The wellness world is constantly buzzing about the next “must-have” tonic, but few things have the staying power of traditional Fire Cider. If you’ve been looking into natural ways to support your immune system, you may have come across Roots & Leaves. Their take on this traditional folk remedy is potent, expertly crafted, and. I’ll be completely honest, a bit of a challenge for my particular palate.
The brand was kind enough to send me a bottle to try out for myself.
Here is a look at why this Fire Cider may have earned a spot in my wellness routine, even if I’m still learning to love the flavor.
At its core, Fire Cider is an apple cider vinegar (ACV) infusion. Roots & Leaves takes a base of raw, organic ACV (with the “mother”) and steeps it with a powerhouse of organic “fire” ingredients. We’re talking ginger, turmeric, garlic, onions, habanero peppers, horseradish, and citrus.
It is designed to be a concentrated shot of wellness, combining anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral properties in one spicy bottle.
The ingredient list reads like a “who’s who” of holistic health. Because it’s packed with ginger and turmeric, it’s incredible for digestion and reducing inflammation. The horseradish and peppers help clear out the sinuses, while the garlic and raw ACV work to support a healthy gut microbiome and a resilient immune system. Especially during the colder months, having a bottle of this on hand feels like a necessary insurance policy for your health.

Now, let’s get to the elephant in the room: the taste. I’m going to be 100% transparent – I am not a fan of apple cider vinegar in general. The sharp, fermented tang of ACV is usually enough to make me recoil, and when you add the heat of horseradish and habanero, it is definitely a “wake up your senses” kind of experience, especially because I’m not a fan of hot and spicey things either.
The Fire Cider taste is bold, it is zesty, and it is very much fire. If you love spicy, acidic flavors, you’ll probably think it’s great. If you’re like me and struggle with the intensity of vinegar, taking a straight shot of it can be a bit of a hurdle.
A standard dose is usually about one tablespoon a day for maintenance, or more frequently if you feel like you’re coming down with something.
Even though I’m not a fan of the flavor profile on its own, I refuse to miss out on the health benefits. The way I’ve found to ensure I get my daily dose is by getting creative:
- The Salad Dressing Hack: This is my favorite method. I whisk a tablespoon of the Roots & Leaves Fire Cider with some high-quality olive oil, a little honey, and some dried herbs. The oil and honey mellow out the “bite,” making it a delicious, zesty vinaigrette.
- The Wellness Tea: Adding a splash to warm water with plenty of lemon and raw honey makes it much more palatable and soothing for the throat.
Despite my personal battle with the taste of ACV, the quality of this product is undeniable. You can tell that Roots & Leaves prioritizes small-batch integrity and clean, organic ingredients. It feels like something made in a kitchen, not a massive factory.
If you’re looking to level up your supplement game, I highly encourage you to visit them online. Beyond their Fire Cider, they have an incredible range of elderberry syrups, herbal teas, and other apothecary-style goods that are much gentler on the palate but just as effective.
Be sure to check out the brand on Facebook and Instagram too. Their links are found on the bottom of their website.
Whether you take it as a straight shot or hide it in your salad dressing like I do, your immune system will definitely thank you for it.
