Did you know that March is Women’s History Month? I honestly didn’t know that until recently. I work in a school, so you would think that the school would be prompting is somehow. I don’t know why prominent women in history are not being taught about and promoted. What a shame. There are so many amazing women that should be learned about by younger generations.
When I think about famous women, names that come to mind include Anne Frank, Hellen Keller, Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart and Marie Curie. When you think about famous women in history, what names come to mind? I know there are dozens of women that have earned their place in history.
There is an interesting new book by Lowey Bundy Sichol that would be a great book to read in honor of Women’s History Month. It’s called Idea Makers: 15 Fearless Female Entrepreneurs.
Here is a brief synopsis of this book.
Entrepreneurship can change your life—and even the world.
Idea Makers shares the incredible stories of 15 women who changed the world through their entrepreneurship. Author Lowey Bundy Sichol presents five industries that women are leading in recent years: food, fashion and clothing, health and beauty, science and technology, and education.
Jenn Hyman brought couture fashion to everyday women with her idea to Rent the Runway. Morgan DeBaun supports Black journalists through Blavity. And Sandra Oh Lin is inspiring kids everywhere with KiwiCo activity boxes.
Readers learn about how the women featured risked their early careers, gave up their salaries, and sometimes even went against the approval of their families to follow their passions and start their own businesses. Today, these women are modern leaders worth billions of dollars and employing tens of thousands of individuals, including Kathleen King (Tate’s Cookies), Christina Tosi (Milk Bar), Payal Kadakia (ClassPass), Alli Webb (Drybar), Anne Wojcicki (23andMe), Sandra Oh Lin (KiwiCo), Reshma Saujani (Girls Who Code), and Jenn Hyman (Rent the Runway).
I have not had the opportunity to read the book yet. I am receiving a copy to review. I plan on showing this to the girls I work with at school. I know a few of them would be thrilled to read this book.
This book is for ages 12+ (or a 7-9 grade reading level). It contains 224 pages.
