The Shield: Complete Series and More from Mill Creek Entertainment

Are you a “binge watcher?” Can you stop at just one episode of your favorite television series, or do you find the need to watch multiple episodes in one sitting (or complete an entire season in one day)?

I wouldn’t say that I’m a binge watcher, per say. Normally I’m OK watching one episode at a time, but shows like Stranger Things, I will watch the entire season in one or two days. If something is that good, you can’t wait a week to see what happens next.

That is both the good, and bad thing, about having an entire season or series readily available to you, whether it be streaming or on Blu-ray/DVD.

Currently I am watching the entire series of the television show, The Shield. It’s available from Mill Creek Entertainment.

The Shield: The Complete Series comes on 18 discs – EIGHTEEN! I own other complete series from television shows and none of them even come close to having THAT MANY discs. I’m impressed.

The boxed set even have a fake police badge built into the box.

Needless to say I won’t be able to binge watch the entire series in a day or two. At best I am able to watch only a few episodes at a time. There are over 70 hours of episodes in this complete set. Each episode is about an hour (probably 40+ minutes each because there are no commercials). I believe there are a total of 88 episodes.

In addition, the collectors edition, sold by Mill Creek Entertainment, also comes with 10+ hours of featurettes, bonus features, commentary and so much more. So in essence, there is probably over 100 hours of content pertaining to this fabulous drama series.

If you have never seen the series before, or you are not very familiar with it, The Shield is a crime/drama series that stars Michael Chiklis. The series also featured other actors including Glenn Close (female lead for a season), and guest stars like Forest Whitaker and Laurie Holden.

Detective Vic Mackey (Chiklis) leads a Strike Team in the L.A. Police Department to deal with violent and dangerous crimes (gang related, drug trafficking…). Their division is known as the Farmington District, otherwise known as “the Farm.”

Mackey and his team do their best to “follow the rules” and obey the laws, but there are times they use questionable tactics to get the job done. Sometimes they even commit crimes themselves, like helping themselves to things during busts.

Because they tend to do things their own way, the team have a high success rate, which others find very questionable. Some want to find out what is really going on with the Strike Team, whereas others want to use their successes to their advantage.

Not all of the acts committed by the Strike Force can be seen as THAT bad. For example, they let a serial rapist get mauled by a Police dog before calling the dog off. Clearly the rapist deserved what he got (if not more).

Even though Mackey is “tough as nails,” he is a loving and caring father towards his children. His children have no idea what he’s like on the job (totally opposite of the person they know).

I’ve lost track of what episode i’m on. But I have watched a lot of them (certainly no where near 88 of them!). So far I am really enjoying the series. It’s normally not my “cup of tea,” but once I got into it I really liked it and I found myself wanting to watch another episode as soon as I finished one.
