I am not one to happen upon great deals when I go shopping. I hear about others who luck out and find amazing deals where they get a ton of stuff for practically nothing. I’m never that lucky. Until today!
I picked my daughter up from a sleep over this afternoon. She asked me if we could stop by Walgreens to pick up a few things. She’s a teen and she wanted to spend her dog walking money on a few things. I was OK with that because I needed to pick up some more face cleanser and eye liner.
I was shopping around, comparing prices and found a good deal on a huge tub of Noxzema for $5 and change. I grew up using Noxzema so I know its a great product.
As I was walking around some more I notcied some Olay products displayed on one of the shelves. They were new products and looked interesting so I went over to check them out. The box they products were displayed in read “3 for $12.00”. I thought to myself “WOW! Great deal”. So I grabbed three of them and put them in our basket.
My daughter is 13 and still doesn’t know much about budgeting and finances. I took her to the price checker to show her how to use it and how to figure out how much she had in her basket. She had two products that were buy one get one at 50% off so I was explaining to her that she would be charged the more expensive product and the cheaper one would be at 50% off.
While I was there I ran the Olay products through the scanner just because. They came up as $8 each (give or take). No way! The display said 3 for $12. They should be $4 each. There was no way I was going to buy them and pay $24.00. I don’t have that kind of money.
I went to go and put them back in the display but then I thought about how I was setting a bad example for my daughter. So I explained to my daughter how I was going to question the price difference with the lady at the cash register.
I am so glad I did!
Turns out that they ARE 3 for $12.00. They were just ringing up wrong. There was also an additional $3.00 off, which I am not 100% sure why. The cashier also commented that the new Olay products were really nice and how she’s been using them.
Three Olay facial products for $9.00 was too good to pass up so I went over and grabbed three more. When I checked out I had six Olay products (cleansers and exfoliates from their new product line). For some odd reason I got an ADDITIONAL $1.50 off each set of 3 so my total for all six products came to $15.00! That means I purchased $48.00 in Olay products and paid only $15.00.
WOW!!!
I also found a few other goodies on sale or clearance, including Tropicana sunscreen. I know it’s only March but we go through A LOT of sunscreen throughout the year so we try and stock up as much as we can. The price was too good to pass up. It was like getting one for free. Sunscreen is expensive.
I am so happy about my huge savings SCORE! Now if only things like that can happen to me more often.
On a side note my daughter got a great lesson today on how to inquire about prices if you are unsure of them. 🙂

*This is a personal post. Just because I mentioned two companies doesn’t mean I was asked to do so. 🙂

I love those two or threefers. I’m always comparing prices and sizes to get the best deal. Now if I could learn how to use coupons right I might be able to save even more.

Sweet!! Great opportunity to teach your daughter life lessons. I still remember shopping with Dad eons ago and he explaining to me how to go by “unit price” since sometimes (but not always) a larger container may be a better value overall.

Great deal! I hope your daughter understands what you showed her, it will be a lesson well learned. Have a Great Day.

Good job. I always question when a sale does not ring up correctly. Sometimes it is a register problem. I hate to miss out on a great deal!

I had to go to Walgreens today so I thought I’d check out the Olay deals. We didn’t have the same one 🙁 Ours was buy 1, get 1 half off. Ah well- didn’t hurt to check!

Score! I’m going to have to check out our Walgreens to see if they have the same deal.

I love when that happens. I use to never say anything but now I do.
