Has this ever happened to you. You are at some place amazing, like the zoo for example. And you want to check out all the animals, but some of them are hiding off in the distance. If you want to look at them you can either bring along some binoculars, or you can zoom in on your smartphone. In any event, fiddling around with the with the settings and buttons takes away from your viewing pleasure. If you use your smartphone and you want to share your experience with others, you’ll probably spend more time with your phone’s settings than actually watching what is going on right in front of you.
What you really need is something that combines the ease of binoculars with the camera of a smartphone.
Let me introduce you to eyeVue. EyeVue is the perfect “marriage” of binoculars and your smartphone capabilities rolled into one.
eyeVue is a powerful device that transforms your smartphone into an interactive binocular camera. Enjoy sporting and live events with a closer view thanks to eyeVue! The eyeVue’s advanced optics magnify your smartphone’s zoom capabilities, while the digital touchpad helps you keep your eyes on the action. You can also share and Livestream or record. Now you can live in the moment while capturing it too.
I received the eyeVue to review.
EyeVue looks just like a virtual reality headset. Even my husband thought that is what it was. It also reminds me of a View Master in a way.
To use the eyeVue, you need to download the FREE eyeVue app for your smartphone.
The eyeVue comes with a tiny bit of a charge on it. I couldn’t get the eyeVue and my phone to pair up until I fully charged the eyeVue. Then I was easily able to pair the eyeVue with my phone.
Next, side your smartphone in the front part of the eyeVue. There is a “clamp” that helps to hold the phone into the eyeVue. Make sure the front of your camera is facing you, otherwise it won’t work.
Once your phone is in the eyeVue, and the eyeVue is turned on, you should be able to see what your phone is seeing. You might have to movie it around a bit to line everything up properly.
Once your phone is in place, you’ll notice functions around the inside view of the eyeVue. Those functions help you to zoom in/out, record and snap a photo WITHOUT having to do it directly on your phone. The pad on the top part of the eyeVue acts as your phone “screen” so you can control everything with the swipe of your finger. There is no need to stop looking at whatever it is that you are looking at in order to find the controls on your phone.
Hopefully what I am saying makes sense?
For the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to take a photo/video of what the inside of the eyeVue looks like so that you can see where the controls are.
If you go to the eyeVue website, eyeVueLive.com, you can see in the video what the controls look like. Scroll down to the surfer video.
I played around with these several times. I have used them on our balcony to zoom in on birds and other happenings going on outside. The funny thing is that I could “spy” on my neighbors with these because they wouldn’t think they were binoculars or a camera. They look exactly like a virtual headset. For all my neighbors know I’m playing a game. Ha Ha.
I don’t even think I was zoomed all the way in with the above photo.
I did take me a bit to figure out how to use the controls. It’s a different experience sliding your finger around on the top of the eyeVue instead of looking at it and performing the action directly on the phone. I had to practice a lot trying to get used to the controls.
I’ve taken the eyeVue with me to walk around a neighborhood spot (the decaying site of a former institution). I love to take pictures there, but I never really look into the windows to see what could be “lurking” inside. It was cool to be able to zoom in and take a peek inside. It’s scary inside! I don’t know how people go into the buildings to ghost hunt.
We’re going to the county fair later on this week. I was thinking about taking them with me since it’s a beautiful drive and I can get a view of the Hudson River on the way to/from the fair.
I wish I had these a few weeks ago when we went to the Bronx Zoo. These would have been perfect because a lot of the animals were far away. I also wish I had these when we were on a dinner cruise down by Manhattan. It would have been cool to see the buildings and sights up close.
I failed to mention that the eyeVue also comes with a handy bag so you can take it with you where ever you go. It’s lightweight and fits the eyeVue perfectly.
The eyeVue it’s self is comfortable to use. I wear glasses and I didn’t have any issues using these.
The only negative I have for this really is that I have an iPhone that is in a case. It doesn’t fit into the eyeVue with the case on, so I need to remove the phone from the case. It’s not that big of a deal, but I have to put my phone’s case in the eyeVue bag so I don’t end up losing it.
If you enjoy taking pictures and videos, and you also love to see all the action as it’s happening, near or far, then eyeVue would be ideal for your lifestyle.
