Upcoming Movies for 2019 from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, DisneyNature and Lucas Films

Can you believe it’s almost a month since Christmas? January 2019 is almost over. Before you know it we’ll be planning for Memorial Day weekend.

I’m a big fan of movies (in case you haven’t noticed from all my movie reviews). My husband and I love to go out on dates and most of the time we go and see a movie. We prefer to go to matinees so that the theater is less crowded. We also wait to see movies until they have been out for at least two weeks, that way the theater is not as crowd.

Here are some upcoming movies for 2019 that you might be interested in.

March 9, 2019 – CAPTAIN MARVEL (Marvel Studios)

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.

The film stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Rune Temte, Algenis Perez Soto, Mckenna Grace, with Annette Bening, with Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.

Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is produced by Kevin Feige and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Patricia Whitcher and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The story is by Nicole Perlman and Joe Shrapnel & Anna Waterhouse, and the screenplay is by Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck and Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Jac Schaeffer.

Marvel Studios’ CAPTAIN MARVEL opens on March 8, 2019 in U.S. theaters.

I know A LOT of Marvel fans are super excited to see this film Even the kids I work with are talking about how they cannot wait to see Captain Marvel.

From the trailer I’ve seen (above), this film looks A-W-E-S-O-M-E.

March 29, 2019 – DUMBO (Walt Disney Studios)

From Disney and visionary director Tim Burton, the all-new grand live-action adventure “Dumbo” expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight. Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.

Directed by Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”) from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger (“Ophelia,” “Dream House”), and produced by Justin Springer (“TRON: Legacy”), Kruger, Katterli Frauenfelder (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Big Eyes”) and Derek Frey (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Frankenweenie”).

DUMBO flies into theaters on March 29, 2019.

Dumbo is one of the Disney films that ALWAYS makes me cry – ALWAYS! I cannot watch the part where Dumbo’s mom is taken away from him. I also cannot listen to the song “Baby Mine”  without getting all misty-eyed.

Disney has done an incredible job turning beloved animated films into live action films. I’m excited to see how they do with Dumbo, especially because Dumbo is one of my favorite Disney films (and I happen to love elephants).

April 17, 2019 – PENGUINS (Disneynature)

Disneynature’s all-new feature film “Penguins” is a coming-of-age story about an Adélie penguin named Steve who joins millions of fellow males in the icy Antarctic spring on a quest to build a suitable nest, find a life partner and start a family. None of it comes easily for him, especially considering he’s targeted by everything from killer whales to leopard seals, who unapologetically threaten his happily ever after. From the filmmaking team behind “Bears” and “Chimpanzee,” Disneynature’s “Penguins” opens in theaters nationwide in time for Earth Day 2019.

Disneynature’s PENGUINS opens in theaters on April 17, 2019.

I’m a big fan of the DisneyNature films. I have yet to see one that I didn’t truly love. Not only are they visually stunning, but they also are very educational.

I plan on seeing this in the movie theater. I enjoy seeing DisneyNature films on the big screen.

April 26, 2019 – AVENGERS: ENDGAME (Marvel Studios)

Marvel Studios hasn’t released many details about this sequel to Avengers: Infinity War.

I know A LOT of people are super anxious to see this film to find out what happened to their favorite Marvel characters. I’m one of those people. I have to see if they are all ready dead, or if there is a way to bring them all back alive.

May 24, 2019 – ALADDIN (Walt Disney Studios)

A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie (“Sherlock Holmes,” “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”), who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, “Aladdin” is written by John August (“Dark Shadows,” “Big Fish”) and Ritchie based on Disney’s “Aladdin.” The film stars Will Smith (“Ali,” “Men in Black”) as the larger-than-life Genie; Mena Massoud (“Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”) as the charming scoundrel Aladdin; Naomi Scott (“Power Rangers”) as Jasmine, the beautiful self-determined princess; Marwan Kenzari (“Murder on the Orient Express”) as Jafar, the powerful sorcerer; Navid Negahban (“Legion”) as the Sultan concerned with his daughter’s future; Nasim Pedrad (“Saturday Night Live”) as Dalia, Princess Jasmine’s free-spirited best friend and confidante; Billy Magnussen (“Into the Woods”) as the handsome and arrogant suitor Prince Anders; and Numan Acar (“The Great Wall”) as Hakim, Jafar’s right-hand man and captain of the palace guards.

“Aladdin” is produced by Dan Lin (“Sherlock Holmes”) and Jonathan Eirich (“Death Nate”) with Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Marc Platt (“La La Land”) and Kevin De La Noy (“The Dark Knight Rises”) serving as executive producers. Eight-time Academy Award winning composer Alan Menken (“Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid”) provides the score, which includes new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Oscar-winning lyricists Howard Ashman (“Little Shop of Horrors”) and Tim Rice (“The Lion King”) and includes two new songs written by Menken and Oscar and Tony Award-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (“La La Land,” “Dear Evan Hanson”). The film, which was shot on practical stages in London and on location amidst the stunning desert vistas of Jordan, has a talented creative team helping to bring Agrabah to life, including: director of photography Alan Stewart (“The Commuter”), production designer Gemma Jackson (“Game of Thrones”) and costume designer Michael Wilkinson (“American Hustle”).

ALADDIN opens in U.S. theatres nationwide May 24, 2019.

Just like with Dumbo, I am excited to see this beautiful animated film come to life. I’m also looking forward to seeing how Will Smith does as the genie, which was voiced by the late Robin Williams. Will Smith seems like an odd choice, but who knows, he might totally “own” this role.

June 21, 2019 – TOY STORY 4 (Disney·Pixar)

Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy. Directed by Josh Cooley (“Riley’s First Date?”) and produced by Jonas Rivera (“Inside Out,” “Up”) and Mark Nielsen (associate producer “Inside Out”).

Disney·Pixar’s TOY STORY 4 ventures to U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019.

On one of our first dates my husband took me to see Toy Story (the one that started it all). He even had a Buzz and Woody dolls. He had them to “collect” (keep on a shelf to look at, not touch), but his many nieces had other plans for them. They loved playing with them. So he let the kids have them.

Funny story.. when we were dating we wrote up a “contract” that we’d be together for 99 years. We had Buzz and Woody “sign” our contract. To this day we still have it and we joking count down how many years are left on the contract (77 years left).

July 19, 2019 – THE LION KING (Walt Disney Studios)

Director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journey’s to the African savannah where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother–and former heir to the throne-has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon, “The Lion King” utilizes pioneer filmmaking techniques to bring these treasured characters to life in a whole new way.

THE LION KING roars into theatres on July 19, 2019.

This is another Disney film that I love. Actually, I LOVE this film. It’s another one of those “tear jerker” Disney film’s where it’s impossible for me to watch it without crying, but I power through because this is such a beautiful movie – both the story and the animation.

I LOVE how adorable Simba is in this film. I have a feeling there will be a lot of Lion King merchandise available because kids will want to have their own lions.

I met the artist who drew Scar in the film, Andreas Deja, during a press junket for Disney. He drew me Scar and autographed it for me. I keep it hanging above my desk. I love it!

I bet this film is going to look breathtaking on the big screen. This is another film that I must see in theaters because I know seeing it on the big screen will be an incredible experience.

August 9, 2019 – ARTEMIS FOWL (Walt Disney Studios)

Disney’s “Artemis Fowl,” based on the beloved book by Eoin Colfer, is a fantastical, spellbinding adventure that follows the journey of 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he seeks to find his father who has mysteriously disappeared. With the help of his loyal protector Butler, Artemis sets out to find him, and in doing so uncovers an ancient, underground civilization—the amazingly advanced world of fairies. Deducing that his father’s disappearance is somehow connected to the secretive, reclusive fairy world, cunning Artemis concocts a dangerous plan—so dangerous that he ultimately finds himself in a perilous war of wits with the all-powerful fairies.

“Artemis Fowl” is directed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell, Tamara Smart, Nonzo Anozie, with Josh Gad, and Judi Dench. Judy Hofflund and Branagh are producing with Angus More Gordon and Matthew Jenkins serving as executive producers. Conor McPherson wrote the screenplay.

Disney’s ARTEMIS FOWL opens in U.S. theaters on August 9, 2019.

Admittedly I don’t know much about this film. I have seen the books in the bookstore, but I have never purchased one to read.

The trailer looks interesting. In fact, I was contemplating purchasing one of the books to read, just so I can get an idea of what this film is about.

November 22, 2019 – FROZEN 2 (Walt Disney Animation Studios)

Arendelle heats up in 2019 when Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf return to the big screen in Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen 2,” the much-anticipated follow-up to 2013’s Oscar®-winning “Frozen”—the highest grossing animated film of all time. Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad reprise their roles, while Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, the team behind “Frozen,” return to the directors’ chairs.

FROZEN 2 opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 22, 2019.

Not much is known about the sequel to the insanely popular Frozen movie. And by “insanely popular” I mean that pretty much every child has seen it and can sing along to all of the great songs from the film

Sadly, there is no trailer available. One is coming soon, but I bet it will just be a teaser trailer and not the official trailer (not yet anyway).

December 20, 2019 – STAR WARS: EPISODE IX (Lucasfilm)

NOTHING is known about the final sequel in the popular franchise. Not a single story line has been released. There are not even any on set photos (at least hone that I have seen).

I saw Star Wars: A New Hope in theaters when it was first released. I have been a fan ever since. We even had two cats named after Star Wars characters (Anakin and Padmé). I also have a 4′ Darth Vadar and robotic Yoda “guarding” our front door.

I didn’t really like Star Wars: The Last Jedi, or Rouge One: A Star Wars Story, but all of the other Star Wars films, including Solo, I really loved.

I can’t wait!

Are you excited about any of these upcoming films? Which film (or films) are you most excited to see? Feel free to comment and share your thoughts.

Ant-Man and the Wasp, available today on Blu-ray and DVD

Available today is the sequel to the hit film, Ant-Man, called Ant-Man and the Wasp.

The film brings back the characters and actors from the first film including Paul Rudd (Ant-Man/Scott Lang), Michael Douglas (Hank Pym) and Evangeline Lilly (Hope).

It’s been a couple of years since we last saw Scott Lang. He has been under house arrest for his part in the Civil War. He’s only days away from it finally being over. It’s also been a long time since he’s had contact with his former associates (friends?), Hank Pym and his daughter Hope.

Hank and Hope believe that Hank’s wife (and Hope’s mother), Janet, is still alive. In the previous film, viewers learned that Janet was shrunken down and disappeared into the Quantum Realm. They also feel like they have a way to rescue her and they need Scott’s help.

Hank and Hope have created a tunnel they believe can help them reach the Quantum Realm. It’s in their lab. They need Scott to come to the lab with them to help them out. The devised a plan that will make it appear like Scott is still under house arrest, which should (hopefully) keep FBI agent, Jimmy Woo, from catching on to Scott’s true whereabouts. If he catches him out and about, and working with Hank and Hope, he will be in serious trouble.

Scott is not really a superhero. He’s just an ordinary man who wants to stay on the straight and narrow for his daughter’s sake. He also has a successful security business that he doesn’t want to mess up either.

Reluctantly, Scott goes with Hank and Hope to help them reach Janet.

The rescue is easier said than done. They are faced with people and circumstances that can destroy their efforts, most especially from a new character named Ghost. Ghost is the daughter of a former colleague of Hank’s who was damaged as a little girl in a lab accident. Ghost is dead set against allowing them to bring Janet back from the Quantum Realm.

Along the way, Hope takes on the role of Wasp, in order to work with Scott when he is Ant-Man. She’s kind of his sidekick, but often appears as if she is the superhero and Ant-Man is the sidekick.

Will the trio be able to rescue Janet before it’s too late? Will it be found out that Scott violated his house arrest and be sent to jail? And why does Ghost want to stop them from rescuing Janet? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Ant-Man and the Wasp. Look for it where ever movies are sold. The film is also available on digital download.

There are a lot of bonus features with the Blu-ray/DVD versions of the film. Some bonus features include

  • Making-of Featurettes:
    • Back in the Ant Suit: Scott Lang – Hero and all-star dad Scott Lang keeps the laughs coming for the audience, cast and crew.
    • A Suit of Her Own: The Wasp – Highly trained Hope Van Dyne is now the Wasp. See how some of her craziest stunts and action-packed scenes were brought to life.
    • Subatomic Super Heroes: Hank & Janet – Hank Pym’s wife Janet was lost in the quantum realm. Trace the legacy of these characters and the iconic actors who portray them.
    • Quantum Perspective: The VFX and Production Design of “Ant-Man and The Wasp” – Explore the movie’s visual effects and production design from a whole new viewpoint, in which every micro and macro detail counts.
  • Gag Reel and Outtakes – Audiences are treated to the hilarious quips that did not make the film as well as exclusive outtakes from Stan Lee and Tim Heidecker.
    • Gag Reel – Join in the fun with these outtakes from the set.
    • Stan Lee Outtakes – Stan Lee tries out a series of hilarious one-liners for the scene in which his car shrinks.
    • Tim Heidecker Outtakes – Check out Whale Boat Captain Daniel Goobler and his improvised whale-watching riffs.
  • Deleted Scenes (with commentary by Director Peyton Reed)
    • Worlds Upon Worlds – As Janet leads Hank through the surreal landscape of the quantum realm, they encounter an intelligent life form.
    • Sonny’s on the Trail – On the hunt for Hank Pym and his lab, Sonny Burch and his henchmen check the security camera of a neighborhood bookstore.

And MUCH more.

So far I have only watched the deleted scenes and the gag reel. It looked like they had a blast on the set of this film. Paul Rudd is really a funny person.

I love this film. It’s FUNNY! It’s part action film, part comedy, with a lot of cool (SUPER COOL) special effects along the way.

The most impressive things to me where how the film makers were able to shrink the characters into tiny, ant-sized beings, then blow them up Godzilla size. I especially enjoyed seeing them drive around in Hot Wheels/Matchbox sized cars. That was super cute.

Unlike other Marvel superhero films, this film is much more lighthearted and more fun than the others. After all, Scott Lang is a reluctant superhero compared to his Marvel counterparts.

I really enjoyed this film. I think I liked the original just a wee bit more, but this film is a lot of fun none the less.

This film is a lot less violent than other Marvel films too. For that reason, I think this is a family friendly film. There is no drugs or nudity, and there are very little curse words (at least I didn’t notice too many).

Feel free to check out the film on Facebook and Twitter. You can also check out Marvel on Instagram.

On a side note… on Marvel’s Instagram page you’ll see a LEGO Spiderman if you scroll down. That is my co-worker! She made the costume herself. She wore it to the New York Comic Con recently. How cool is that?

Below is the trailer for your enjoyment.

Upcoming Movie Releases I am Super Excited About

Date Night at the movies with my husband. I have no idea what is on the screen in the background.

I love going to the movies. It’s my favorite “date night” activity to do with my husband. Occasionally our kids tag along, but they are young adults now with jobs and significant others, so they tend to go to the movies on their own more often.

Even though my husband and I are technically “adults,” we still enjoy going to see “kiddie movies” as well as ones geared towards us grown-ups.

Here are a few upcoming movie releases that I am super excited about.

Ralph Breaks the Internet

I went on a press junket to L.A. for the first film, Wreck-It-Ralph. I LOVED the film. We have it on Blu-ray and I pop it in often. We even watch it when we see it on television. It’s just an overall fun movie.

I was thrilled when I heard there was a sequel in the works. That sequel is Ralph Breaks the Internet. It’s scheduled to be released in theaters on November 21, 2018.

In Ralph Breaks the Internet, video-game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and best friend Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) leave the comforts of Litwak’s arcade in an attempt to save her game, Sugar Rush. Their quest takes them to the vast, uncharted world of the internet where they rely on the citizens of the internet—the Netizens—to help navigate their way. Lending a virtual hand are Yesss (voice of Taraji P. Henson), the head algorithm and the heart and soul of the trend-making site “BuzzzTube,” and Shank (voice of Gal Gadot), a tough-as-nails driver from a gritty online auto-racing game called Slaughter Race, a place Vanellope wholeheartedly embraces—so much so that Ralph worries he may lose the only friend he’s ever had. Directed by Rich Moore (“Zootopia,” “Wreck-It Ralph”) and Phil Johnston (co-writer “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Zootopia,” writer, “Cedar Rapids”), and produced by Clark Spencer (“Zootopia,” “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Bolt,” “Lilo & Stitch”).

Check out the trailer.

Fun! I can’t wait to see it.

For more information visit the film’s website. You can also “like” the film on Facebook and follow the film on Twitter and Instagram. The official hashtag is #RalphBreakstheInternet.

Mary Poppins Returns

I LOVE the classic Disney film Mary Poppins! I know all the songs by heart. It’s one of my all-time favorite films.

I was a bit surprised to hear that they were making another Mary Poppins film, especially without Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.

In the new film, actress Emily Blunt takes over the role of Mary Poppins. An interesting choice indeed.

In Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns, an all-new original musical and sequel, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London.

Check out the trailer.

It looks good. I’m excited to see this. The film comes to theaters on December 19, 2018.

Be sure to check out the film on Facebook and Instagram. You can also follow Disney Studios on Twitter. The official hashtag is #MaryPoppinsReturns.

Captain Marvel

I know a lot of people have been anxiously waiting for this film to be released. I’m one of those people. I intentionally re-watched the trailer over and over again because the film looks so good!

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. Marvel Studios’ CAPTAIN MARVEL is produced by Kevin Feige and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Patricia Whitcher and Stan Lee are the executive producers.

Watch the trailer for yourself and let me know what you think.

So good!

Captain Marvel comes to theaters in March 18, 2019.

Don’t forget to “like” Captain Marvel on Facebook. You can also follow the film on Twitter and Marvel Studios on Instagram. You can also check out the movie’s official website. The official hashtag is #CaptainMarvel.

These are just some of the awesome movies I am looking forward to seeing over the next few months.

What films are you most excited to see? Are any of these films on your “must see” lists? Feel free to comment and share your thoughts.

Movie Review – Avengers: Infinity War

Available today on Blu-ray, DVD and digital is the latest installment the line of hit movies from Marvel Entertainment – Avengers: Infinity War.

This film stars many of the characters/actors from other Marvel movies.

  • Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.)
  • Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch)
  • Star Lord (Chris Pratt)
  • Thor (Chris Helmsworth)
  • Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson)
  • Spider Man (Tom Holland)
  • Captain America (Chris Evans)
  • Hulk (Mark Ruffalo)
  • Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen)
  • Bucky Barnes/Winter Solider (Sebastian Stan)
  • Loki (Tom Hinddleston)
  • Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie)
  • Black Panter (Chad Boseman)
  • Vision (Paul Bettany)
  • Gamora (Zoe Saldana)
  • War Machine (Don Cheadle)
  • Thanos (Josh Brolin)

Why did I list SOME of the characters and actors? I wanted to show you just how star-studded and incredible this film is. It’s pretty much all of your favorite Marvel universe characters all in ONE film. AMAZING!

The feared and powerful Thanos is on a quest to retrieve all of the infinity stones so that he can be the most powerful person in the entire universe. He will stop at nothing and spare no lives in order to have every stone.

The stones are scattered throughout the universe, with two of the stones being here on Earth.

Once he has all of the stone, Thanos plans on destroying half of all life in the universe so that things can “reset” themselves and things can get better. He feels like life has got so bad that this is the only way that things can be set right away, no matter what the cost to human life is.

In effort to stop Thanos, many of the Marvel characters join forces, both here on Earth and in space. They are not only trying to stop Thanos, but also his “goons” and to protect the remaining infinity stones no matter what.

Will Thanos succeed in obtaining all of the infinity stones? Will any of our beloved Marvel characters parish in the fight against Thanos? To find out you need to pick up, or download, Avengers: Infinity War. Look for it where ever movies are sold.

I would have given more of a synopsis, but I didn’t want to give away much of the story. You have to see it for yourself, especially if you are a Marvel fan.

To say this film is jam-packed with action is an understatement. From the moment the movie first starts to the very end it’s non-stop action.

The special effects in this film will blow your mind! I was very impressed by them, but then again, no Marvel movie I have ever seen has failed to impress me when it comes to the special effects.

I regret not seeing this on the big screen. I bet the film was 100x’s better on the big screen.

Frankly, I was SHOCKED how the film played out as far as characters that were killed off. Yes, I said that, KILLED OFF! I don’t know how they are going to make anymore Marvel movies without many important characters. I was actually upset that they killed so many off – including one of my personal favorites.

There are a lot of bonus features with this title. I have watched some of them, but not all of them as of yet (at least at the time I am writing this).

Blu-ray & Digital:

  • Strange Alchemy (5:08)– Share the thrill of characters from across the MCU meeting for the first time—and discover why some were teamed up together.

Digital Exclusive:

  • A Directors’ Roundtable (approx. 32 min.) – Eight amazing directors reflect on how their movies contribute to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s larger storytelling adventure.

Even if you are not a fan of the Marvel films you’ll love this film. My husband is not really a “fan boy” of any Marvel (or superheroes), yet he fully enjoyed this film. He didn’t even know who half the characters were. I had to pause the film several times to explain some of the characters backstories.

Be sure to watch it all the way to the very end for an “Easter egg,” as it’s called. It’s a little snippet that usually hints at a future film. I only saw one “Easter egg.”

Below you’ll find the film’s trailer.

Did you see Marvel Avengers: Infinity War? What did you think about the film?

Who is your favorite Marvel character?

Feel free to comment and share your thoughts.

Marvel’s Thor Ragnarok is now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download

A few month ago my husband and I were at the movie theater for a “date night.” We went to dinner then a movie.

As you well know, before any movie starts you need to sit through 10-15 minutes of previews.

One of the previews we saw that day was for Marvel Studios Thor Ragnarok. After the 2-3 minutes of the preview I was in total awe. I knew I had to see the film, especially on the big screen. It looks AMAZING.

Well… life has a way of throwing us off track. We never did get to see Thor Ragnorak in the theater, but thankfully the film is now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download.

Thor Ragnorok stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hinddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins. Talk about a steller cast!

The film is the follow up to the 2011 film, Thor, and 2013’s Thor: The Dark World. I saw the first film, but not the second one. I think not seeing that one left me a bit confused when it came to Thor Ragnorok. I was a wee bit lost. Thankfully I was sent the Blu-ray/DVD to review. I was able to watch it twice thus far, so I was able to get up to speed with what was going on.

Sometimes you can see a sequel without seeing another film in the series and be able to catch up and figure out what is going on. With this film it helps that you have a basic understanding of the characters and the story lines in order to know what is going on. If you are a bit lost, no worries. Simply watch the movie again and you’ll get caught up.

Normally when I write reviews I write up a synopsis of the film based on what I saw. Due to the fact that this film has a lot of odd spelling places and people, I thought it would be easier to copy/paste an official synopsis so as not to misspell anything.

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his home world and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela (Cate Blanchett). But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) – and grapple with his silver-tongued adopted brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the fierce warrior Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and the eccentric Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum).

No offense to Marvel, but it’s impossible to figure out how to spell some of these places and people. LOL!

First and foremost, the special effects in this film are super cool. There is A LOT going on. At times it’s almost too much. Your eyes are darting all over the screen trying to absorb everything that is going on in hopes that you don’t miss anything. I bet this film would have been mind-blowing on the big screen.

Admittedly, there was a bit too much going on at times. That is not a bad thing, but I always felt like I was going to miss something. I felt better after watching the film for the second time because I never really missed much. I saw it all.

Chris Hemsworth is the ideal Thor. He’s tall, blonde and muscular. It’s very much “eye candy.” At the same time, he does add a touch of humor to the film. I would consider this film a sci-fi, fantasy film with a bit of comedy mixed in thanks to Hemsworth and Hiddleson.

Cate Blanchett – WOW! I would have never considered her for such a role. Her character is so evil. She looks evil too.

When I think of Cate Blanchett I think of her in her films like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Cinderella, Carol, Blue Jasmine and Elizabeth. I would never, ever picture her in the role of the evil Hela. It doesn’t even look like her!

I love how Marvel film’s find a way of connecting to their other Marvel characters. In Thor Ragnarok, Thor has to battle Hulk. Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) also has a tiny bit in this film. It’s amazing how they are interwoven with one another. Major kudos to Marvel Studios for such an accomplishment.

I received a really cool Valkyrie t-shirt, but sadly, it’s way too small for me to wear.

Overall I found the film to be very entertaining and visually spectacular. It made me want to find a copy of Thor: The Dark World, to see what I missed and to “connect the dots” between the three films. Even my husband liked the film, and he’s not that big into Marvel films (he’s totally into Wonder Woman).

There are A LOT of bonus features to check out. Admittedly I didn’t have the chance to check them all out yet, but I did check out a few of them. The Gag Reel is certainly worth watching. For such a serious film it’s great to see the actors having fun on the set. Getting In Touch With Your Inner Thor was fun to watch too. There is even a short featurette where Darryl does an ad for a new room mate.

The featurette on Unstoppable Women was great to watch too. Hela and Valkyrie are totally bad a$$!!!

Look for Thor Ragnorok where ever movies are sold.

Here are some fun facts about the film from the commentary track with Taika Waititi, the director of the film.

  • The character of Surtur was voiced by Clancy Brown and motion-captured by Taika Waititi.
  • The Doctor Strange sequence was filmed in London during the Doctor Strange production, 8-9 months prior to principle photography on Thor: Ragnarok.
  • The synth music was a big part of the world of Sakaar. Mark Mothersbaugh developed the score and pulled together a variety of analog synth music and original pieces from Robert Moog and blended them with Asgardian instrumentals to create a new score.
  • Taika Waititi designed Valkyrie’s wrist tattoo.
  • The 3-headed gladiator on Sakaar had his far-left head modeled after Taika Waititi.
  • The unique lighting design of the battle between Hela and the Valkyries has never been used in a major film before. The sequence was designed by Stu Rutherford, who starred in Waititi’s “What We Do in the Shadows,” and Carlo Van de Roer. The “bullet time” effect of the long shadows is created by a series of strobe lights that surround the actors during the scene while it is shot in slow motion.
  • Mark Ruffalo wears the classic Patrick Nagel album cover for Duran Duran’s “Rio” when he puts on Tony Stark’s clothes.
  • The original Norse myth of Ragnarok includes Surtur as taking part in the destruction of Asgard.

Below is the trailer for your enjoyment. I also included an extended scene from the film.

December 25, 2018 – MARY POPPINS RETURNS (Walt Disney Studios)

In Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” an all new sequel with a fresh sensibility that celebrates the spirit of the original, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Emily Blunt (“The Girl on the Train,” “Into the Woods”) stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton,” “Moana”) plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London. “Mary Poppins Returns” is directed by Rob Marshall (“Into the Woods,” “Chicago”). The screenplay is by David Magee (“Life of Pi”) and the screen story is by Magee & Marshall & John DeLuca (“Into the Woods”) based upon The Mary Poppins Stories by PL Travers. The producers are Marshall, DeLuca and Marc Platt (“La La Land”) with Callum McDougall serving as executive producer and the music is by Marc Shaiman (“Hairspray”) with songs by Shaiman and Scott Wittman (“Hairspray”). The film also stars Ben Whishaw (“Spectre”) as Michael Banks; Emily Mortimer (“Hugo”) as Jane Banks; Julie Walters (“Harry Potter” films) as the Banks’ housekeeper Ellen; with Colin Firth (“The King’s Speech”) as Fidelity Fiduciary Bank’s William Weatherall Wilkins; and Meryl Streep (“Florence Foster Jenkins”) as Mary’s eccentric cousin, Topsy and introduces three new Banks’ children played by Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and newcomer Joel Dawson. Angela Lansbury appears as the Balloon Lady, a treasured character from the PL Travers books and Dick Van Dyke is Mr. Dawes Jr., the retired chairman of the bank now run by Firth’s character.

PL Travers first introduced the world to the no-nonsense nanny in her 1934 children’s book “Mary Poppins.” However, the subsequent adventures of Mary Poppins remained only on the pages of the seven other PL Travers’ books…until now. “Mary Poppins Returns” is drawn from the wealth of material in these additional books. The film takes place in 1930s Depression-era London 24 years after the original film was set. Michael Banks works for the same financial institution that employed his father and still lives at 17 Cherry Tree Lane with his three children, Annabel, John and Georgie and their housekeeper Ellen. Carrying on in her mother’s tradition, Jane Banks campaigns for workers’ rights and provides a helping hand to Michael’s family. When the family suffers a personal loss, Mary Poppins magically re-enters their lives and with Jack’s help, brings joy and wonder back into their home.

So… which film are YOU most excited to see? Comment and tell me. I always love to hear from readers.
