I’m almost done with my Spring cleaning. I still have a few things here and there I need to do, but for the most part I’m done.
One thing I did this year that I don’t normally do is Spring clean my kitchen cabinets, tossing out old, scratched and useless cooking utensils, pots, pans and miscellaneous kitchen gadgets.
I do have brand new cookware that I recently received as part of another campaign I’m working on. I’m good as far as pots and pans are concerned. What I really need is new flatware. Our flatware is a hodge podge of other flatware sets we’ve purchased over the years. Hardly any of the pieces match. What I want to do is toss them all out and replace them with brand new matching flatware.
I headed off to Kohl’s to see what they had. I was in luck when I went because a lot of their kitchenware products were on sale, including products from the Food Network collection.
Did you know that Food Network has their own line of pots, pans, kitchen utensils, tablecloths, kitchen decor and even flatware?
I checked out the Food Network flatware that my local Kohl’s had. Sadly they only carried two different styles, neither of which appealed to me. They do have several options on the Kohl’s website so I’ll have to go back on their site and see which one I like the best.
While I was there I thought I’d check out other pieces for my kitchen from the Food Network collection.
One thing that jumped out to me was their line of colorful kitchen utensils (spoons, spatulas…).
I love the vibrant colors.
The display gave me a couple of ideas – I need to replace the utensil holders in our kitchen and my kitchen needs some color.
We had two small containers for our kitchen utensils. The problem was that the openings for each was too small to accommodate our utensils so most of the time they would fall out or we couldn’t even fit them inside and we’d have to rest them behind the container against the wall. It didn’t exactly look nice. Plus it made grabbing the utensil that you needed a mess because when you pulled one out others would fall out too.
As you can see we used a small “milk” container and a mug to hold everything.
I really liked the stainless steel holders that the Food Network utensils were in were for display only. However I did find one that I really liked. It’s metal and has a wide opening to accommodate all of our utensils.
I like the little drainage holes on the bottom too in case you put away a utensil that is not 100% dry.
It’s hard to tell from the photo but the Food Network utensil holder has a wide mouth and can hold a lot of utensils, even ones with odd handles.
Over the year I am going to try and replace our current utensils with new, colorful ones like the ones I saw at Kohl’s.
I also need some color in our kitchen. When we put our place on the market two years ago we painted things neutral colors (aka boring colors!). Now that we gave up trying to sell our place I can hang pictures and artwork back on the walls and paint the rooms colors that I want.
When I was at Kohl’s I noticed that Food Network has A LOT of colorful things for your kitchen, not only the utensils but also serving pieces, tableware, and decor.
I LOVE the colors!
Green is my favorite color, however the blue was really standing out to me too.
I noticed that they had the creamer cows (cow shaped cream/milk dispensers). My mom had two of them when I was growing up – a realistic looking one and an all white one. I have always wanted to have one for my kitchen.
I didn’t find an all white one but I did find one in the green color that I like so I picked it up along with a milk bottle shape container in the same color. I plan on using the container as a vase to hold a single flower (or maybe two).
I also picked up one of the beautiful bread baskets. I plan on using it both for break and as a centerpiece on our table (I plan on filling it with realistic looking fresh fruits).
I like how they add a pop of color to my kitchen. I’m so inspired by the color that I am thinking about painting our kitchen a complimentary color.
The photos don’t do the color justice. It’s a lovely shade of green.
