As I sit here and my computer and glance up at my badge from the Sorcerer’s Apprentice world premiere red carpet event, I cannot help but think that it was almost a week ago. To be honest with you it feels like yesterday. I still feel like pinching myself just to make sure I’m not dreaming any of it. Me? At a red carpet event, only a mere 2′ from Nicolas Cage on the red carpet? It just doesn’t seem real. Even my kids still talk about it. None of their friends believe them that they were there. I have to print out pictures for them to show their friends as “proof”. LOL!
If you go to the Internet Movie Data Base (http://www.imdb.com/) you can find photos from the premiere I was at. Or you can CLICK HERE to go directly to the Sorcerer’s Apprentice Page. There are some great photos from the event.
The movie opens nation wide on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Even though I have seen it already I am looking forward to seeing it again. My husband already said he knows he’s getting me a copy of the movie for our Anniversary or Christmas, depending on when it’s released on DVD. Not unless I pick it up sooner. I think the moment I know it’s released I’ll purchase a copy.
I am going to have to control myself with the movie review. I want so badly to tell you every little detail but I don’t want to give the whole movie plot away. I want you to be just as excited as I was to see the movie.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice has a lot of action right from the start. We quickly learn that the infamous Sorcerer, Merlin, had three apprentices – Balthazar (Nicolas Cage), Horvath (Alfred Molina) and the beautiful Veronica (Monica Bellucci).

From the start of the movie you are thrusted into the action and a battle sequence between Merlin and the evil Sorceress Morgana. Tragically Morgana succeeds in destroying Merlin. Balthazar and Veronica try their best to defeat the evil Morgana, but she was too powerful for the apprentice Sorcerers to handle. In order to save Balthazar’s life, Veronica gives up her own life and is destined to spend an eternity locked up inside a wooden nesting doll along side Morgana.
Flash forward to the year 2000. The audience meets Dave (Jay Baruchel). He was an average boy with a HUGE crush on his classmate Becky (Teresa Palmer). Actors Jake Cherry and Peyton List play young Dave and Becky.
While on a class field trip Dave passes Becky a note, curious to see if she wanted to be his girlfriend or a just a friend. Before he can read her response the note is blown away. Dave runs off after the note and soon finds himself in a creepy shop owned by Balthazar. Balthazar is immediately taken with Dave, as if he knows that there is something very special about him.
Before Balthazar can find out more about Dave a freak accident releases Balthazar’s former friend and current enemy, Horvath, who has been trapped inside an urn for several hundred year. Horvath also has a special interest in Dave.
In effort to escape both Balthazar and Horvath Dave meets up with his classmates and disappears.
Fast forward to 2010. Dave is now a major science nerd attending college in NYC and he is still has feelings for Becky who happens to attend the same college.

I don’t want to give away too much details but I will say that Dave and Balthazar’s paths cross again, except this time Balthazar can’t let Dave disappear like before. Balthazar needs Dave’s assistance to help him fight off Horvath who is planning on releasing Morgana from her prison so that they can reap havoc on Earth and destroy the human race. There is a good reason why Dave is very special to Balthazar, much more then Dave can comprehend.
In order to help Balthazar to defeat Horvath before he can release Morgana, Dave must learn how to be a Sorcerer. The only way to learn is to become Balthazar’s apprentice, or rather a Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
Can geeky Dave learn to be a Sorcerer like Balthazar? Why is Dave so important to Baltazar? Will Dave win the affection of his beloved Becky? Will Balthazar and Dave successfully defeat Horvath before he can release Morgana and destroy the world? In order to find out the answers you’ll just have to go and see the Sorcerer’s Apprentice. You can find out local theaters and show times on Yahoo movies or Fandango.
My whole family L♥VED the Sorcerer’s Apprentice. It appealed to both men and women, boys and girls, teens and adolescents. It’s rated PG because of the action sequences. There wasn’t any nudity or foul language (this is after all a Disney movie). The movie’s run time is about two hours. That might seem like a long time for some people, but trust me, you are so thoroughly entertained with the non-stop action that you won’t even realize that move is that long. I didn’t notice any kids getting fidgety in the theater. Everyone was too into the action on the screen.

This movie has it all, action, excitement, romance, the most amazing special effects and it’s very funny. Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel have amazing on screen chemistry. They worked so well together just like Laurel & Hardy and Abbott & Costello. The comedic timing and one liners were excellent.
Alfred Molina was PERFECT for the part of Horvath. He played an excellent villain, someone you truly wanted to hate. I actually found him to be very creepy too! If I saw him walking down the street dressed like Horvath I would certainly cross the street and walk on the other side.
I can’t even begin to tell you about the special effects. WOW! My favorite was the scene in China Town with the dragon. That had me on the edge of my seat! The car chase scene and the Charging Bull from Wall Street were also pretty amazing.
I love that the movie was based in New York City. After the movie when we walked around the city I imagined what it would be like to see Nicolas Cage and Horvath speeding by in their frantic car chase.

Before anyone thinks that I am raving about the movie because I was at the world premiere, I can tell you with all honesty that is NOT the case. I truly L♥VED this movie! I will be the first person to say that Nicolas Cage has been in some pretty lousy movies before (Vampire’s Kiss, Knowing, The Wickerman), but he’s also been in some huge blockbusters (National Treasure, World Trade Center, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin) and of course my personal favorites like Family Man, Valley Girl (YES! I liked this movie!), Face Off and Con Air. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is destined to be another Nicolas Cage blockbuster hit.
With talent like Nicolas Cage, Jon Turteltaub (While You Were Sleeping, National Treasure, Cool Runnings) directing and Jerry Bruckheimer (CSI, National Treasure, Pearl Harbor, Remember the Titans) producing you know you have a sure fire hit on your hands.
My whole family is giving The Sorcerer’s Apprentice 5 Stars, and eight “thumbs up” (two from each of us).

Now to find a poster. My kids want a poster for their room to remember the movie by. Sheesh! Have you seen how expensive posters are these days? I remember when they used to be $5.00. LOL! It would be awesome to get an autographed poster. Hello Ebay?

This is so awesome Kimberly! I totally had to skip through your post though because I didn't want to know anything! LOL I only wanted to know if you liked it. I'm going to see it on Wednesday, it's my anniversary. I'm so excited!

Great review, Kimberly!
Nicolas Cage was always dreamy. I absolutely love "Family Man"…it's one of the best holiday movies. For me, Nicolas Cage was at his hottest in "Moonstruck".
Alfred Molina plays villains very well. I remember seeing him in "Not Without My Daughter" with Sally Field and he was terrifying.
I'm a movie buff…thanks so much for the review!
