I know that it might seem silly to post about a movie that is not set to be released for almost a year. I’m actually super excited about this film and I wanted to put it on your “radar” so that you know that this film is in the works.
The film is called Frozen. It will be in theaters November 27, 2013. It will be released in Disney Digital 3D.
Frozen is an adaptation of the fairytale The Snow Queen, written by Hans Christian Anderson. Hans Christian Anderson has given us such wonderful classic stories such as “Thumelina”, “The Ugly Duckling”, “The Princess and the Pea” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. He also wrote a story that was turned into a classic, and very loved, Disney feature animation film. Do you know the name of that film? The answer can be found at the bottom of this post. 🙂
When I was out on the West coast in September I was at the Walt Disney Animation Studios. I had the opportunity to see a few of the storyboards for the film, as well as some conception art. Words that come to mind to describe what I saw include stunning, beautiful and majestic.
Here are more details about the film.
Frozen

From the studio behind 2010’s Tangled and this year’s Wreck-It Ralph, Walt Disney Animation Studios presents Frozen, the coolest comedy-adventure ever to hit the big screen.
When a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, Anna (voice of Kristen Bell), a fearless optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff and his sidekick reindeer Sven on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell. Encountering mystical trolls, a funny snowman named Olaf, Everest-like extremes and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.
The film is directed by Chris Buck (Tarzan, Surf’s Up) and Jennifer Lee (screenwriter, Wreck-It Ralph), and produced by Peter Del Vecho (Winnie the Pooh, The Princess and the Frog). Featuring music from Tony winner Robert Lopez (The Book of Mormon, Avenue Q) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (In Transit).
Here is the first released piece of conception art for the film. It looks so cool! (no pun intended… well maybe a little. LOL).
Keep in mind this is conception art. This is not an actual image from the film. It’s just an image that they are working on for the film. This one image might possibly be animated and turned into a 3D scene if they opt to use it in the film.
If you would like to keep up to date on this film you can follow it on Facebook, www.Facebook.com/DisneyFrozen.
To answer the above question, the Hans Christian Anderson story that was turned into a beloved Disney animated feature film is The Little Mermaid.
