I am going to need A LOT of energy for the next few days. With any luck the handyman will be done today (fingers crossed!). If so I’ll FINALLY be able to clean my home from top to bottom and get it back in shape to show off to potential buyers. On top of that I have a zillion other things I need to get done. I need all the energy I can get!
It’s easy to get some energy from coffee or energy products. That is great for a temporary “fix”. If you require sustained energy that will get you through hours of work you are going to need to do something more. You’ll need to eat right, get plenty of sleep, make sure to drink enough water and squeeze in some exercise.
I’m pretty good when it comes to water. I’m hopeless when it comes to sleep (I am a horrible sleeper). Exercise? Ugh. Not me. My only form of exercise is walking the dog. Sigh…
When it comes to eating healthy I do OK but I know I can do better. When it comes to my main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) I think I do fairly well. I’m not much of a breakfast eater but I make sure to eat something every morning.
My down fall is snacking. I usually need a little something mid-afternoon and in the evening. I know I can take an apple, baby carrots, low-fat cheese and yogurt, but sometimes I crave MORE. I’m only human. Sometimes I crave something that is sweet and ‘sinful”. Those are the times I start to look around the kitchen for cookies, cake or candy.
It’s “OK” to snack on those things – within moderation. Always opt for the healthier options first and foremost. Then every now and then you can treat yourself to something that might not be considered good for you.
Another option would be to snack on things that taste indulgent, but don’t make you feel guilty for enjoying them. Snacks like LUNA bars are a good choice. LUNA are whole nutrition bar for women (but men can enjoy them too). LUNA wants you to see snacking in a whole new way.
Earlier this year, LUNA and the Institute for the Future teamed up to release “The Power of Snacking: The Next Decade of Women’s Changing Nutrition” – a 10-year forecast report which examines how women’s snacking behaviors and opinions will shift over the next decade. One key finding we are happy to report is that women in their mid-thirties to fifties will ditch the guilt normally associated with snacking and instead embrace a more positive mindset around the habit as they’ll see snacking as a way to meet both nutritional needs and indulgent cravings.
LUNA offers a variety of options.
- Original LUNA bar: Available in flavors like Blueberry Bliss, Nutz Over Chocolate, Vanilla Almond, White Chocolate Macadamia and Chocolate Peppermint Stick. There are 15 flavors in all. They are high in calcium and folic acid and rich in antioxidants A, C, E. They also contain around 9g protein and 3-4 grams of fiber.
- LUNA Protein bars: Yummy bars in flavors such as Chocolate Cherry Almond, Cookie Dough and Mint Chocolate Chip. They are Gluten Free and good source of Iron and Vitamin D. They also are high in Calcium and Folic Acid. Each bar contains around 12 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber.
- LUNA Fiber bars: Choose from flavors like Peanut Butter Strawberry, Chocolate Raspberry and Vanilla Blueberry. Each bar has 7 grams of hunger-curbing fiber and are only 110-120 calories each. They also contain the ‘Core 4’ combo of Calcium, Iron, Folic Acid, and Vitamin D.
- LUNA Mini Bars: Same great flavors, just in a smaller size. Each mini is only 80 calories and are 70% organic, nothing artificial. They also contain Calcium, Folic Acid and Iron. They area available in Nutz Over Chocolate/S’more and Lemon Zest/White Chocolate Macadamia packages. There are 10 minis per box.
LUNA bars offer more than just a great tasting snack. They are a good source for the things that women need – Iron, Calcium, Folic Acid. Antioxidants, Fiber and Protein. These are things you won’t find in a bag of chips or a handful of cookies.
It’s clear that LUNA bars are a better for you snack option, but how do they taste? If you ask me they taste wonderful! I have sampled a few LUNA bars and I have been very pleased. Not only are they flavorful but they are also very filling and satisfying. A LUNA bar and some water or a glass of milk if the perfect snack combination that will not only settle your cravings but also keep you full until your next meal.
I haven’t tried all of the flavors (yet) but I have tried a few. My favorites are the chocolate based ones. Mmm!
LUNA bars can be found at grocery stores, convenient stores, drug stores and other retail locations. Not all flavors and varieties are available at all locations.
