What should you wear today?

“Mom, what is the weather suppose to be like today?”

That is a question I hear pretty much every single day – usually twice (once from my son and once from my daughter). Unless you follow the weather reports on a regular basis (which I don’t) it’s hard to say what the weather is suppose to be like.

I always tell my kids to dress in layers. I figured that is always the best route to take. If they are too hot they can always remove a layer or two.

We do watch the weather report every night before going to bed. As you know weather is always changing. Just because Mr. Weatherman says it’s going to be a certain temperature doesn’t guarantee that. For example, some people live in different elevations which can affect temperatures.

My father lives 50 minutes from where we live. His weather is not always the same as the weather where we live, even if the general weather map shows us has having the same type of weather conditions.

What we need is our own personal weatherman who can tell us the weather conditions where we live, not in the general area. That way I can tell my kids how to dress for school without guessing or making the dress in layers.

My son is really into weather. He’s had a weather station that he received as a gift for a long time. It tells a lot of different information such as indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity, but the rest of the stuff really doesn’t matter to him. Knowing the current temperature is great, but it doesn’t help you to know how to dress. Weather can change quickly.

Imagine if you had a weather station that not only told you indoor and outdoor temperatures, but also what to wear for the day?

AcuRite, a leader in time, temperature and weather technology, has available a nifty Digital Weather Station that can provide you with 20 different what-to-wear clothing recommendations so you know how to dress for the day. It’s called the What to Wear Digital Weather Station.

The cartoon character makes it easy for children to understand what clothing they should wear. Adults can benefit from this weather station too because it tells you what the current indoor and outdoor temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure trend, time and date. There is even a graphic that shows you want the weather will be like (sunny, cloudy…).

Please excuse my horrible photos. I had to use my cellphone.

What to Wear Digital Weather Station

The weather station uses a patented self-calibrating forecasting technology to provide a personalized 12 to 24 hour weather forecast.

The weather stations comes with a small sensor that you place outside of your home. There are instructions to tell you where the ideal location would be.

My son has another weather station and I have found that both stations show similar temperatures. His other stations cost a lot of money where as the What to Wear Digital Weather Station is a budget friendly $29.99.

Weather Station

I noticed that the outdoor temperature was a few degrees off. Then I looked at the sensors outside and saw that the sensor for the What to Wear Digital Weather Station was in the sun where as the other sensor for the more pricy weather station was a bit in the shade.

As you can see the indoor temperatures are identical. Both stations also show partly sunny (or would it be partly cloudy?).

The humidity is slightly different between the two but I don’t think a four points makes a big difference.

This is a great kid-friendly weather station and all family members can use it (young and old).

What do you think about the AcuRite What  to Wear Digital Weather Station? Do you think it’s something you could use in your household?
