If you have been reading She Scribes for a while you probably know that I am a huge fan of Korean (K-Beauty) products. I love the Korean approach to skincare. They focus on clean, natural ingredients and gentle formulas that deliver noticeable results. Often you have to follow multiple steps but I honestly don’t mind because it’s well worth a little extra steps in my skincare routine if I am seeing noticeable results.
Recently I was introduced to Japanese (J-Beauty) products and now I am now a fan of their products too.
J-Beauty products skip the multi step process of it’s geographic neighbor. They have more of a “slow beauty” approach that delivers the same phenomenal results.
I received some products from Rei Cosmetics to review. Rei Cosmetics is a U.S. based, women owned online retailer that specializes in authentic Japanese beauty products to consumer.
Rei Cosmetics was founded by Nami Soejima and Chiaki Honda. They curate and source a wide array of high-quality skincare, haircare and makeup products directly from Japan. This makes J-Beauty essentials readily available to a global audience.
I received the review the following products.
Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel

I am obsessed with this product! They need to make this is a gallon size container (ha ha).
I’m very light skin. To say I’m pale is an understatement. For that reason I am not a fan of being out in the sun. If I have to go out I always apply skin screen on my face and body. I’m not a fan of sunscreen, most especially on my face. I don’t like the heavy, greasy feeling most sunscreens leave on your skin after application. I also don’t like when it gets into my eyes or mouth. I literally keep mints on hand to get rid of the taste of sunscreen if it gets in my mouth, and eye drops for when it gets into my eyes. Even if I am very careful with the application, sunscreen almost always ends up getting into something.
I also MUST wash my face and body the moment I get home because I cannot tolerate that heavy, greasy feeling.
Now I have Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel. I am in love with this product.
This product is lightweight and non-greasy. I honestly don’t even feel it on my skin. Even when I get home I don’t feel the need to rush into the bathroom to wash my face. I do, only because it’s what I normally do, but it’s not as pressing since I don’t feel the Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel at all.
This product does make a great base for your makeup, but it’s the sunscreen aspect of it that has me totally sold on the product. Since using it I have not experienced any redness or sunburn when I’m out and about in the sun. If I know I’m going to be outside for an extended amount of time (hours) I will add a little more sunscreen on my face, but that is only for added protection when I’m outside for hours. Normal sun exposure (such as running errands, going to/from work and normal every day stuff) you won’t need anything but Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel.
When I think of what mermaid skin would look and feel like I picture something shiny, glossy, a bit colorful and water resistant. You won’t experience any of that when using this product. What you will experience is a lightweight base for your makeup and GREAT every day coverage to product.
On a side note, I don’t use this on my body only because I want the tube to last longer. I do use it on my chest and neck area, depending on the top I am wearing.
Kose Make Keep Mist

Have you ever put your makeup on and it looks perfect, then go out for the day, especially on a hot day, and your makeup sweats off, “melts” or runs? That’s the worse.
I don’t wear a lot of makeup, most especially in the hot summer months. During the summer I usually just wear some face powder, mascara and eyeliner. If I’m going to work or a special night out I will wear a foundation, coverup, eyes shadow, blush, mascara and eyeliner. When I do I use the Kose Make Keep Mist.
When they say this product is lightweight, they are not kidding. This is one of the finest mists I have ever used. Sometimes mists make your face look and feel wet, even leaving droplets of product on your skin. Not this product. It’s so fine that you hardly feel it going on. It’s also quick to absorb. Best of all it doesn’t leave behind any stickiness or weird residue. You barely notice that it’s there, but you will notice at the end of the day when your makeup looks just as good as it did when you walked out the door in the morning.
I like that it doesn’t make your face look shiny either. I’m okay with a healthy glow, but I don’t want my face to look shiny because that often makes your skin look oily. This product doesn’t leave anything behind. It’s like it’s invisible. You can see or feel it but you know it’s doing it’s “job” in the background.
This product also feels good when applying, especially on a hot day. It’s refreshing.
I use this product even on days I only wear some face powder. It still helps to keep it on all day. Even with very little makeup on it still looks as good as it did in the morning.
This is a must have product in your cosmetic bag.

As I already mentioned, I often don’t wear too much makeup. That’s just a personal preference. However, I still like to look my best.
Seeing as how I have such extremely pale skin, I have to be careful with the products that I use.
I like to use blush to give my face a bit of color, but I find that many blushes LOOK like blush on my skin (if that makes any sense). I don’t want to look made up. I mush prefer a more natural look. For this reason I barely wear blush, even though I like to.
This blush looks so natural on my skin. I am incredibly impressed by it. It doesn’t look (or feel) like I’m using blush at all. I just have a natural color on my skin. It looks like it could be my own healthy skin.
I was surprised to see that it comes out with a “wand” rather than brush it on, but that’s fine with me. It allows me more control of where to place the color and how much of it I want to use.
It looks a bit dark in the photo but it’s actually more of a peachy-pink color (at least it is on my skin).
I tried to take a decent selfie to show you how it looks on my skin but it was hard to capture it. I’m not a professional when it comes to selfies only because I don’t like my picture taken to begin with, so when I do take selfies I’m ultra picky about how it looks.
The best way to describe this fabulous product is natural color for your skin.

I have thick, course hair. Sometimes when I am washing my face or putting on make up the little hairs that surround my face (especially my bangs) gets in the way. These clips are a great size because they are small enough to grip those nuisance hairs to get them out of my way while I work on my face.
I’d love to be able to wear these when I’m out and about but they move around too much on MY HAIR (long, thick, course). If you have fine, thin hair, these should stay in place just fine. I can see these adorable clips on a child too. The are so cute!

I like that it’s clear. It makes it easier to locate the exact product you are looking for rather than digging through it to find it.
This is also easy to clean. If you have ever used a cosmetics bag you know how some products can leave marks in or on the bag after frequent use. Since this is made with PVC plastic, it’s easy to clean.
Overall I am extremely impressed by these product. Korean beauty products have met their match. Japanese beauty products are just as amazing. Now I’m a fan of J-Beauty products too, thanks to Rei Cosmetics.
