Valentine‘s day is right around the corner.
My husband and I combine Valentine’s Day with the anniversary of our first date, which is also in February. Rather than spend a lot of money going out to dinner twice, we usually check into a hotel for the night (a little “get away”) and eat at a nice restaurant. I know that doesn’t sound too exciting, but it’s something we look forward to each year.
This year we’ll be celebrating the 27th anniversary of our first date (we eloped eight months later).
My husband and I do go on “date nights” a few times a month, but usually that’s eating out at our favorite local restaurants, or dinner and a movie. Regardless of what we’re doing, I always want to look my best for the love of my life. He sees me day in and day out in my normal workwear or my “knock around the house” stuff (no make up too!), so I like to get dressed up and look my best for him whenever possible.
Whether you are planning a special date night with your significant other for Valentine’s Day, or you just want to look and feel your best, here are some “must haves” worth checking out.
Lavanila – The Healthy Fragrance in Pure Vanilla (Lavanila.com, $48), is the perfect scent for your Valentine’s day date night. Made from Pure Madagascar vanilla, creamy tonka bean, and soft heliotrope blend for a seductive expression of nature. Set the mood with this fragrance.
I received this scent to review.
It’s funny that I received this specific scent to review because for Christmas this past year (2023) my daughter gifted me a bottle of pure vanilla essential oil. It’s what she uses daily instead of regular perfume (she does own perfume). It’s her “go to” scent. She gets compliments all the time using the vanilla essential oil. Even I commented on it from time to time on how lovely it smells. You would think she would smell like a baked good, like a cookie, but she doesn’t.
After she gifted me the pure vanilla essential oil I would wear that daily too. I also received compliments. Even the kids I work with at school would comment on how nice I smelled.
I am OBSESSED with Lavanila. It smells SO GOOD! Don’t tell my daughter but I have been wearing this scent every day (even on days I’m just hanging out at home) instead of the essential oil she gifted me. I will use that oil, but for now, I am madly in love with this scent.
I’ve received a lot of compliments on this scent, even from total strangers standing on line with me at the grocery store, bank and other staff where I work.
This doesn’t smell like pure vanilla. You can tell there is something a bit more special mixed in (probably the tonka bean), but in a great way.
Sometimes I received products to review that I love so much that I end up purchasing them again and again. THIS is one of those products! I fully plan on purchasing this once the bottle I have is finished.
This is a great scent for date night, as well as the office, hanging out with your friends, or even cozying up with your special someone on the couch. This would make a GREAT gift too!

Not only does MyKirei by KAO’s Soothing Peony Milky Lotion (MyKirei.com, $18) hydrate your skin and leave it soft to the touch – it also leaves you smelling amazing. This refreshingly light, clean floral fragrance makes for the perfect date night scent.
I have reviewed products from MyKirei by KAO in the past. I reviewed their adorable soaps that leave designs on your hands (in soap!), such as a paw print and flower. You might have seen them on social media.

I received a bottle of this lotion to review. As far as I’m concerned, you can never have too much lotion in your home… at work… in your car… I have very dry skin year round. I am always applying lotion, especially on my hands.
When I first received this lotion to review I was surprised to see that it’s refillable. One side is the holder (made out of plastic) and in the back you can see the bag that contains the lotion.
I like that it’s refillable. It saves on having to toss out wasteful plastic in landfills. All you need to do is purchase a refillable bag and attach it to the lotion holder. You don’t have to worry about manually refilling the bottle (and risk spilling and making a mess). You just pop in the refill and you are ready to enjoy.
This is a nice, gentle, mild lotion. It’s very creamy and it absorbs into your skin quickly. It’s mad with rice water, which has many great benefits to it. It also has shea butter which is very helpful when you have dry skin.
It’s great for your entire body (not your face). It keeps your skin hydrated. If you need a more intense hydration, you might want to use something different. For example, I have been using this all over my body (arms, legs, torso), but not so much on my hands. My hands are exceptionally dry – to the point of splitting – so I need something a bit more intense on my hands. In the warmer weather months when my hands are not that dry, this lotion would be perfectly fine.
The scent is light. It’s a soft, floral scent.
The lotion holder is available in another color and design too.
