Craving a delicious ice cream shake? Head on over to SONIC Drive-In

Sonic-Summer-of-Shakes

It’s spring time. I time for the weather to get warmer, the skies to get bluer and the grass to get greener. So far that hasn’t happened yet. Winter is still holding on for as long as it can.

We cannot wait for the weather to get nicer so we can resume the things we enjoy doing such as hanging out at the parks along the Hudson River, visiting the state park, enjoying the afternoon at the zoo, attending baseball games at our local stadium and visits to the ice cream shop.

We love ice cream shakes. I’ve tried to make them at home but they never taste as good as they do when you get them from an ice cream shop.

Most ice cream shops around here only carry the classic vanilla or chocolate. Those flavors are great but sometimes you want something a little more.

How about a Jalapeno Chocolate shake, or maybe a Coconut Cream Pie shake? Personally I think an Oreo Chocolate shake or a Strawberry Cheesecake shake are more my speed. The Jalapeno one is a little too adventurous for me.

Where can you find such unique ice cream shake flavors? That’s easy – your nearest SONIC Drive-In.

SONIC Drive-In offers a total of 25 creamy and delicious shake flavors. There is something for everyone on their list.

Here are just a FEW of the mouth watering ice cream shake flavors available at your local SONIC Drive-In.

Of course they offer the classic flavors like chocolate, vanilla and strawberry too.

“Our team of culinary experts always delivers innovative flavors to make the SONIC experience more exciting, and just like anything else at SONIC, our 25 Shake flavors can be mixed and matched with endless combinations to make sure each guest gets exactly what they want,” said Chef Claes Petersson, vice president of product innovation of Sonic Corp. “Because each Shake is hand-mixed to order, our team members can whip up any flavor the guest can think of. We hope guests will see these 25 flavors as a starting point – a canvas for them to create their own perfect Shake masterpiece!”

Guests are encouraged to get creative and come up with their own creamy concoction; whatever enticing flavors guests are in the mood for, SONIC can whip up a special Shake just for them.

All SONIC Real Ice Cream Shakes are hand mixed and made to order.

We don’t have a SONIC Drive-In close to us, but there is one upstate that we visit a few times a year (mostly in the warmer weather). We enjoy their food and always try to squeeze in an ice cream shake if we’re not too full. Sometimes we specifically stop in just for the shakes.

I really wish we had a SONIC Drive-In near by. I hope SONIC Drive-In will bring one to our area in the near future. That would be awesome.

To make things even sweeter, SONIC Drive-In will offer their yummy real ice cream shakes for half-price EVERY DAY after 8:00 PM from now through the end of summer. Now you see why I wish we had a SONIC Drive-In local to us? We’d visit it almost every week. 🙂

National Back to Work Day & Egg White Options at Sonic Drive-In

Sonic Logo

When I think of Sonic Drive-In I think of mouth-watering shakes (their shakes are SO GOOD!), hot dogs, burgers and fries. The last thing I would think of is breakfast. Did you know that Sonic Drive-in has a breakfast menu? A very yummy one at that.

Sonic recently announced that they are offering an egg white option for all their menu items that include eggs, including their variety of Breakfast Burritos and their popular Toaster Sandwiches.

It is widely known that egg whites are a good source of protein, helping to maintain energy levels throughout the day. Because they contain no cholesterol, egg whites are a good choice for individuals trying to reduce their cholesterol intake. Substituting egg whites for regular eggs in any of the SONIC breakfast items also reduces the total calorie count by up to 60 calories.

I love egg white omelets and often swap out regular eggs for egg whites whenever possible. I knew the next time I went to Sonic I just had to try one of their egg white options.

“We continue to evolve our menu to mirror the preferences of our guests, and many of our guests want light, healthy breakfast choices,” said Chef Claes Petersson, vice president of product innovation at Sonic. “In true SONIC style, instead of offering just one or two egg white options, we deliberately chose to let guests enjoy egg whites in any of our breakfast items, giving even more opportunities for customization and variety. Our guests can lose the yolks without losing a bit of flavor.”

Sonic Menu

We don’t have a Sonic near us but we do near the house we are buying upstate (yeah). On one of our trips upstate to go house hunting we stopped by Sonic so we can grab a quick bite to eat. I chose one of the Breakfast Burritos from their breakfast menu.

Mmmm… It was so good! And very filling. The burrito is HUGE!

I ordered the Super Sonic with Egg Whites. I neglected to tell them not to include the jalapeños. WOW! They really make the sandwich HOT. If you don’t like spicy things make sure to have them omit the jalapeños.

The burrito also included sausage, melted cheddar cheese, potato tots, tomatoes, onions and of course eggs (in this case egg whites).

What would go great with the Super Sonic Breakfast Burrito? A piping hot cup of coffee of course.

I am very picky when it comes to coffee. I’m kind of a “coffee snob”. LOL! I was very impressed with Sonic’s coffee. I honestly thought that maybe it wouldn’t taste that great (more like diner coffee) but I was pleasantly surprised. The coffee was very good – as in coffee house quality. Yummy!

Sonic’s Red Button Roast coffee is made with 100% Arabica beans. It’s also available in five flavors – Chocolate, Caramel, French Vanilla, Hazelnut and English Toffee.

I tried the French Vanilla. It was flavored just right. Not too sweet and not too “vanilla” tasting. The English Toffee flavor sounds good. I am going to try that one the next time I go.

Sonic’s breakfast menu is available all day. That is great news because sometimes it’s nice to enjoy breakfast foods for lunch or dinner. Plus it’s great to know their coffee is available any time you need a bit of a pick-me-up during the day.

The new egg white offering is just one of the many “Better for You” menu items Sonic is offering patrons. It joins their line of Green Iced Teas (made without sugar, artificial colors or artificial flavors) with five new flavor mix-ins as well as their grilled chicken sandwich on a whole wheat Ciabatta bun, packed with 10 grams of whole grains.

“The SONIC menu is all about choice,” said James O’Reilly, chief marketing officer at Sonic Corp. “If you want a big burger with a side of chili-cheese Tots, we’ve got you covered. If you want a lighter snack, we have that, too. With the addition of egg whites to our breakfast lineup and the new, lighter items coming down the pipeline, we’ll have even more choices for our guests in the near future.”

All day on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, SONIC Drive-In is celebrating National Back to Work Day by offering guests half-price breakfast burritos all day.

Going back to work after Labor Day can be frustrating and stressful, so Sonic is doing its part to make it less of a drag by offering half-off breakfast burritos all day. Too bad we won’t be in the area on Tuesday. I would take advantage of the half price sale. 🙂

Have you tried Sonic’s egg white options yet? What about their Red Button Roast coffees? Feel free to share your thoughts.

New freshly brewed green teas at Sonic (gift card giveaway ends 7/12/13)

7101364811818_0675Yesterday was the first time my family and I have ever ate at a Sonic Drive-in. We don’t have one local to where we live, but there is one upstate near where my father lives. Yesterday we happened to be in the area so we decided to stop at Sonic for lunch. I also wanted to try out their new freshly brewed green iced teas that I have heard about. I love green tea, and I also love iced tea, especially in the warmer weather months. I find it very refreshing.

Sonic Drive-in is an interesting concept. You pull your car into one of the parking spots and place your order via the little two-way intercom. You can even pay directly from the intercom which is a cool feature. Your food is then delivered by a Sonic employee right to your car (there are tables if you prefer not to eat in your car). We had two waitresses. One was on roller skates, the other one was not. I don’t know how they can carry the food and beverages while on skates.

I ordered the Sweet Green Tea Ice Tea. They have a diet version but I didn’t want to have a sugar substitute. Actually I would have preferred if they had an unsweetened version. I don’t drink sweetened ice tea.

My Sweet Green Ice Tea came in this cup.

My Sweet Green Ice Tea came in this cup.

The Sweet Green Ice Tea tasted exactly like freshly brewed green tea. I have never had green tea that was cold before so this was a nice change. I usually only drink green tea hot.

Sonic’s Chef Claes Petersson did a behind-the-scenes video where he shares with viewers more about Sonic’s new sweet and green iced teas and well as how well the flavors work together. He even offers tips on how you can re-create your favorite flavor combination at home. Sonic offers consumers a tasty variety of flavors you could add into your green tea ice tea. I opted to have it “plain” since I am already a fan of green tea.

Mmmm….after watching the video I could go for another tall cold glass of green tea ice tea!

While we were there we couldn’t help but pick up some of their delicious desserts after our lunch. I opted for a Coke Float. It was so good! I ordered a small and it was huge! Next time I’ll order the mini version. My husband ordered a medium Sonic Blast and it was huge too.

Now that we’ve had a chance to try out a Sonic Drive-in I’m sure we’ll make it a point to stop there again the next time we’re in the neighborhood.

If you would like to find a Sonic Drive-in location near you visit www.SonicDriveIn.com. You can also find them on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

Sonic would like to give a lucky reader a $25.00 gift card so that they can try out the new Green Tea Iced Teas for themselves. Thank you Sonic!
