Are you familiar with hemp? Hemp is a plant. It’s a form of canabis, BUT, it doesn’t contain any of the psychotropic properties that marijuana has (THC).
Hemp is a fast growing plant, just like bamboo. It’s a very sustainable plant.
Hemp is utilized in many ways, from medicinal purposes to paper, and from food to bioplastics. It can even be used to make clothing.
i know what you might be thinking – how can clothing made out of a plant be comfortable? I used to think that way myself. I thought it would feel weird, and most especially itchy and uncomfortable on the skin. That is not the case at all.
I was recently introduced to the brand WAMA. WAMA offers underwear, including bras, for both men and women. The underwear is made of hemp. It is organic, eco-friendly, anti-bacterial, breathable, and even has anti-odor properties.
WAMA underwear is available in different styles (boxers, briefs, trunks, bikini, thongs, hipsters, boy shorts and high waisted), and colors.
As a plus size woman, I appreciate that the brand carries plus sizes.
I was sent some underwear to try out for myself. I received to review two pair of high waisted underwear, and two pairs of hipster underwear.
Based on the size chart, I could have easily gone with a size 2X, however, I opted to go a size up because I wasn’t sure how snug they might feel. They do shrink a bit, but only about 5% (depending on how you wash them). If you are in-between sizes, you might want to size up, just to be on the safe side. That is why I opted to go up a size.
For obvious reasons, I am not going to take photos of me wearing underwear. I would not feel comfortable doing that.
When I first received the underwear, I was pleasantly surprised as to how soft they felt. I found it hard to believe that they were made using a plant (hemp). They are also made with organic cotton and spandex.
These underwear are so comfortable to wear. I was worried that they might feel weird or itchy, but that wasn’t the case at all. They are very nice.
I think that they feel even softer after I washed them.
My husband does the laundry (I’ve done the laundry once in the past 26 years!). He didn’t know the care instructions for the underwear (machine wash cold and hang dry. For sustainability and best performance, hand wash cold and lay flat to dry). He washed them like he normally does our undergarments and popped them in the dryer. Thankfully that didn’t ruin the underwear. As I said, they feel soft and comfy.
Trust me, I wouldn’t mind being able to air dry our clothes. I grew up with a clothes line, and my mom used to hang everything outside to dry. We had a dryer, but we barely used it. We live in a condo, and there is no place to air dry our clothing. Items we do need to air dry we have to fling over the shower curtain.
They are quality underwear. They are made exceptionally well. I am super pleased with them.
The underwear comes in a variety of colors. With the exception of the purple color, the colors are very “Earthy” (browns/nudes, green, and black). They do not have any patterns.
As a plus size woman, I find that they high waisted underwear was more comfortable (for me) than the hipsters. I just prefer the cut of the high waisted ones better.
These underwear cost a bit more than other underwear on the market, but you are playing for their ingredients, and the fact that they are organic, eco-friendly, anti-bacterial, breathable, and have anti-odor properties. Pretty much all the other underwear on the market are not made like these. Not only that, they are made very well and I don’t see why these wouldn’t last you a long time.
If you are interested in learning more about WAMA, you can visit the brand online at WAMAUnderwear.com. You can also find the brand on social media. All of their links are found on the bottom of their website.
