I love walking in stores these days and seeing all the fall/autumn decorations. It’s a wee bit too early to think about Halloween, but I don’t mind looking at Halloween things either. I ♥ to decorate for the different holidays and seasons. In fact I have a nice assortment of NEW decorations I’ve purchased over the past few days. I have a passion for decorating.

The fall/autumn is my favorite season. I love the cool, crisp weather and knowing that holiday season is upon us (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years). There is also a downside to this time of year (and the winter months) aside from the weather – COLDS! You can get colds and the flu year round, but they are more prevalent in the colder weather months.

I don’t mind a minor cold. I can deal with the coughing and feeling “blah”. What I can’t handle is being stuffy. I hate being stuffy! Even now I wake up stuffy some mornings (which triggers a headache). Other times I wake up in the middle of the night unable to breath from one side of my nose and having to roll over to the other side so I can breathe again.

A few years ago I tried a nasal spray for the first time. Wow! What a difference that made. Not only does it help to quickly un-stuff your nose, it also helps to moisten your nose and make you breathe better and easier.

I’ve heard you can get addicted to nasal spray. For that reason I am very careful about what I let my family use. I don’t want my kids using anything that has a potential to be addicting.

ARM & HAMMER™ has a nasal spray that is not only non-addicting, but can also flush, irrigate and moisturize your nostrils. I have never come across a spray that can do all that.

Arm & Hammer Simply Saline

ARM & HAMMER™ sent me some of the products to try out. I received a large (giant size!) bottle of Simply Saline nasal relief spray. First and foremost the size is awesome! This is not a product where you’ll use it four or five times and be done with it. You can get A LOT of usage out of just one bottle. The amount of usage would depend on what you use the Simply Saline spray for and how often. For me, I have been using it at night before I go to bed to help moisten my nostrils and to help keep me from getting congested during the night. So far, so good. It’s been a huge help and I noticed the difference almost immediately when I started to take it.

I can’t prove it scientifically, but I do think using the spray every night before bed has helped me to get a better quality of sleep at night. I am no longer waking up in the middle of the night having to roll over to “un-stuff” myself. I like I am getting a decent night’s sleep.

Aside from using a product like ARM & HAMMER™ Simply Saline to help you breathe easier, here are a few other tips for you.

Keep your home clean.

Dust, dander and other debris can build up quickly in your home. Especially if you have multiple people and/or pets in your residence. Keeping your home clean, dusted and vacuumed will help to reduce or eliminate dust, dander and other debris which can effect your breathing.

Reduce your use of chemicals.

Some chemicals, such as the kind you might find in an air freshener, household cleaner or even a candle can release irritants into the air causing you to have breathing issues. Instead of using these kinds of products opt for more natural, non-toxic, “green” cleaners and air fresheners. Try burning soy candles instead of traditional candles too.

Open your windows.

I have read that opening your windows EVERY DAY (even in the winter) for at least 15 minutes is a great way to rid your home of contaminated air and replace it with fresh air. It try and do this every day.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), air in most homes is up to five times more contaminated than outdoor air. Opening your windows for 15 minutes a day can help to filter out the contaminants that may be present in your home, including radon.

Air Purifiers

Not all air purifiers are made the same, so if you are considering using one in your home be sure to do your research and read reviews. We have used a few over the years. Some worked great and others were a waste of money.

Sometimes even taking a warm shower or enjoying a piping hot cup of tea can help you breath easier too. I know when I’m feeling stressed I tend to breath heavier. Sometimes all it takes is a hot cup of tea, snuggly blanket and a good movie is enough to make me feel calm and relaxed. And when you feel that way you breathe a bit easier too. 🙂

Being cognizant of the products you use in your home can help you to breathe easier too. Take for example kitty litter. If you have a cat there is no doubt you have experienced the “dust cloud” that occurs when you are replacing the litter.

We have a cat with severe asthma. She has to take an inhaler through a special mask 1-2 times per day. We have no choice but to keep dust at a minimum, especially when it comes to the kitty litter. We cannot afford for her to kick up a dust cloud every time she uses the box because it would put her at risk for an asthma attach. That is why we only use litter that produces very little dust.

  7. The A&H laundry detergent does a good job and it’s not too expensive, so I like it and buy a bunch when it goes on sale.

  55. My favorite is Arm & Hammer Washing Soda. It comes in a large box at a better price than their baking soda. It is coarser and meant for laundry only. I love the clean smell it gives laundry and it is a natural product.
