Last year our son (who was 24 at the time) dropped a bombshell on us – he rented an apartment in Texas (we live in New York). He’s never been to Texas, doesn’t know anyone who lives there, and didn’t even have a job. He just impulsively rented an apartment (a very nice one I might add). When asked why he would do such a thing, he said he always wanted to go to Texas, and he’s ready to “leave the nest.”
Once we came to grips with the fact he was going to move to Texas, we started shopping for things he would need for is apartment, to help him with his move. We bought him pots and pans, towels, dishes… many things.
Other things I bought him were gifts that were reminders that he has people who love him in New York, and that New York is where his story began. I did find several nice gifts on one website, including ornaments for his tree. I wanted our son to remember where he comes from.
Prior to his move, our son decided not to make the move. He gave it more thought, realized he was being impulsive, and he knew he didn’t want to be THAT far away from his family (not yet any way). Thankfully the apartment complex let him out of the lease without a penalty. They told him he was welcome to move there any time he wants in the future. Hopefully not. As his mom, I told him he has to live within a three hour driving distance from me and his dad (my husband).
I’m a proud New Yorker. I was born, raised and have lived my entire life in New York. One day my husband and I plan on moving out of state (we’re thinking Maine), but that is not for many years from now. No matter where I live, I’ll always be a New Yorker in my heart.
If you have great pride in your state, you can show off that pride with quality, comfortable clothing from the brand Wear Your Roots.
Started by two childhood friends in their Hometown in Montana. Wear Your Roots (WYR) Clothing was built for those who love the place they call home. Providing a wide variety of high quality products for individuals to show love for their State.
Wear Your Roots not only offers premium clothing to show off your state pride, they also have other fun designs to choose from including college football, Sasquatch, Smokey the Bear and so much more.
Here are a few examples of clothing and accessories from Wear Your Roots.
Sweatshirts, tee shirts, tank tops, toddler and baby wear, backpacks, drinkware… Wear Your Roots has so many products to choose from. All states are available for each item too.
The Wear Your Roots products feature a silhouette of each state, with roots (similar to tree roots) underneath the state. Anyone who sees you wearing a Wear Your Roots article of clothing will know what state you hail from, and show the world that you’ll always have “roots” in that state.
If showing off state pride is not your thing, Wear Your Roots has other fun clothing and accessories. My favorite is their Smokey Bear collection.
Wear Your Roots was kind enough to send me some pieces from their Smokey Bear collection.
I remember seeing the advertisement for Smokey Bear, Woodsy the Owl and other commercials about protecting our forests. It’s sad that I don’t see them that much anymore.
I love animals, so I have always been drawn to these advertisements. I want to protect the animals of the forest too. Seeing all the damage from all the forest fires that have occurred from coast to coast, I would think that EVERYONE would want to protect the forests from fire.
I was sent to review a Smokey Bear Babies hoodie and a Woodsy the Owl t-shirt.
I really wanted the Smokey Bear Babies designs because I think the illustrations of forest babies is so cute.
My photo does not do the design justice. It’s bright and colorful like shown in the professional photo from the Wear Your Roots website.
This super comfy and very warm hoodie features a pouch in the front that you can put your hands in the keep them warm.
I was surprised at how soft and comfortable this hoodie is. It has that “well worn” feel to it, meaning it feels like something I have worn and loved for a long time. It’s not “stiff” or anything like that.
I’d say it’s true to size, but I think the next size up would have been more comfortable for me. I like my clothing to be a bit more baggy.
I also received the brand’s Woodsy the Owl t-shirt to review.
Again, my photos does NOT do the shirt justice.
This shirt has the same well loved, well worn, soft feel to it. The design INTENTIONALLY looks worn. It’s suppose to have that classic, retro look to it. It’s suppose to look like you’ve had this shirt for a long time. My husband has many shirts with this same “worn” look to them.
This shirt is so comfy! I love this and I plan on wearing it often. It’s going to be well loved and well worn by me, that is for sure.
I love Woodsy too!
This shirt is also true to size. I think I would have sized up to make it more loose. I prefer loose clothing to true to size clothing. That is just me.
All Forest Service products are officially licensed with the USDA Forest Service.
I’m not sure if any of these products can ship in time for Christmas, but you can check when you place an order. Perhaps rush shipping is available.
