Attention Tom and Jerry fans! A brand new Tom and Jerry series premieres on the Cartoon Network this coming Wednesday (April 9, 2014) evening at 5:30 PM (ET/PT).
My husband and I are both long time Tom and Jerry fans. We’ve been enjoying the cat and mouse antics since we were children. We even own several Tom and Jerry DVDs.
My family enjoys several shows on the Cartoon Network. Even though my kids are teens they still watch the channel. My daughter thinks Adventure Time is funny. My husband and I also have a few favorite shows that we enjoy watching on the channel.
Now our favorite cat and mouse duo are back and with an all new series.
The Tome and Jerry Show is a fresh take on the famous “frenemies”.
The Tom and Jerry Show will feature two back-to-back episodes. Each episode is approximately 11 minutes long making up the half hour series. The original cartoons were only around 5-6 minutes each.
The series will take Tom and Jerry to fantastic worlds such as a mad scientist’s laboratory and a witches cabin, as well as their suburban home location.
You’ll be surprised to hear that the voice talents of Jason Alexander (Seinfeld) and Simon Helber (“Howard” from The Big Band Theory) are a part of the new series.
I had the opportunity to view two episodes from the new series.
“Spike Gets Skooled” – Tom gets Spike sent to obedience school, and Jerry is left without a protector. When Spike returns, Tom tries hard to get Spike to revert to his old ways. Jerry fights back to make sure that Spike keeps his cool.
“Cats Ruffled Furniture” – Tom is under strict orders to not wake the Witch sisters, but Jerry is set on getting Tom in trouble. When Tom uses the magic spell wand and makes all of the furniture come alive, he must get the help of Newt to make everything go back as it was.
My husband is a probably a bigger fan than I am so I made sure he watched the episodes with me.
We both found the episodes to be funny. They featured the typical slapstick humor that we would expect from Tom and Jerry. Laugh wise my husband and I both chuckled while watching the episodes. They were both funny and we enjoyed the storylines too.
The animation is a bit different than what we expected. Although the cartoon is very bright and colorful, the images seem kind of “flat”. They remind me of animation “cells” before the detail is added in. The new version doesn’t have much details like fur or texture. I’m not saying it’s a “bad” thing – it’s not. I’m just pointing out that the animation style is a lot different than the classic Tom and Jerry many of us grew up with.
Whether you are a diehard Tom and Jerry fan or you’d like to introduce the duo to a new generation, be sure to check out the new Tom and Jerry Show on the Cartoon Network, April 9, 2014 at 5:30 PM (ET/PT). Please check your local TV guide for the channel.
