-Picture Heart Locket. I prefer silver over gold. I think it matches better with my skin tone and my wardrobe.
The first step you need to do is decide on how you want the front of the locket to look. Do you want it plain, do you want clipart on it, a monogram or text? I opted for a butterfly. I love butterflies and I thought the one I chose is really cute.
There are dozens of different clipart you can choose from, from animals to love symbols, and from sports to holidays. There is a piece of clipart to suit your needs.
After you decide on how you want the front of your locket to look, it’s time to work on the inside left and inside right of the locket. All you need to do is upload the photo(s) you want to use (one for each side).
You have the ability to edit your images any way you want. You can zoom in and out, move left, right, up or down.
Don’t worry if you don’t think it looks exactly right. The experts at Pictures on Gold will make sure it looks as good as it can.
According to the brand;
- If when uploading your photo, your photo doesn’t fit perfectly inside the locket and you see white space, don’t be concerned as we will automatically fill in.
- If your photo has people in it that are spaced apart, our digital artists will enhance the photo to bring them closer together.
- Color Laser or Laser- we remove the background of the photograph. Let us know in the “Special Instructions” Box (Last Step) if you’d like the background kept in.
Inside my locket I upload a photo of my children on one side, and me and my husband on the other side.
Once you have decided on the placement of your image(s), it’s time to design the back of the locket. You have your choice of text or a monogram. I chose the text “Family Forever.”
This is how my locket looked when I designed it.
You also have the option of the style of chain, and length of chain you want for your necklace. Most chain styles are available from 16″ – 24″ (except the cord option). Depending on the length and style, there is an additional fee. You can also choose just to purchase the locket (no chain). This is a good option for those who have plenty of chains that would work with the locket.
The necklace arrived quickly. When it arrives, it’s already ready for gift giving. It comes in a cute little black box with a ribbon.
Even though I hang up my necklaces to keep them from getting tangled, I keep these little boxes. They are a great way to store smaller pieces of jewelry like rings and earrings.
Inside the box you’ll find the locket you created lying on a bed of “velvet.”
The images you put inside the locket are laser imprinted, they are not paper photos like the old style lockets contained. Pictures on Gold’s Color Laser or Laser is 100% Waterproof & Scratchproof and is guaranteed for a lifetime.
Here is the inside of the locket. I COULD NOT get a clear enough photo on my phone. The colors look washed out. That is not the case at all. In no matter how I took the photo, there was a bit of a glare.
This locket looks so much nicer in person!
On the back of my locket I had it inscribed “Family Forever.” Inside is my little family – my husband and our two children, as well as myself. Nothing can change that. We are a family and we will always be a family.
There are a variety of chains to choose from, but I used the “box” chain in an 18″ length. I should have used a longer length. I have a chubby neck.
If a photo locket is not your style, Pictures on Gold has so many other wonderful options to choose from. Here are just a few examples.
