Traditional hair removal tactics are becoming a thing of the past. Many men and women are fed up with the tedious work that is shaving or waxing. For most people who wax or shave, their hair begins to grow rapidly and the process has to be repeated weekly or even daily. With shaving and waxing there is also the very real possibility of missing a spot or injuring yourself in the process. Many men and women also experience bumps and rashes from traditional methods (this is very common in the Brazilian area.) Shaving and waxing may seem like the more cost-effective option, but spending money on new shave and wax products adds up over time and can be bad for the environment.
With all of these cons many people are choosing a different, non-traditional hair- removal tactic to switch over to. This tactic is permanent hair removal (more specifically IPL hair removal.) IPL stands for intense pulsed light. IPL machines use a broad spectrum of light pulses with a multitude of wavelengths that work to destroy each individual hair follicle. With repeated treatment and consistency, the IPL machine will cause the slowing of hair growth from each individual hair follicle. This means less hair growth weekly and overtime can stop the follicle from growing hair permanently. Who doesn’t want that?
While we highly recommend switching over to IPL hair removal, there are some things to be aware of before diving into the process.
- IPL Machines (On Average) Can Cost you anywhere from $100-$500
IPL machines aren’t cheap. Choosing to buy your own machine is an investment, but it will save you time and money over the years. If you choose to invest in one, make sure the machine is right for you. Some of our favorites come from the brands Exobeauty, Remington, and Braun.
- Hair Removal Takes Time
Treatments must be done consistently (about every 4-6 weeks.) This process will go on for several months and the longer you continue treatment, the better results you will get! Patience is key with IPL hair removal.
- You Will Still Need to Shave or Wax In Between Treatments
The first time you use your IPL machine you will need to shave or wax a day in advance to expose the hair follicle for treatment. In between treatments you will have some hair growth. You can shave or wax to stay completely smooth between treatments if you choose to.
- IPL Machines Work Differently for Everyone
The hair follicle on each person’s body is very different depending on the coarseness of the hair and the pigment in your hair/skin. All of this will determine which machine you choose to use, how quickly the follicle is destroyed etc. It is important to do your research to discover which machine is right for you and read your machines instructions before getting started.
IPL is the future of permanent hair removal. Save yourself the hassle of shaving/waxing weekly and get started on your IPL journey. The results will be so worth it in the end.
