School is starting back up soon where I live. That means it’s back to work for me as well, since I work in our local school district.
I work with children (K-6th grade). I am always looking for ways to prompt, and encourage, children to read. Thankfully I have found that many of the children I work with enjoy reading books, but every now and then I do come across what is known as a “reluctant reader.” My son was one of those. He hated to read, and to this day doesn’t read books.
I have found that sometimes finding the right book is all it takes to get a child to read. That is why I’m always on the look out for great children’s books that I can bring to my program and put in our library for my “work kids” to enjoy.
I received to review some titles from Simon and Schuster that I think children will be excited to read. Two of them are based on popular movies, and one will get children excited for Halloween.

Get ready for another spook-tacular movie with your favorite monsters in the next installment of Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania movie series. Relive every monster-rific minute of the film in this novelization that comes with an eight-page full-color glossy insert!
My family and I are big fans of the Hotel Transylvania movie franchise. We were excited to hear that they were going to release another film in the franchise called Hotel Transylvania: Transformania. The movie will be released in theaters on October 1, 2021 (one month from today).
We still haven’t ventured into a movie theater, due to the pandemic. I doubt we’ll be brave enough a month from now, so chances are we won’t see the film until it’s released on digital. Until then, we have the novel to get us even more excited about the film.
If the film is as good as this story, the Hotel Transylvania franchise has another hit on their hands. I actually chuckled in a few parts while reading the book. Yes, I actually chuckled! That tells you how delightful the story is.
If your child is a fan of the movie franchise, or if your child is into funny “monsters” and crazy adventures, then this is the book for them.

Everyone’s favorite baby executive returns to screens this summer in DreamWorks Boss Baby 2: Family Business! There’s a new boss baby in the family in this hilarious novelization about grown-up Tim and Ted re-connecting with their inner children.
We’ve seen the movie when it first came out on Peacock streaming service. I believe the film is now available on other digital platforms like Amazon and Vudu.
If you liked the film, then you’ll enjoy this book. From what I can tell, the book follows the same storyline as the movie, as most novelizations do.
This book is also great for families that haven’t yet seen the movie. We enjoyed the book. My husband also read it (as he did with the Hotel Transylvania: Transformania book). My husband has seen both films as well, so he wanted to check out the books to see if they followed the movies. He has a lot of “down time” at work, so he enjoyed having something to read.
My favorite book is the Peanuts Countdown to Halloween book that I received to review.
(By Charles M. Schulz, ISBN 9781534486096, 7/20/21)
Little ones can count down to Halloween with this adorable collection of thirty-one stories featuring the Peanuts gang—one for every day in October!
The Peanuts gang has always been synonymous with the holidays in my home (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter). NEVER does a holiday go by that we don’t watch their holiday specials (sometimes more than once). We enjoy them all and they are very much a part of our holidays.
This is a terrific book for the Halloween season. Each story is short (only two pages), making this an ideal bedtime story book.
This book might be a fun way to make Halloween less scary for little children who might be worried about ghosts and goblins that come out during Halloween.
The stories are so sweet! I absolutely adore this entire book.
