She Scribes made Cision’s Top 50 U.S. Mom Blogger’s List!

Breaking News

The other day I received a Facebook message from my dear friend Mitch over at GayNYCDad.com. He told me that I had made the Top 50 Mom Blogger’s list. I had no clue what he was talking about. Thankfully he sent me a link. Of course I just had to check it out.

The link took me to the Cision website. Cision helps companies, brands and public relations firms to find the top influencers in different niches to help them to know who to reach out to for work with campaigns and other projects. For a blogger it’s a very big deal.

The list was complied by by Beth Blanchard. She is an editor at Cision.

Mother’s Day is May 11! To celebrate moms everywhere (and assist with last-minute campaigns), Cision has compiled a list of the top 50 U.S. mom bloggers. Defining influence is tricky business no matter how you look at it, so I chose three concrete metrics as the basis for my list: Cision Digital Reach, Twitter followers and inbound links. Using Cision’s media database, I was able to find over 2,000 U.S. contacts covering motherhood or parenting, and from there, I winnowed it down to mom bloggers with data for my established criteria. Finally, I ranked the blogs by each metric and took the average of those ranks to calculate an overall rating. Congrats to the top bloggers!

There are thousands of bloggers in the United States. I am honored to be a part of this incredible list, especially considering the list was narrowed down from 2,000 U.S. bloggers.

Here I am! :-)!

Thank you Cision! I am beyond thrilled and incredibly honored to be on your list.

Top Mom Blogger – Excellent Resource for Bloggers (Giveaway ends 1/26/13)

Blogging 101

I started She Scribes back in April/May 2008. I actually owned the domain SheScribes.com for many years prior to starting my blog. My original idea with She Scribes was to create a website where women writers could share their articles with companies and newsletters, in hopes of promoting writers and getting them seen by a larger market. Companies often need interesting articles for their newsletter, both off and online. I thought it would be a great way to connect people. “She” of course representing a woman and “Scribes” refers to people who write. So basically it means a woman who writes. 🙂

When it came time to create a name for my blog it made perfect sense to use the name I have already owned for so many years. And thus She Scribes was born.

Originally my blog was started as a way of promoting my home business that I used to have. Everyone told me a blog was a great way to promote your business and gain new customers. Perhaps it is, but not for me and my business. I quickly learned that writing about my business was boring. So I stopped writing business stuff and turned my blog into a more personal blog where I just rambled about day to day life.

Back then I was unaware that companies would want to work with me, or ask me to a brand ambassador. I also never knew I could make $$$ with advertising on my blog. I just blogged for the fun of it.

I wish I knew then what I know now. Perhaps my blog would be a bit better as far as rankings in the search engines, traffic and income. Back when I started there really wasn’t much resources available to bloggers. I think that is because 2008/2009 seemed to be the start of the “mom blogger” niche on the Internet. There was really nothing to go by except pure luck and a little ingenuity.

I would consider myself a seasoned professional when it comes to blogging, but that doesn’t mean for one minute that I am an expert in everything pertaining to blogging. In fact, I think I have a lot left to learn. I know bloggers that started years after I did that shot past me in the blogoshere. Why? Because they tapped into a variety of resources and learned how to optimize their site for SEO, how to monetize their site to bring in viable income, and how to pitch companies and PR professionals to land primo gigs and paid ambassador programs.

Don’t get me wrong, I do know a little about those things, but not as much as I SHOULD. Besides, you should never stop learning. Times change, as well as technology. You always need to be on top of things if you want your blog to be the best it can be.

Thankfully there is now a place where you can find not only the resources needed to become a successful blogger, but also access to expert tips, useful articles and professional training.

The site is called Top Mom Blogger. Whether you are a seasoned pro or a “newbie”, Top Mom Blogger is the site for you. Although it is geared more towards the “mom blog” genre, I feel that the information provided on the site is beneficial to any type of blogger whether you blog about crafts, sports or reality TV. Men could benefit from the variety of great resources and tips found on the site too.

Top Mom Blogger is the brainchild of Trisha, a successful and well known blogger from MomDot.com, and Lynsey, also well known, who writes as MoscatoMom.com.

I had a trial membership there for a month to check it out for myself. Even though I know things the site proved to me just how much I DIDN’T know about blogging. After reading a lot of the articles on the site I was left shaking my head and wondering how I didn’t know about these things a year or two earlier. Things like how much your blog design is really important, how to be inspired to write blog posts even when you are lacking ideas (aka “Writers Block”) and most importantly the right (and wrong) ways to approach companies that you truly want to work with.

To say that Top Mom Blogger was a plethora of valuable information would be an understatement.

I only had a month on the site but I made sure to take notes one some of the key tips that I read about so that I didn’t forget about them. There are a lot of positive changes I would like to make with my blog, and thanks to what I’ve learned at Top Mom Blogger, I know which are the main areas to focus on first and foremost.

My month went by way too quickly. Sadly things have been slow since the holiday season. Once things pick up again and I start making a little $$$ I plan on renewing my membership to Top Mom Blogger. Each and every day I learn about new ways to improve my website, so I really need to keep up-to-date on these changes. Tom Mom Blogger is constantly adding new content that reflects new trends and ideas.

I also want to rejoin so that I have all the information in one spot instead of having to Google it and have dozens of bookmarks. With Top Mom Blogger all the information I need is right there on one website.

If you would like to check out the site visit www.TopMomBlogger.com. You can also check them out on Facebook and Twitter.

Top Mom Blogger would like to offer a lucky reader a FREE 3-month membership to Top Mom Blogger (a $29.97 value). Thank you Top Mom Blogger.
