With the upcoming release of the new version of the Lorax movie. Warner Home Video has released the Deluxe Edition of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, the original version. It will be available on February 14, 2012. The Blu-ray combo pack will include both the Blu-ray and DVD editions of the movie plus an Ultraviolet digital copy. The release will also include two bonus animations, Butter Battle Book and Pontoffel Pock & His Magical Piano.
If you have never seen the movie, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, here is a brief description of the film.
A face-less business man name the Once-ler drives through the forest and spots all the beautiful and colorful Truffula trees. He realizes that the Truffula tree can be used to make a lot of things, includin a versitile garmet called a Thneed. The Once-ler sets up a factory in the middle of the forest and starts to cut down all the Truffula trees in sight, bringing them to the brink of extinction all for the sake of making a profit. Not once does he think about the creatures of the forest and what will become of them if there are no more Truffula trees.
One of the forest creatures, the Lorax, acts as the voice of all the forest creatures. He tries to get the Once-ler to see the damage that he is doing. The Once-ler does not heed the Lorax’s warning and soon finds that the forest is bare and totally void of life and trees.
Will the Truffula trees become extinct or is there hope for regeneration? And what will become of the forest creatures? Will they die out and go extinct too, or can they find a new place to live and thrive?
Here are two clips from the movie. I’m sorry that I was unable to embed them into this post.

My husband is not a fan of the movie. He finds it to be incredibly depression. While it is very sad, I think that the movie also gives viewers hope – hope that the forest can some how find a way to survive and renew it’s self.
It was nice to see the original movie again. I haven’t seen it in a very long time. To see it on Blu-ray was amazing. The colors were so vivid. They seemed to pop right off the TV screen!
I love the short animations that are also included in the Blu-ray. I have never seen, or heard of them before. I especially loved Pontoffel Pock & His Magical Piano. There are a lot of silly names in the story, typical of Dr. Seuss. Plus I love the idea of a magical piano that can transport you where ever you want to go.
I liked the Butter Battle Book too, but not as much as Pontoffel Pock & His Magic Piano. The Butter Battle Book, to me, was a bit to “dark” and “deep” and not as whimsical as most Dr. Seuss stories. Its the story of two feuding sets of creatures – The Yooks and the Zooks. The Yooks like ot each their bread with the butter side up which the Zooks like to eat it with the butter side down. And because of this they are at war with one another.
I would have preferred another story included in this Blu-ray set rather than the Butter Battle Book. That is just my opionin. Dr. Seuss has so many fun and whimsical stories to choose from.
Look for the Blu-ray and Deluxe Edition of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax where ever movies are sold.
