When it comes to exercising, how motivated are you? Are you the type of person who rolls out of bed and into your jogging outfit to take a job before your first cup of coffee in the morning? Or are you more like the majority of people who struggle to get exercise into each day? I’m one of the “strugglers”.
There are a few reasons why people don’t find the time, or lack the energy, to squeeze in some kind of excercise each day. Money should not be one of those factors since there are plenty of ways to exercise for free.
I think one of the biggest factors is motivation – or lack thereof. Some people need an extra incentive to get up and move. I am guilty of that sometimes too. For example, when I take my dog out for his afternoon walk. I know he could walk forever if I let him but sometimes I just don’t have the motivation or desire to walk another few feet, or even another half mile or more. I COULD if I truly wanted to. I’m just lacking the motivation.
Have you heard about Striiv? Striiv is your very own personal trainer that you keep in your pocket, in your purse or on your person.
When you first look at a Striiv unit your first thought would be that it’s a beeper (it resembles one). Stiiv is actually similar to a pedometer, which tracks the number of steps you take each day. But wait… it’s so much MORE then that! Striiv is your very own personal trainer to help you get in shape and stay active.
Striiv does keep track of how many steps you take, but unlike a regular pedometer, Striiv sets daily goals for you to achieve. They start small and then gradually work their way up. If I recall correctly my first challenge was to take 30 steps my first day. Just 30! I think I achieved that goal within minutes.
It’s not only walking. Striiv encourages you to also take the stairs and do other fun challenges to help you burn calories and feel great.
You might be asking yourself ‘What’s in it for me?”. To answer that question – A LOT!
Do you like games? Striiv has it’s own virtually world right on the Striiv unit called My World. By meeting the challenges that Striiv sets out for you, you can earn coins/points to use in My World. If you like games like Sims, Club Penguin, Farmville and similar virtual world games then you’ll love My World. I’m not much of a gamer but I am enjoying planting flowers and plants on my little My World homestead.
The challenges are easy enough to do, and dare I say FUN? One challenge might be to walk 1.5 miles in 20 minutes. Or walk a certain number of stairs in the allotted time frame. The challenges keep you from getting bored with merely walking. Plus it’s a great way to mix up your daily exercise routine.
You can also help provide clean drinking water for a child, save the rainforest or provide a Polio vaccination to a child in need, all at no cost to you. When you complete your daily goals and challenges, Striiv will make donations in honor of your efforts. When you reach 18,000 steps you can provide clean water for a child for an entire day. Or 18,000 steps can help protect a parking spot size piece of the rainforest for an entire year. These are just a few examples.
To make the “dontation” simply plug your Striiv unit into your computer and upload the information to Striiv. It’s that easy!
Striiv also keeps track of your weekly and monthly achievements and even charts things out for you so you can see your progress.
All of this is done on one small, portable Striiv unit.
The Striiv unit is 1.7″ across and 2.75″ long. It has a TOUCH SCREEN display. Just like a tiny iPad. :-). It has a full color display. Even the My World feature works beautifully on this little unit. It also comes with an optional holder that you can snap it into and clip on your belt or pants. Or you can use the optional keychain clip to clip it on your keys. You can also simply tuck it into you pocket or purse.
This is literally a “plug and play” type of device too. After you let it charge for about an hour you are ready to go. There are a few simple things you need to set up on the unit (name, age, date…) but that only took a few minutes to do.
Unlike other fitness devices there are no additional fees associated with Striiv. The only cost to you is the unit it’s self ($99). There are no additional purchases required, or a monthly or yearly fee. Just the one time purchase of the unit. I really like that. There is nothing worst then loving a product only to find out you have to pay a monthly or yearly fee.
Stiiv is available for purchase on Amazon. Amazon reviews give Striiv 4.5 stars, so I am not the only one who loves the Striiv unit.
I have found that Striiv DOES provide me with much needed motivation. Best of all its done privately between me and my Striiv unit. If I fail to reach a goal one day the only person who knows about it is me. It’s also a great feeling when you see that you achieved a goal and get rewarded with a virtual trophy. Believe it or not that does inspire me to do more.
Striiv has offered to give 20 She Scribes readers a special code that will allow them to try out Striiv for two weeks. If you love the unit you can keep it and complete the purchase. If you are not happy with Striiv return it and owe nothing. The code is only good for the first 20 people. The code expires in 24 hours (12:30 PM EST Saturday, March 31, 2012) or when all 20 codes have been claimed.

Striiv has also generously offered to give a lucky reader a Striiv unit too ($99 value). Thank you Striiv!
