Available today on Blu-ray, DVD and digital, is the family comedy, The War with Grandpa.
The War with Grandpa has an all-star cast include Robert DeNiro, Uma Thurman, Christopher Walken, Jane Seymour, Cheech Marin, and Rob Riggle.
Ed (DeNiro) is getting up there in years. He’s a widower living alone, two hours away from his daughter, Sally (Thurman). Sally feels that it’s best to move her father into her home, that way she can take better care of him and he doesn’t have to be alone. There is just one problem, there really isn’t much room in their home. Sally’s two daughters, Mia and Jennifer, already share a room. There is the attic, but Ed couldn’t handle the extra stairs, and the bathroom is no where near the attic. That leaves just one option – Peter’s bedroom.
Peter loves his grandfather, but he’s not happy about being banished to the attic, where the bats and mice roam. He wants to stay in his room.
Peter can think of only one option – he calls a war between him and his grandpa. The winner of the war gets the bedroom.
In the beginning the pranks they played on one another were silly, but as time goes on, their war becomes more intense.
Who will win this war? Will Peter get his room back and Ed leave to live elsewhere? Or is Peter stuck in the attic? To find out, pick up a copy of The War with Grandpa. Look for it where ever movies are sold or streamed.
This is a funny, family friendly comedy. Even my husband, who is not easy to please when it comes to movies, laughed his way all the way through. Even though some of the pranks were really mean (from a realistic standpoint), it was hard not to laugh at them.
I’m a big fan of DeNiro. He’ll always be Jimmy Conway (Goodfellas) or Lorenzo (A Bronx Tale). As much as I love him in dramatic roles, DeNiro certainly handles comedies just as well. He was terrific in this film. I especially love the expressions on his face.
The children in this film really stole the show. Little Poppy Gagnon, who played Peter’s little sister Jennifer, is super adorable.
The on going feud between the character Steve (Issac Kragten) and his sister, Lisa (Lydia Styslinger) is funny too.
Oakes Fegley, the child star who played the role of Peter, did an excellent job holding his own against a powerhouse star like DeNiro. Fegley also starred in another movie that I really like, 2016’s Pete’s Dragon.
I enjoyed the all-star ensembled cast. It’s always nice to see Jane Seymour show up in films. I swear that woman never ages!
Walken and Marin brought their own comedic touches to their roles in this film too.
The War with Grandpa would make for a great movie night feature.
I watched the movie digitally, so I am not sure about the bonus content (I’m sure there is some). My apologies for that (I normally watch the bonus content).
2020 has been a horrible year for almost everyone. Why not end the year laughing at a fun comedy like The War with Grandpa?
Below is the trailer for your enjoyment. It’s the theatrical trailer. The film is no long in theaters.
