NEW Fresh Step with the Power of Febreze

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Fresh Step at Target for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Three of our five cats - (Top) Anakin, (Middle) Velcro, (Bottom) Bella

If you follow my blog on a regular basis you know that we have a “mini-zoo” which includes five (yes – FIVE) cats, a dog who thinks he’s a cat and a Goldfish who fears the fish.

Having a lot of cats has it’s advantages and disadvantages – as it does with any pet.

There are too many advantages to list but they include love, “fuzz therapy,” entertainment (watching them play) and the smile they put on your face when they greet you at the door after a long day at work.

The disadvantages include trying to coordinate vet visits, dealing with picky eaters and the most dreaded thing of all – the litter box.

First and foremost we live on the top floor condo and we have six flights of stairs (three outside, three inside) to have to lug litter up. Thankfully I have a strong husband and teenagers. LOL!

Due to the small space in our home we have just one huge litter box. We clean it out numerous times per day to make sure it’s always clean. Its inconvenient and time consuming, but it’s important for us that our cats have a fresh, clean place to do their “business” 24/7.

Our cat Kitty. She tends to be camera shy.

Odor is also a concern of mine.  The last thing I want is for our home to smell like we have cats. I have walked into other homes with cats and have actually smelled that they have a cat. Most of the time its the litter box that is the dead giveaway.

A few years ago we had our condo on the market. I had neighbors, friends and real estate agents in our home to check and see if they could smell that we had cats. Thankfully they couldn’t smell a thing. I attribute that to litter that controls odor.

We are big fans of the Fresh Step® brand of kitty litter. We use it all the time. We’ve tried other brands – especially if it was on sale and/or had a coupon for it – but we always go right back to Fresh Step® because it’s the brand that works best for us. I like how it clumps and locks in odors.

Fresh Step 1

There is a new Fresh Step® now available at places like Target. It’s the NEW Fresh Step® with the Power of Febreze™.

I use Febreze EVERY DAY around my home. I spray it on the furniture, curtains and bedding. I was thrilled when I learned that Fresh Step® now comes with the power of Febreze. Not only does Febreze help cover up pet odors, it also helps to eliminate them too. That means you won’t smell your cat’s “business” after he uses his/her litter box. Fresh Step® with the power of Febreze will trap and eliminate the odors.

The NEW Fresh Step® with the Power of Febreze™ offers a 10-Day Continuous Odor Control GUARANTEED (for complete terms and conditions, see FreshStep.com/Guarantee).

Another benefit to the NEW Fresh Step® with the Power of Febreze™ is that it has a lower dust formula than the previous formula.

Fresh Step 2

If you have ever poured fresh litter into the litter box you probably know all too well how much dust can come from it. I don’t like how the dust gets all over the place around the littler box. I also don’t want my cat breathing that dust in, most especially our cat Bella with severe asthma.

We picked up a box of the NEW Fresh Step® with the Power of Febreze™ when we visited our local Target recently. I like that most of their varieties now come with the power of Febreze™, including Multi-Cat which is the one we use most frequently.

We picked up the NEW Fresh Step with the Power of Febreze litter at our local Target.

If you have Target’s FREE Cartwheel app you’ll find a special money saving offer for the NEW Fresh Step® with the Power of Febreze™. Through the Cartwheel app you can Save 20% with Cartwheel from February 28, 2016 – March 5, 2016.

If you would like to learn more about how the NEW Fresh Step® with the Power of Febreze™ eliminates odors, visit the brand’s website at www.FreshStep.com. You can also find the brand on social media – Twitter (@FreshStepLitter), Instagram (@FreshStep) and Facebook (FreshStep). The official hashtags are #Unsmellable and #FreshStep.

Have you tried the NEW Fresh Step® with the Power of Febreze™ yet? Fresh Step would love it if you shared photos of your and your furry friend using the NEW Fresh Step® with the Power of Febreze™ in store as well as at home. Don’t forget to tag the brand on social media and use the hashtags too.

Versatile Pet Bed for Cats and Dogs from Pet P.L.A.Y

Sleep 2

I love my pets. They happiness and health is a top priority for me.

With five cats and a dog it goes without saying that we have several pet beds. If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen some funny pictures I posted the other day about our cat Bella and how out of all the cozy places to sleep (pet beds, cat tree, love seat…) she opted to sleep on my daughter’s dresser. Crazy kitty! One photo is seen above and the other below.

Sleep 1

We even have one bed that is so big I think all five cats and our dog can sleep on it. LOL!

Big Bed

A while back I was sent information on a really classy looking pet bed – one that I think would add to a home’s decor. It’s by a company called Pet P.L.A.Y (Pet Lifestyle And You). The pet bed is made out of a reclaimed wine barrel.

Check out the beautiful Wine Barrel Dog & Pet Bed on the Pet P.L.A.Y site.

How beautiful is that bed? I would so love to have a bed like that for my pets.

Pet P.L.A.Y was kind enough to send me one of their other pet beds to review with my pets – their convertible Snuggle Bed.

Sewn with dirt-resistant canvas on one side and luxurious faux fur on the other, this convertible dog bed can be molded into a variety of shapes and uses, conforming to you and your pet’s lifestyle, and offering your pup or kitty a heavenly retreat.

What makes this pet bed different than other pet beds is that it can be used in different ways.

Snuggle Bed

I love the idea of making the bed into different styles.

The bed is reversible too. One side is super soft and plush (I would sleep on it!). The other side is a bit cooler for hotter days. You an reverse the bed and make it into any of the above mentioned shapes.

Our cats LOVE to hide in things. I love how the Snuggle Bed can be turned into a tunnel for our cats to sleep in. We just have to make sure we know a cat is in there so we don’t accidentally step on them. Our dog actually lied down on the Snuggle Bed when it was a tunnel and ended up sleeping on top of our cat Bella.

When we first received the Snuggle Bed to review Bella wouldn’t even get off of it. She was lying in the dining room and I placed the bed next to her to see what she would do. Right away she lied down on top of it and spent HOURS on it. She loves it.

Bed 2

Bed 3

Bed 4

Bed 5

I have made the bed into different shapes. The cats prefer the tunnel / flat version. Our dog prefers it more so as a bed but he enjoys it flat too. Since the cats out number the dog, for now, I keep the Snuggle Bed in the tunnel / flat style.

You can see in the photos below the opened end where that cats like to crawl in and hide/sleep. You an also see why we have to watch that our dog Espn doesn’t sleep on top of one. LOL!

Snuggle Bed 1

Snuggle Bed 2

Snuggle Bed 3

In the above photo Espn is a bit fuzzy. That is because he was rolling around on the Snuggle Bed. He likes to lie on it, roll around on it and push it around.

I like that this bed converts to different styles. It not only offers your pet/pets more but it helps to keep them bored from sleeping in the same old bed too.

The Snuggle Bed is available in three colors – Charcoal Gray, Husky Gray or Truffle Brown. The one we have is Husky Gray. The bed is also available in three different sizes.

Snuggle Bed Sizes

We have the large one so you can tell how big it is against our dog and cat. Espn is a medium size dog (about 20 pounds) and Bella is an average size cat (around 10 pounds).

The bed is available on the Pet P.L.A.Y website and retails for $55 – $109 depending on the size you get. That might seem a bit pricey but considering the quality of the bed, the fact that it’s reversible and that it converts into different types of beds to please any dog or cat, it’s not that bad of a price.

If you are interested in the Snuggle Bed or any other product on the Pet P.L.A.Y site you can get 20% off your purchase using the discount code SHESCRIBES. This discount code expires the end of this year (December 31, 2015).

Pet P.L.A.Y has other pet beds as well as toys, pillows, tunnels, covers and more.

If you would like more information or to check out the other wonderful products available, visit www.PetPLAY.com.

Pet P.L.A.Y has been featured on the Today Show, CBS, Women’s Day, People, Hallmark Channel and Coastal Living. You can also find the brand on social media. All the links are found at the bottom of their website.

What do you think about the Snuggle Bed? Do you think your dog or cat would enjoy something like this?

New from PetSmart and Purina – Muse

As a “mom” to five cats, a dog who thinks he’s a cat and a fish who fears the cats (LOL), their health and happiness is a priority to me. I do what ever I can to meet their needs as well as provide them with a loving, care home filled with a lot of snuggles, hugs and playtime.

Having five cats is not always easy. Each cat has an entirely different personality. They are like five mini-people covered in fur with whiskers. They do have some common cat traits (sleeping a lot, loves to get into mischief…), each one is totally different than the other.

Velcro – He’s our oldest (and diabetic). He’s afraid of his own shadow and hides most of the day but when he’s hungry – oh boy! – you’ll know it. He’ll meow so loud I think the roof shakes. Even though he’s old he still have a bit of playfulness to him, like chasing after me in the dark on my way to the kitchen, grabbing my ankles and biting them. LOL!

Kitty – She’s quirky. She likes to “taste” everything. She’s always liking odd things like the television stand, window, the side of the bathtub, my computer… She also LOVES to eat tape (regular tape). We have to hide it from her. She also enjoys grabbing the stuffed animals out of the kids room (even if they are bigger than her) and drag them out into the living room as if she’s a noble hunter and that was her catch.

Padme 2

Padmé – Paddy is the mommy of the group. She wants to kiss and clean off all the other cats. She’s very loving and caring. She LOVES to snuggle and lie next to you in bed or on the couch. She’s the only one of the cats who’ll put our dog Espn in his place when he chases after them. She will swat him in the face and he’ll roll over and give in to her. He favorite thing to do is play with those scrunchy balls (the ones that make crinkly noises).

Anakin – He’s the trouble maker, always chasing after the girls. He’s also VERY vocal and will have an entire conversation with you (no kidding). He’s a bit of a comedian and always doing things to make us laugh. He LOVES boxes. It doesn’t matter how tiny the box is – if it’s a box Anakin will fit his 20 pound self inside of it.

Bella 2

Bella – She’s the baby. She’s the one with severe asthma and heart problems. She’s also sweet as sweet can be. My husband refers to her as “princess.” He lets her get away with more than the other cats. She loves to play (especially anything with strings) and her favorite thing is that paper used in shipping packages. She could play with it for hours. Sometimes my husband brings some home from work for her to play with. She even misses me when I go away and seems lost without me.

As you can see, they are all different. They have different personalities, likes and dislikes. Finding foods that they all like is not that easy. We end up buying different foods for them.

Bella is the most picky of them all. She likes something for a while then she won’t eat it anymore. It’s as if she gets bored with it. Therefore we are always giving her new foods. Kitty and Velcro love to try new foods too. Anakin will eat whatever is put in front of him. Padmé is the most pickiest and doesn’t like it when we change foods.

Their health means a lot to me so I prefer to feed them foods that are made with real ingredients – real ingredients I can see too like real pieces of meat and vegetables.

Purina PetSmart Muse

Not too long ago I was sent some samples of a new food from Purina that is sold exclusviely at PetSmart. It’s called Muse.

Just like us, every cat has their own personality and, yes, at times can strut a little cat-itude. More importantly, our cats fascinate and inspire us. That’s why Purina has created Muse, a full mmmmenu of tasty food that is completely cat-centric.

Every Muse recipe is made with natural ingredients and essential nutrients providing your furry friend with the nutrition they need and the great tastes the crave.

The cat friendly flavors Muse offers was inspired by cats. Cats, as you know, are not ordinary (as the case with my cats). Cats are unique and different. Cats are not always easy to please. They will let you know if they like something or not. That is a trait that Muse likes about cats.

I like that the brand let cats inspire the foods that they made. My cats inspire me too. They inspire me to have fun and enjoy the little things in life. You don’t need something spectacular to enjoy life like a big house, exotic vacation or fancy car. My cats prove that when they have a great time with a simple thing like a box and/or a piece of shipping paper. It’s the little thing that make them the happiest. I think people can learn a lot by that.

My cats also inspire me by proving that having some quirks is OK. Being a bit different is not a bad thing (except for when Kitty eats the tape – LOL).

Muse pate

Muse pate

We received some Muse samples and other cat goodies for my cats to try. They have different types of food textures, as well as flavors including pates, foods in broths, chowders and more.

Muse comes in flavors that cats will love including;

  • Grain Free Natural Tuna, Tilapia & Baby Clam Topper Adult Cat Food
  • Grain Free Natural Mackerel & Carrot Adult Cat Food
  • Adult Cat Food – Essential Nutrients, Natural Chicken, Tomato & Carrot, In Gravy
  • Adult Cat Food -Grain Free, Essential Nutrients, Natural Chicken & Tuna, In Broth

There are plenty of great recipes available.

I tried out the Muse food with my cats and they LOVED them. They gobbled them all up as if they haven’t eaten in weeks (they actually graze all day long so they are never really hungry). As a pet mom I enjoyed seeing the real ingredients in their food too.

Muse 1

Muse 2

My cats are enjoying Muse. So much so the last time I went to PetSmart to get some supplies for our fish I picked up more for them. I wish PetSmart was closer so I could offer it to them all the time. It’s OK though since I’m at PetSmart about once a month.

To learn more about Muse please visit www.MuseCatFood.com.

To find a PetSmart location near you visit PetSmart.com. You can also purchase Muse online.

Do you have cats? How does your cat (or cats) inspire you? I would very much love to hear from my readers.

Celebrate Mother’s Day with PetSmart (giveaway ends 5/17/15)

Mother’s Day is this coming weekend.

You don’t have to give birth to someone to be a mom or a mother-like figure in someone’s life. Take my situation for example. I was raised by my paternal grandparents. They have always been – and always will be – my mom and dad.

Some pet owners look at their pets as their “children.” I have to admit that I do that. After all, my pets are a part of my family, even though I clearly did not give birth to them (wouldn’t that be weird).

Our fish - Fishy (orange) and Wishy (white/orange)

Our fish – Fishy (orange) and Wishy (white/orange)

Some pet parents see their pets as children and take it to the extreme. They dress their pets up, take them on exotic vacations (lucky pets!), feed them gourmet meals and even adorn them with diamonds.

I think most pet parents are more like me. I talk to my pets, I try and spend time with each one individually and I like to get them Christmas and birthday gifts.

Each holiday season I get a “family ornament” where I put all my family members on it. I always make sure to include my pets too – all five cats, our dog and even our fish!

Here is one example.

I fuzzed out my human-kids names for their protection. The remaining names are our five cats, dog and two Goldfish.

I sometimes think our pets ARE related to my kids. They often exhibit similar personality traits as my kids.

As it is with your own children, having pets is a year round job that is filled with challenges and a lot of love and joy.

PetSmart wants to recognize all those pet moms who make a difference in the lives of their pets. They were kind enough to send me a box of goodies for both me and my fuzzy family members. We received the following items;

My cat’s love the bells inside and enjoy swatting them around the floor.

Cat Dental Treats

My cats are crazy for these.

What dog doesn’t enjoy a Frisbee?

Frog & Ball

The little plush frog toy is so cute. My dog loves the ball too but he keeps rolling it off our balcony and “I” am the one who has to “fetch” it. LOL!

Cats LOVE the fuzzy tails on these balls.

My dog goes bonkers when I put a treat inside. Even the cats try and get the treat out.

These mice are beautifully made. My cats love these, most especially our cat Anakin. He’s a “mouse-o-holic.” Ha Ha

These bowls are SO CUTE! They are almost too cute to let them get slobbered all over. LOL!

Greenies dental treats for both cats and dogs. Oral health is very important to me. If my kids brush twice a day so should my furry children.

NOT PICTURED: Several adorable cat collars from Whisker City (the photo turned out horribly) and a cute Pound Puppy dog toy (my dog had the toy and wouldn’t give it back to me to snap a photo).

My furry family members were not the only ones who received wonderful gifts – I also received a gift card to Spa Envy so that I could get a little pampering for Mother’s Day. I’ll consider that a gift from my pets since they can’t make me a card. 🙂

If you would like to learn more about any of these products, or to find a PetSmart location near you, please visit www.PetSmart.com. PetSmart is also found on social media.

Rachael Ray ™Nutrish™ for Cats Review & Giveaway (ends 8/18/14)

Our pets are very much a part of our family. We have five cats, a dog and two fish. They are all treated with love and respect. Some might even say that we spoil them a bit too much, after all our dog has his own toy box as does our cats. They also have plenty of comfy bedding all over our home. We even gave up our love seat for the cats and the ottoman for our dog.

We take our pet’s health into consideration all the time. We make sure they eat well, get plenty of exercise, regular vet visits and plenty of love and snuggles.

I’ll be honest with you. We haven’t always read the labels on the foods we feed our pets. We always assumed the food was good for our pets, especially brand name foods. It wasn’t until our vet referred to the food we regularly fed to our cats as “Skittles” – that is was as healthy for them as feeding them a bowl of Skittles. My heart sank when I heard those words from our vet. How could I be feeding what was essentially “junk food” to our pets?

From that day on I have made sure that I know what my pets are eating. I read the labels and try an avoid things like artificial colors, preservatives and ingredients. The more wholesome and natural the better.

Our dog is not a picky eater. He’ll eat any type of food that I feed him (I make sure to feed him the good stuff). I just have to watch out for his sensitive stomach.

Our cats tend to be a bit picky when it comes to their food. With five cats it’s not always easy to find something that they all enjoy.

We mostly feed the cats dry food but a few of our cats need wet food too (our oldest cat has a hard time with dry food these days and our “baby” doesn’t like dry food).

I was recently sent some cat food from Mom Central from Rachael Ray ™Nutrish™. I received a bag of dry food, a few containers of wet food and other goodies.

Nutrish™ is natural food for cats from Rachael Ray ™. It’s #1 ingredient is real meat like fish or chicken (which cats love). Nutrish™ is free from “junk”  like artificial flavors or preservatives.

Nutrish™ foods are made from wholesome recipes your furry friend is sure to love in both wet and dry varieties.

Nutrish wet

Some flavor varieties include;

  • Chicken Purrcata
  • Ocean Fish-alicious
  • Lip Smackin’ Sardine & Mackerel
  • Ocean Fish & Chicken Catch-iatore
  • Tuna Purrfection

I love the fun names they gave each flavor.

I like that they are made with real meat. After all, in the wild cats don’t eat overly processed or fake meats. No way! They want the real deal. They want health cat food. I’m pretty sure the King of the Jungle would rather enjoy real, fresh meat then fake meat.

I’ve checked the ingredients of other cat foods we had in the pantry. Keeping in mind that I am a label reader even when it comes to pet foods. I’m impressed by the ingredients. I also like that Nutrish™ products tend to be a lot more affordable then other brands.

I also like the variety of flavors. One brand I’ve used in the past only had a few flavors. Not only that when you put the other brands wet food on the cat dish it looked like a chunk of liverwurst. With Nutrish™ wet food you can actually see the bits and pieces of meat.

I let all of our cats try the dry food. They all seemed to enjoy it except one. She’s very picky about her food. Statistically speaking if 4 our of 5 of our cats liked the food I’d say it was a hit with my cats.

Fun package I received in order to do this review.

Fun package I received in order to do this review.

I like that the dry food had natural looking colors and piece. I don’t like to see a bowl full of different colored shapes. I’m pretty sure my cats don’t care if they are eating a yellow bone or a red heart. The shapes and colors are more for humans than animals.

Even our youngest cat who is not a fan of dry food nibbled on the Nutrish™ dry food.

Since we only had three containers of wet food to try out – and five cats – we opted to give our youngest cat, Bella, the Nutrish™ wet food. That doesn’t mean that our other cats didn’t want to enjoy it too. Every time I opened the container they all came running – literally!

I made a video and shared it on Instagram of Bella patiently waiting for me to serve her the wet food. Towards the of the video where she stops and looks over it’s because our other cat, Anakin, was making his way towards the food.

You can even see her smelling to food in the video as she patiently sat on the floor in front of the dishwasher while I put food on her dish.

You can see the video here – She Scribes Instagram – Bella & Nutrish video.

Bella didn’t seem to have a favorite. She loved all three varieties and gobbled them all up.

Some of our cats enjoying the brown paper bag that came with our review package.

Some of our cats enjoying the brown paper bag that came with our review package.

In addition to the cat foods I also received some recipe cards to make a  human and cat friendly recipe. I opted to create my own. I made chicken balls (instead of meatballs). I just “tweaked” the recipe for the cat version. I didn’t want to include anything that could be harmful for cats (like garlic).

Here is the recipe I made.

  • 1 pounds of ground chicken breast (I had to ask the butcher to make me some – I couldn’t find it on the shelf)
  • 3/4 of a cup of breadcrumbs (plain – nothing in them)
  • 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tablespoon of Italian seasoning
  • 1 large egg, beaten

  1. Preheat the over to 350 degrees.
  2. Put the chicken, egg and breadcrumbs into a large bowl and mix well together (I used my hands just like I do when I make meatloaf).
  3. Take out of chunk of the mixture and put aside.
  4. Put the remaining ingredients in the bowl and mix everything together well.
  5. Using your hands shape the mixture into small meatballs and place them on a pan. I used non-stick foil on the pan.
  6. With the chunk of meat and breadcrumbs you set aside make itty bitty meatballs out of them and put them on another pan (use non-stick foil if you can).
  7. Bake for about 8-10 minutes and remove the tiny meatballs from the oven. Continue cooking the remaining “people” meatballs for another 5-10 minutes.
  8. Remove the meatballs from the oven and serve. I served ours over some pasta with marinara sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella sauce on top. I served the other (tiny) meatballs to the cats.

Normally I make them to add to soup.

I didn’t want to add any seasoning or cheese to the cat’s meatballs because I don’t want to risk getting them sick or serving them something that is not good for them.

Holiday Pet Safety

Pet Holiday Safety

The holidays are suppose to be a happy and joyful time for everyone – including your pets. However this time of year can also be a dangerous time for your pets if you are not careful and diligent about keeping them out of harm’s way.

As a pet mom I make extra certain that the holidays don’t mean a trip (or two) to the emergency vet (we already have enough vet bills). Not only that, I wouldn’t want our holiday ruined if one of our beloved pets gets seriously ill or becomes a fatality.

Here are some helpful safety tips to ensure that your furry friend is safe this holiday season.

Keep holiday plants out of reach. Some plants – especially Poinsettias, Mistletoe, Holly and Lilies) are toxic for pets if they ingest them. Even pine cones and tree needles can cause intestinal damage if swallowed. Make sure to vacuum under your tree often.

Cats love shiny, dangling things. As pretty as it is consider leaving it off your tree is better for our feline friend. Not only can they swallow the tinsel but they can also pull down the tree if it’s not secured properly, or knock down decorations which could also be a potential health hazard.

If your cat likes to climb inside your Christmas tree hanging a lemon scented car air freshener, or placing orange peels at the base of the tree could stop them. Most cats don’t like the smell of citrus.

Avoid putting lights and decorations on low branches. The last thing you want is you pup chewing through the lights and getting electrocuted or chewing up your favorite ornaments.

Cat Christmas

NEVER EVER leave your pet alone in a room with lit candles. That is a major fire hazard. Use flameless candles. They give of the same appeal but are much safer to use around pets (and small children).

If possible secure your tree. Sometimes pets might accidently bump into a tree which could cause it to fall down and injure your pet plus break many of your valuable and precious ornaments.

Use a pet friendly tree preservative if you use a real Christmas tree. Dogs and cats often will drink the water you use to keep your tree hydrated. When in doubt just use fresh, clean water to water your tree and try and keep your pet from drinking out of it. Stagnant tree water contains A LOT of bacteria which could make your pet very ill.

If you like to put edible goodies in stockings be sure to hand them up high enough so your pet cannot reach them. Edible goodies smell good to dogs and they might tear into the stocking before you do. Some foods, like chocolate, are toxic to animals and it can make the very sick.

As you are toasting to the end of the current year and welcoming in the New Year be sure to keep the cocktails out of reach. Unlike humans, pets don’t get drunk – they can get severely sick if they drink alcohol, possibly even going into respiratory failure, a coma or even dying from ingesting alcohol.

Pet's can't "party" like their human family members - Alcohol is a big no-no for pets (FYI... My cat was sleeping at the time)

Pet’s can’t “party” like their human family members – Alcohol is a big no-no for pets (FYI… My cat was sleeping at the time)

Don’t serve your pet “people food” and make sure all food is out of reach. Bones for example (turkey, ham or lamb) can splinter and get stuck in your pet’s throat or intestines. Not only that, too much people food can make our pet obese and it can upset their stomachs. I’m sure you don’t want to spend Christmas morning cleaning up dog diarrhea from you carpet.

Make sure your pet cannot get into the garbage. Grandma’s fruitcake that you toss into the garbage could contain things like raisins which are toxic for dogs. Other ingredients, like garlic, is also bad for your pet.

Make sure there are not little things lying around that could be swallowed by your pet, like button cell batteries and small toys.

The holidays might seem merry and bright to you, but a house full of strangers can be very stressful on your pet. Consider putting your pet/pets into a backroom, away from all the festivities. Not only will it make it less stressful for your pet but also safer for your guests. Frightened pets might lash out and scratch or bite a guest.

If you are having house guests this holiday season be sure to talk to them about pet safety. Make sure they don’t leave valuable lying around or things like prescription medication or dentures. You wouldn’t want Fido taking a chomp out of grandpa’s chompers.

Dog Dentures

If you live in an area that gets cold make sure that your pet keeps warm too. Even though your pet has fur doesn’t mean it can’t get affected by the elements. Be sure to keep your pet warm and cozy on Winter walks and limit their time outdoors, especially in bitter temperatures. Also, be sure to check the pads of your pets feed for rock salt. Rock salt left in their paws can burn and cause them pain.

If you use streamers and confetti to celebrate the New Year be sure to clean up immediately so that your dog or cat doesn’t eat the confetti or streamers. If the New York City Sanitation Department can clean up Times Square lightening fast after the ball drops, you can certainly get your living room vacuumed in a matter of minutes.

In case of emergencies make sure you have first aid supplies specifically made for pets. Not all vets are open during the holidays (especially on Christmas and New Year’s day). It’s important that you keep a first aid kit for your furry friend to help with minor injuries.

Dr. Emmo’s carries a line of pet friendly first aid products that are non-toxic, all natural and safe to lick. The product line includes;

Dr. Emmo’s Wound Care Spray Wash is intended to be the first of a two-step  process for the treatment of pets with minor cuts, scrapes and skin irritations.  This fine cleansing spray works to thoroughly rinse, remove and flush bacteria  in all minor pet wounds.

The second step in this wound care system is the  application of Wound Care Spray Gel to the wound site. This easy to apply gel  with its viscous formulation is intended to stick to the wound site, keeping the  wound clean and protected throughout the healing process.

The Ear Care Rinse offers immediate relief to wax build up and pesky irritations  of the ear.

Dr. Emmo’s Eye Care Wash is an antibiotic-free  formulation designed as a “one-step”, all-natural, topical eye care rinse for  use in all animal eyes. It relieves eye irritation, burning, scratching while  killing 99.9% of bacteria/germs.

Dr. Emmo’s motto is “Accidents will happen… be prepared everywhere”. That means your pet is vunlunerable to accidents 365 days out of the year, not just during the holidays.
