I enjoy watching baking shows on television, especially this time a year with the Holiday Baking Championship and the Christmas Cookie Challenge. Sadly, I cannot bake. I CAN cook. I just can’t bake. I don’t know why. It’s just not my “thing.” I can’t even bake pre-made cookies (the kind you take out of the package and put in the oven). Sigh…
Just because I can’t bake, doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy treats. Although I really shouldn’t enjoy too many treats because I am trying to watch my weight, and ideally, lose some if at all possible.
It’s hard to avoid sweets during the holiday season. They are everywhere! Cookies, cakes, candy, chocolate… eating right during the holiday season is next to impossible, unless you have fantastic will power (I don’t).
What if I told you that you can indulge in a sweet treat that is LESS THAN 2 CALORIES EACH. Not only that, a treat that is sugar-free, lactose-free, gluten-free, soy-free, cholesterol-free, and non-GMO.
Let me introduce you to Tidbits Fun Bites.
Tidbits are bite-sized meringue treats that come in a 40-piece resealable bag, and are available in the following flavors: Chocolate, Mint Chocolate, Cookies and Cream, Cappuccino, Mint Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla. Also, NEW Caramel, Cotton Candy, and Birthday Cake flavors. They also have Keto-friendly and diabetic (sugar free) versions too. The Keto and diabetic versions are only 1 calorie per piece (approx. 40 calories per bag).
A meringue (stock photo pictured above) is a dessert-like “candy” that is normally made from whipped egg whites and sugar. They often resemble “dollops of whip cream.” They are also crunchy.
I love meringues. I buy them from time to time from the grocery store. They are great for when you want something crunchy and/or sweet.
Tidbits are meringues, but they are small in size. What they lack in size, they make up for in flavor. I never knew you could make meringues in such a variety of flavors.
Tidbit was kind enough to send me a variety of samples to try out for myself.
Each bag is ideal for snacking. They are resealable, so you can eat as many as you’d like and save the rest for later.
I received the following flavors:
- Cotton Candy
- Birthday Cake
- Mint Chocolate
- Cookies and Cream
I sampled all of the flavors. Some are really tasty, and a couple of them I wasn’t a personal fan of, but other people in my family enjoyed them. Just like anything in life, not everyone is going to like/dislike the same things. My mom used to always say “one man’s meat is another man’s poison.” I never understood what that meant (as a kid), but when I was a teenager, it made sense to me.
My favorites are the cotton candy and strawberry. In fact, I almost ate the entire bag of cotton candy in one shot. It tastes just like cotton candy!
The Tidbits are small, a little larger than a Hershey’s Kiss. I wish I had a quarter handy when I took this photo (above) to give you a better idea of the size. They are bite size and made to pop in your mouth.
They have a great texture and the same “crunch” as homemade meringues. They also melt in your mouth like meringues you make yourself too.
At only 2 calories each (or 1 calorie, depending on which ones you purchase), you can’t beat this for a great snack option. They are especially great during the holiday season when you want to try to avoid over indulging yourself with other baked (high fat and calorie) goods.
They are a bit pricey, but many better-for-you foods are.
