The holidays are just about over. We just have New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day to contend with.
The holidays can be very stressful for a lot of people. Between cooking, baking, entertaining, shopping, wrapping… it can be overwhelming at times. With all the craziness that goes on, many of us (myself included) would love to take some time to ourselves to rest and unwind. A trip to a spa would sure be nice. Sadly, not many people are able to afford such a luxury as a day at the spa.
When I feel the need to unwind and relax, I am fortunate to have a sauna available to me at our condo complex’s club house. I have used it here and there over the years. I’d use it more often, but I don’t like sitting in the sauna with total strangers (especially people of the opposite sex). I find it uncomfortable.
What if you could bring a luxurious sauna and spa treatment to your own home? I’m not talking about building a sauna room in your home (that would be too expensive), but I do have a viable option. It’s called the Higher Dose Sauna Blanket. Yes, you read that correctly – a sauna blanket.
Perfect for traveling or at-home use, the Higher Dose Sauna Blanket detoxify the body, delivers fresh nutrients to muscles and boosts metabolic rate—so you burn calories like you’re working out, without working out. As you relax into the soothing, yet stimulating heat, infrared also triggers your brain’s happiness chemicals. The result? A healthy, rejuvenating experience that leaves you feeling euphoric.
The Higher Dose Sauna Blanket is a special “blanket” that you lie inside (kind of like a human burrito, or similar to a sleeping bag) that uses infrared technology to heat your skin/body. Just like with a traditional sauna, the Higher Dose blanket helps to detoxify harmful toxins from your skin/body, all while making you feel relaxed and refreshed when you are done.
The Sauna Blanket has several unique features. It is low EMF and made with high quality non-toxic materials, such as a medical grade magnetic strip for improved blood circulation. It is constructed with a layer of healing amethyst to deepen the benefits of infrared, a layer of tourmaline to generate negative ions, and a layer of charcoal and clay to amplify the detoxification process.
I was sent a Higher Dose Sauna Blanket to try out for myself.
The box the blanket came in is pretty heavy, but the blanket it’s self is not that bad.
The blanket resembles a body bag (as per my kids). That is not exactly what I was thinking when I first saw the blanket, but after they said that to me I cannot help but think of it as a body bag. I’ve even referred to it as that from time to time (jokingly of course).
There are precautions and steps you need to take before you can use the Higher Dose Sauna Blanket. The most important thing is to CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR first and foremost, especially if you have a skin disease, heart disease or other medical conditions.
You need to rest the blanket on something that is non-flammable, because the blanket heats up. They recommend using yoga mats like the ones from Pureful Yoga or towels. Do not use it on your bed or furniture. If you happen to have a massage table, that would be a great choice, but not many of us have that. I put ours on our living room floor with two yoga mats (going horizontally, with the blanket vertically) and a beach towel on top of the yoga mats. You can put a towel inside of it as well for extra padding.
When you are going to use the Sauna Blanket you need to be dressed from head to toe in breathable, cotton clothing (including socks), that includes long sleeves and long pants. Trust me, you’ll still reap the benefits from the blanket even fully clothed.
I have read that others go “in the buff,” but I wouldn’t dare try that at home. I’d also be afraid of burning myself.
When your blanket is set up, all you need to do is lie down in it and wrap yourself up in it. Then turn on the heat setting that works best for you (1-9, 9 being the highest setting). Then lie there, relax, unwind and let the blanket do all the work.
Otherwise have recommended having water on hand and make sure to drink it. Trust me, do it! I didn’t drink any water at first and I was so thirsty. I think it’s because you SWEAT LIKE CRAZY using this blanket. But you sweat in a good way. The sweat removes the toxins and bad things from your body.
You can use the blanket up to an hour. I recommend starting off at 15 minutes and working your way up to an hour. I mean, you can start off at an hour, but I would suggested working your way up to it.
After you are done using your blanket, be sure to wipe it down and clean it off (all that sweat!) and let it cool down and dry out before folding it up and putting it away.
The brand says that this could be used when traveling. I suppose it can, but I think it’s too bulky to stuff in a suitcase.
I have been using this blanket a few times per week for the past 6+ weeks. This is my take on my experience.
It’s very relaxing. After a long, stressful day I look forward to spending time in the blanket, even if it’s just for a half hour.
I feel like my skin looks better. It’s probably from sweating out all the impurities in my pores.
I have read that this can help with weight loss. I have not seen any significant weigh loss to date, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it doesn’t work for others. There are probably a lot of contributing factors to if you lose weight (and how much).
I find that my body feels better (muscles). My body feels rejuvenated (for lack of a better word).
Even though you feel relaxed when using the blanket (and afterwards), I also feel happier and I have a little more “spring to my step,” so to speak.
I honestly don’t really see much of a “downside” to this product, with the exception of the price (it’s nearly $400). However, if you use a sauna at the gym, or you pay for spa treatments, this would probably pay for it’s self in a few months.
For the record, no one in my family was willing to be photographed as a “human burrito” (LOL). I don’t like my picture taken either, which is why I had to rely on stock photos. Sorry.
Overall, I am pleased with the Higher Dose Sauna Blanket.
