Finding high-quality grooming products that actually work, and don’t smell like a middle school locker room (eww!), is surprisingly difficult. We’ve all been there, and this would apply to both women and men. You find a scent you love, but the ingredients list look like something from a chemistry final. Or, you find a “clean” product that smells great for ten minutes before completely giving up on you, or ends up smelling too much like “dirt.”
I was recently introduced to the brand TONE. TONE makes men’s grooming products, but I’m sure women can use some of them too.
I was sent some products to review, so I enlisted the help of both my husband and son to be my “co-reviewers.”
Here is the breakdown of what makes this brand special and how these specific products held up under the scrutiny of the men in my house.
What is TONE?
Before we dive into the scents, let’s talk about the brand itself. TONE isn’t just another name in the crowded “natural” market. They’ve carved out a niche by focusing on what they call “functional fragrance.”
What makes TONE special is their commitment to simplicity and transparency. They move away from the harsh synthetics and heavy alcohols found in traditional department store colognes. Instead, they focus on clean, high-quality formulations that are better for your skin and your overall well-being. Their aesthetic is minimalist, their ingredients are purposeful, and their mission is to provide effective grooming solutions that feel elevated but remain accessible.

TONE Coconut Deodorant: The Clean Swap
First up is the TONE Coconut Deodorant. My son took the lead on testing this one.
The Scent: This isn’t that fake, sugary “sunscreen” coconut smell. It’s a sophisticated, creamy, and natural coconut scent that feels fresh rather than tropical. It’s light enough that it doesn’t clash with other fragrances but stays present enough to keep you smelling clean.
Why it’s better for you: Most conventional deodorants are actually antiperspirants, meaning they use aluminum to physically block your sweat glands. TONE skips the aluminum and the parabens. By using clean ingredients, it allows your body to breathe while neutralizing the bacteria that actually cause the odor.
The Verdict: My son found this incredibly easy to use. Some natural deodorants are gritty or hard to apply, but this one swiped on smoothly. Most importantly? It’s long-lasting. He went through his daily routine without needing a “refresher” halfway through the day, which is a huge win in his book.

TONE Woodland On-the-Go Cologne: The Modern Classic
Both my husband and my son gave the Woodland On-the-Go Cologne a spin.
The Scent: Think crisp morning air in a pine forest. It has those deep, earthy wood notes but is balanced by a lightness that keeps it from feeling “heavy.” It’s masculine without being aggressive.
Why it’s a good option: The “On-the-Go” aspect is the real seller here. It’s designed for the man who is moving from the office to the gym or traveling. You don’t have to worry about leaks or bulky packaging.
The Verdict: Both of my co-reviewers agreed that the scent is “nice but simple.” They appreciated that it wasn’t overpowering. You know that guy who walks into a room and you can smell his cologne from ten feet away? TONE isn’t that. It’s a “close-up” fragrance, meaning something that smells great when you’re standing next to someone but doesn’t take over the entire room.

TONE Vanilla Roll-On Fragrance Oil: Subtle Sophistication
Lastly, they tried the Vanilla Roll-On Fragrance Oil. Again, both the guys tried this out to see how the oil format compared to the spray cologne. To be honest, I believe a woman can wear this too. I wear other vanilla scented products, so I know that vanilla is a scent women enjoy wearing too.
The Scent: This is a warm, authentic vanilla. It’s cozy and smooth. Because it is an oil, the scent tends to develop a bit differently on the skin than an alcohol-based spray, often lasting longer as it sinks in.
Why it’s a good option: Fragrance oils are fantastic for people with sensitive skin because they lack the drying alcohol found in most perfumes. They are also much more discrete to apply. You can just roll a bit on your pulse points, and you’re good to go.
The Verdict: The consensus from my husband and son was that this is another “winner” in the simplicity department. They liked the scent (my husband especially loves the smell of vanilla). It’s the kind of scent that makes you smell “naturally good” rather than “heavily fragranced.” You won’t smell like a “bakery” when you wear this scent.
It’s rare to find a brand that everyone in the house can agree on, but TONE managed to do it. Whether it was the reliability of the coconut deodorant for my son or the easy, woodsy scent of the cologne for my husband, the feedback was consistently positive.
The common thread throughout all three products was the balance. Nothing was “too much.” The scents are sophisticated yet simple, the ingredients are mindful, and the packaging is practical for real life. If you are looking to clean up your grooming routine or find a gift for the guys in your life that they’ll actually use, you should check out TONE.
You can browse their full collection and find your own favorites by visiting the TONE website. While you’re at it, make sure to follow them on their social media channels to stay up to date on new launches and more. Your skin (and the people standing next to you) will thank you.
