Jackson Galaxy’s Petmate Line Launching at PetSmart (giveaway ends 5/20/16)

My Cat from Hell Jackson Galaxy

Have you ever watched the show My Cat From Hell that airs on Animal Planet? The series is hosted by Jackson Galaxy – the “cat whisper” (similar to how Cesar Millan works with dogs).

In My Cat Fro Hell, Jackson Galaxy visits cat owners and their psycho cats to help them find solutions to their cats unwanted behaviors.

We have five cats. None of them are psycho (THANKFULLY!) but a couple of them have behaviors we wish we could stop. Take for example our eldest cat, Velcro. He likes to urinate under and around my desk, in front of the bedroom door and in front of the closet door.

With five cats its important to keep the litter box clean at all times. We clean it out several times per day. A dirty litter box is NOT why he does it. The litter box is cleaned all the time. We are fully convinced that he does it out of spite.

Velcro likes to have ice cubes in the water dish (he likes REALLY cold water). If he is at the dish meowing for ice and we don’t give it to him, it seems like that is when he urinates under the desk.

Doing it out of spite is the only thing we can think of. Aside from his Diabetes, he’s a healthy cat who gets plenty of love and affection.

Jackson Galaxy! We need you!

Anyway…

Jackson Galaxy has recently released his own line of pet toys and products, exclusively at PetSmart.

PetSmart was kind enough to send me a couple of products to review with our cats.

JG Toy 1

Jackson Galaxy™ Space Station Cat Toy

This has been a HUGE hit with our cats, most especially our youngest cat Bella and our middle cat, Anakin.

Bella loves to not only swat the little all found inside the Space Station, but she also figured out how to remove the ball and sometimes we catch her swatting it around in the kitchen or dining room (hardwood floors – rolls around faster than on the carpet).

Check out this brief video of Bella enjoying the Space Station Cat Toy.

This is toy, pet bed and scratcher all in one.

Our cat Anakin uses this as a bed. He LOVES sleeping in boxes, so for him, this was a natural fit.

The Space Station Cat Toy is much bigger than I thought it would be. Iniatially I thought it might be too big for our small condo, but it has not been an issue at all. Seeing as how Anakin is a big cat, I’m glad it’s big enough for him to sleep in.

So far only Bella has used the small scratch pad that is found inside of the “bowl.”

I love that this product serves more than one use too, so all of our cats can find something about it that they enjoy.

Marinater valut

Jackson Galaxy™ The Vault Marinater Cat Toy

This isn’t really a toy – but it’s made FOR cat toys.

The plastic box has a smaller box inside. It also comes with a package of catnip.

To use, simply pour the included catnip (or your cat’s favorite catnip) into the outer sides on the inside of the box. Then place your cat’s favorite toy/toys in the middle box, close the lid and let it “marinate” for a few hours, or days. Whatever you see fit.

The catnip in the vault seeps into the toy, giving it a cat nip scent. If you have cats you know how much they LOVE cat nip. Even if the toy is not a cat nip toy you can make it one by marinating it into the Vault Marinater.

I don’t know how long the cat nip fragrance lasts, so I have replaced it a few times since I received this to review. I also rotate the toys so that different ones smell like cat nip.

These are two new products from the Jackson Galaxy line of cat toys and accessories sold exclusively at PetSmart. Here are a few more examples.

Jackson Galaxy Cat Toys

The toys are available both in stores and online at PetSmart.com. You can also check out PetSmart on social media. All links can be found on their website.

You can also learn more about Jackson Galaxy at JacksonGalaxy.com.

PetSmart would love to give both the Space Station and Vault Marinater to a lucky reader.

Don’t forget your “four-legged” family member on Christmas

Ornament

Our pets are a very important part of our family. So much so we include them on our yearly family ornament – including the fish!

We always get gifts for our pets for Christmas. Our cats have to share the toys and treats (after all, we have 5 cats). Our dog is lucky – he’s the only dog so the dog toys and treats are all for him. I also buy gifts they can all enjoy like new pet beds or pet blankets.

It’s a little harder to buy for a fish. This year I am getting Fishy (our fish Wishy died earlier this year) a new bubble maker.

When it comes to holiday gifts for our pets we always shop at PetSmart. Actually, all of our pet supplies come from PetSmart. Our dog even gets groomed at PetSmart.

PetSmart was kind enough to send our pets some goodies recently. The package included dog and cat toys, collars and sweaters.

Toys

Espn’s new Olaf and Sven squeaky toys from the Disney movie Frozen.

Our cat Bella especially loved a little plastic ball with a bell inside. It came inside a big, clear ornament ball. She went crazy for this toy and had a fun time playing with it. She STILL plays with it. We often hear her in the middle of the night batting it around.

I snapped a quick video of Bella in action with the toy from PetSmart. Please excuse my mess. I was cleaning.

We haven’t had a chance to put on the sweaters yet. It’s been unseasonably warm here in the Northeast. We’re sleeping with the window open because it’s been that warm.

I love how PetSmart thinks about all pets – not just dogs and cats. Check out these adorable things for fish.

PetSmart Fish

If Christmas wasn’t this week I would have stopped by our nearest store and picked up the Santa and Tree for our fish tank. If they still have some available the next time I go I’ll pick them up for his tank for next year.

Don’t forget about your furry (or not so furry) family members this holiday season. They deserve a special treat waiting for them under the Christmas tree too.

To find a location near you visit PetSmart.com. You can also check them out on social media.

Do you gift you pet during the holidays? Does your pet have their own special stocking or personalized ornament?

Feel free to share with me how you celebrate the holiday with your pet/pets.

Frightfully fun Halloween goodies for your pet

Spider

Can you believe that Halloween is almost here? We’re going to “blink” and it will be Thanksgiving before you know it, then Christmas, then 2016!

I love this time of year – the cool weather, colorful autumn leaves and the start to the holiday season. I LOVE to decorate for the holidays and seasons. I have plenty of awesome Halloween decorations which are currently adorning our home.

Have you picked out your costume yet? What about a costume for your child/grandchild? Have you considered one for your pet too?

One thing I miss about taking my kids trick-or-treating was seeing the dogs in costume greet us at the door. We’ve seen some truly creative, and super adorable, costumes over the years.

We used to dress our dog Espn up in costume for Halloween. He used to not mind us dressing him but, but the older he gets the less tolerant he’s become to being dressed up. He’s like my teenagers – they have good moods and bad moods.

Here is Espn sporting some of his costumes over the years. The one wear he’s wearing a football jersey (when he was a puppy) was actually an outfit from Build-a-Bear.

Even our cat Bella has worn some costumes over the years. She even wore the same shirt Espn is wearing in the above photo.

Grumpy-Bella

Almost all of these costumes are from PetSmart. When looking for fun pet costumes, PetSmart is the first place I’d look.

PetSmart sent me a few costumes for Espn to try out. Sadly he’s not been cooperating with me. I guess it’s his old age – he’s a bit grumpy. Even Bella hasn’t been up to it – but in her defense she has not been feeling well (he asthma is REALLY bad lately).

Our cat Anakin was happy to step in and model a few costumes for me.

I have to apologize for the poor quality of the photos.

Pirate Hat

The first photo makes me laugh every time I look at it. He looks scared, but he wasn’t. He was freaking out because the Jester collar has bells on it and whenever he hears bells he wants to play – so he was all excited to have the bells. LOL!

I love the Pirate Hat. It looked so cute on him. There was a matching collar with a pirate tie on it but he kept shaking it off. It was made for a dog with a larger neck so it was hard to get the Velcro closed enough to keep it on him.

PetSmart has a lot of great costumes for your furry friend. They even have a DIY pet costume section. The “Martini” costume is hysterical. If I knew my dog or cats would keep a collar on for that long I would definitely make that costume.

PetSmart Costumes

To see more DIY pet costumes check out this article – DIY costumes for Dogs & Cats.

If you are not feeling creative you can simply purchase a pre-made costume. PetSmart has plenty to choose from.

We have the Alien Rider one. That is the one I am going to use with Espn for Halloween. It simply straps around your pup with Velcro straps. The alien ship even has working flashing lights.

If your pet is totally not into costumes, that is OK. PetSmart has plenty of fun Halloween themed toys your pet will love.

Espn has a cute fuzzy pumpkin that he loves playing with. He’s cute too!

Pumpkin

As for our cats, they have fuzzy pom-pom balls that they love to bat around. Sadly I can’t find any around our home. Chances are they are under the television stand or stove. Things always end up under there.

They looked like this…

Summer fun and safety with your new pet

Our son (who is almost 16 now) with our eldest cat as a kitten, Velcro.

Our son (who is almost 16 now) with our eldest cat as a kitten, Velcro.

If you read my blog on a regular basis you are more than familiar with our “mini zoo,” with could consist of our five cats, dog and Goldfish.

I love our pets. They are very much a part of our family. I cannot imagine a life without them.

The last new family member we adopted was our foster kitten Bella. She’s the one with a variety of health issues. To this day I feel in my heart she was meant to be with us. Had someone else adopted her she might have been put down due to her health issues, or end up living out her life in a cage because she would be considered “un-adoptable” due to her health issues.

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll see plenty of pictures of Bella (she’s the black and white cat). Needless to say I think she has a wonderful life with us. Sure, her vet visits and medications are astronomical, but we love her (and all our pets) and will do anything we can to keep them all happy and healthy.

It’s always exciting to add a new member to your family whether it’s a furry friend like a dog or a cat, or one not so fluffy like a fish or reptile. I adore my fish and care about him but it’s not the same as having a dog or cat (puppy or kitten) who will cuddle up with you, play with you and provide you with many hours of “fuzz therapy.” Fuzz Therapy is how stroking a pet or playing with a pet can make any bad day a lot better. It’s hard to be in a grumpy or sad mood when you are interacting with a pet.

Summertime is a great time to introduce a new pet to your family. Children are home from school which means they can be more “hands on” when it comes to training a pet and acclimating a pet to a new home. Parents are also able to take vacation time to help get a pet adjusted too.

Our now 4 year old cat Bella when she was 1 month old (we had her since she was 1 day old).

Our now 4 year old cat Bella when she was 1 month old (we had her since she was 1 day old).

If you have ever potty trained a puppy you know that they have to go out at all hours of the day and night. I still remember taking our dog Espn out at 2 or 3 in the morning to do his business while he was learning to do his business outside. We did it during the winter months and let me tell you it was cold! In hinesight the spring/summer months would have been better. We were not planning on adopting a puppy when we did. It just happened.

Another great reason to adopt a pet in the summer months is that you can spend plenty of time outside playing with you pet. You don’t have to worry about your little furry friend getting cold.

On the flip side there can be some dangers during the summer months which you would need to teach you pet about. Take for example the swimming pool. Don’t assume your pet will know how to swim should they accidentally fall into the pool. A puppy might be able to doggie paddle but they might not be able to figure out how to get out of the pool. You’ll need to teach your pup how to get out of the pool.

Another concern would be poisonous plants. Make sure your yard is free from plants and flowers that could be poisonous to a cat or dog if ingested. Lilies, Tulips, Azaleas, Oleander, Chrysanthemum and English Ivy are just a few plants/flowers you might have in your yard that can be toxic (and deadly) to your pet if ingested. As a pet parent you need to be diligent to make sure your pet doesn’t have access to these plants/flowers and/or teach them not to chew on them or eat them.

Having a pet is a wonderful experience. I truly believe that pets can add more value to our lives. For me they are also a source of happiness and love.

New from PetSmart and Purina – Muse

Pet-Collage

As a “mom” to five cats, a dog who thinks he’s a cat and a fish who fears the cats (LOL), their health and happiness is a priority to me. I do what ever I can to meet their needs as well as provide them with a loving, care home filled with a lot of snuggles, hugs and playtime.

Having five cats is not always easy. Each cat has an entirely different personality. They are like five mini-people covered in fur with whiskers. They do have some common cat traits (sleeping a lot, loves to get into mischief…), each one is totally different than the other.

Velcro

Velcro – He’s our oldest (and diabetic). He’s afraid of his own shadow and hides most of the day but when he’s hungry – oh boy! – you’ll know it. He’ll meow so loud I think the roof shakes. Even though he’s old he still have a bit of playfulness to him, like chasing after me in the dark on my way to the kitchen, grabbing my ankles and biting them. LOL!

Kitty

Kitty – She’s quirky. She likes to “taste” everything. She’s always liking odd things like the television stand, window, the side of the bathtub, my computer… She also LOVES to eat tape (regular tape). We have to hide it from her. She also enjoys grabbing the stuffed animals out of the kids room (even if they are bigger than her) and drag them out into the living room as if she’s a noble hunter and that was her catch.

Padme 2

Padmé – Paddy is the mommy of the group. She wants to kiss and clean off all the other cats. She’s very loving and caring. She LOVES to snuggle and lie next to you in bed or on the couch. She’s the only one of the cats who’ll put our dog Espn in his place when he chases after them. She will swat him in the face and he’ll roll over and give in to her. He favorite thing to do is play with those scrunchy balls (the ones that make crinkly noises).

Anakin-in-the-Box

Annie

Anakin – He’s the trouble maker, always chasing after the girls. He’s also VERY vocal and will have an entire conversation with you (no kidding). He’s a bit of a comedian and always doing things to make us laugh. He LOVES boxes. It doesn’t matter how tiny the box is – if it’s a box Anakin will fit his 20 pound self inside of it.

Bella 2

Bella – She’s the baby. She’s the one with severe asthma and heart problems. She’s also sweet as sweet can be. My husband refers to her as “princess.” He lets her get away with more than the other cats. She loves to play (especially anything with strings) and her favorite thing is that paper used in shipping packages. She could play with it for hours. Sometimes my husband brings some home from work for her to play with. She even misses me when I go away and seems lost without me.

As you can see, they are all different. They have different personalities, likes and dislikes. Finding foods that they all like is not that easy. We end up buying different foods for them.

Bella is the most picky of them all. She likes something for a while then she won’t eat it anymore. It’s as if she gets bored with it. Therefore we are always giving her new foods. Kitty and Velcro love to try new foods too. Anakin will eat whatever is put in front of him. Padmé is the most pickiest and doesn’t like it when we change foods.

Their health means a lot to me so I prefer to feed them foods that are made with real ingredients – real ingredients I can see too like real pieces of meat and vegetables.

Purina PetSmart Muse

Not too long ago I was sent some samples of a new food from Purina that is sold exclusviely at PetSmart. It’s called Muse.

Just like us, every cat has their own personality and, yes, at times can strut a little cat-itude. More importantly, our cats fascinate and inspire us. That’s why Purina has created Muse, a full mmmmenu of tasty food that is completely cat-centric.

Every Muse recipe is made with natural ingredients and essential nutrients providing your furry friend with the nutrition they need and the great tastes the crave.

The cat friendly flavors Muse offers was inspired by cats. Cats, as you know, are not ordinary (as the case with my cats). Cats are unique and different. Cats are not always easy to please. They will let you know if they like something or not. That is a trait that Muse likes about cats.

I like that the brand let cats inspire the foods that they made. My cats inspire me too. They inspire me to have fun and enjoy the little things in life. You don’t need something spectacular to enjoy life like a big house, exotic vacation or fancy car. My cats prove that when they have a great time with a simple thing like a box and/or a piece of shipping paper. It’s the little thing that make them the happiest. I think people can learn a lot by that.

My cats also inspire me by proving that having some quirks is OK. Being a bit different is not a bad thing (except for when Kitty eats the tape – LOL).

Muse pate

Muse pate

We received some Muse samples and other cat goodies for my cats to try. They have different types of food textures, as well as flavors including pates, foods in broths, chowders and more.

Muse comes in flavors that cats will love including;

  • Grain Free Natural Tuna, Tilapia & Baby Clam Topper Adult Cat Food
  • Grain Free Natural Mackerel & Carrot Adult Cat Food
  • Adult Cat Food – Essential Nutrients, Natural Chicken, Tomato & Carrot, In Gravy
  • Adult Cat Food -Grain Free, Essential Nutrients, Natural Chicken & Tuna, In Broth

There are plenty of great recipes available.

I tried out the Muse food with my cats and they LOVED them. They gobbled them all up as if they haven’t eaten in weeks (they actually graze all day long so they are never really hungry). As a pet mom I enjoyed seeing the real ingredients in their food too.

Muse 1

Muse 2

My cats are enjoying Muse. So much so the last time I went to PetSmart to get some supplies for our fish I picked up more for them. I wish PetSmart was closer so I could offer it to them all the time. It’s OK though since I’m at PetSmart about once a month.

To learn more about Muse please visit www.MuseCatFood.com.

To find a PetSmart location near you visit PetSmart.com. You can also purchase Muse online.

Do you have cats? How does your cat (or cats) inspire you? I would very much love to hear from my readers.

Celebrate Mother’s Day with PetSmart (giveaway ends 5/17/15)

Pets

Mother’s Day is this coming weekend.

You don’t have to give birth to someone to be a mom or a mother-like figure in someone’s life. Take my situation for example. I was raised by my paternal grandparents. They have always been – and always will be – my mom and dad.

Some pet owners look at their pets as their “children.” I have to admit that I do that. After all, my pets are a part of my family, even though I clearly did not give birth to them (wouldn’t that be weird).

Our fish - Fishy (orange) and Wishy (white/orange)

Our fish – Fishy (orange) and Wishy (white/orange)

Some pet parents see their pets as children and take it to the extreme. They dress their pets up, take them on exotic vacations (lucky pets!), feed them gourmet meals and even adorn them with diamonds.

I think most pet parents are more like me. I talk to my pets, I try and spend time with each one individually and I like to get them Christmas and birthday gifts.

Each holiday season I get a “family ornament” where I put all my family members on it. I always make sure to include my pets too – all five cats, our dog and even our fish!

Here is one example.

Ornament

I fuzzed out my human-kids names for their protection. The remaining names are our five cats, dog and two Goldfish.

I sometimes think our pets ARE related to my kids. They often exhibit similar personality traits as my kids.

As it is with your own children, having pets is a year round job that is filled with challenges and a lot of love and joy.

PetSmart wants to recognize all those pet moms who make a difference in the lives of their pets. They were kind enough to send me a box of goodies for both me and my fuzzy family members. We received the following items;

Balls

My cat’s love the bells inside and enjoy swatting them around the floor.

Cat Dental Treats

My cats are crazy for these.

Frisbee

What dog doesn’t enjoy a Frisbee?

Frog & Ball

The little plush frog toy is so cute. My dog loves the ball too but he keeps rolling it off our balcony and “I” am the one who has to “fetch” it. LOL!

Fuzzy

Cats LOVE the fuzzy tails on these balls.

Kong

My dog goes bonkers when I put a treat inside. Even the cats try and get the treat out.

Mice

These mice are beautifully made. My cats love these, most especially our cat Anakin. He’s a “mouse-o-holic.” Ha Ha

Bowls

These bowls are SO CUTE! They are almost too cute to let them get slobbered all over. LOL!

Greenies

Greenies dental treats for both cats and dogs. Oral health is very important to me. If my kids brush twice a day so should my furry children.

NOT PICTURED: Several adorable cat collars from Whisker City (the photo turned out horribly) and a cute Pound Puppy dog toy (my dog had the toy and wouldn’t give it back to me to snap a photo).

My furry family members were not the only ones who received wonderful gifts – I also received a gift card to Spa Envy so that I could get a little pampering for Mother’s Day. I’ll consider that a gift from my pets since they can’t make me a card. 🙂

If you would like to learn more about any of these products, or to find a PetSmart location near you, please visit www.PetSmart.com. PetSmart is also found on social media.
