I have been looking forward to seeing Disney’s Planes ever since I learned about it. My husband and I even saw a trailer for it when we were at the movie theater long before the film was released. The first time my husband saw the trailer he mentioned how the characters looked a lot like the characters from the film Cars. My family and I LOVE Cars so my husband commented on how we need to see the film when it’s released.
The characters in Planes are very similar to those in the film Cars, but the storyline is completely different.
Planes stars the voice talents of Dane Cook, Teri Hatcher, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Cedric the Entertainer, Brad Garret, Stacy Keach, Sinbad, Anthony Edwards, Val Kilmer and John Cleese.
Dusty is a crop duster plane who dreams of being something more. Dusty is a kind plane with a big heart. He also has a major problem that planes should not have – he’s afraid of heights! But that doesn’t stop him from trying out some fancy high flying moves while working.
Dusty and his friend Chug qualify for an upcoming race called Wings Across the World Race, even though all his friends think he’s crazy. Dusty doesn’t qualify because he only placed 6th.
Just when he thinks his dreams are over Dusty finds out that due to another plane being disqualified he’s now in 5th place and a part of the race.
Now Dusty finds himself in the big leagues with high flying, fast planes. He now has to compete in many “legs” of the race. Along the way he meets with other planes, makes new friends (and enemies!) and he even falls in love.
Will a little crop dusting plane who is afraid of heights win a World Race against more skilled fliers? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Disney’s Planes, now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download.
Bonus features include;
Exclusive Musical Scene: Franz’s Song
Klay’s Flight Plan Director Klay Hall and his sons spend some time learning about planes and aviation. Klay fulfills a lifelong dream when he gets to fly in one of the planes.
Deleted Scenes Storyboard scenes that did not make it into the final cut of the film.
Meet the Racers Short featurettes on all of the racers in the competition.
Top 10 Flyers Featurette on real-life fliers.
Planes is a lot like Cars, so it should appeal to Cars fans. I enjoyed the film, maybe not as much as Cars, but it was still fun and entertaining. The characters are likeable and the landscapes are amazing (it almost looks real!). I LOVE the scenes in the sky and across the landscape. Kudos to animators for an excellent job.
I think it’s possible they could make a squeal to this film, just like the did with Cars. Maybe they can make a Cars meets Planes film?
My kids didn’t watch the film with us this time around, so I don’t have their feedback. My husband liked it, but he wasn’t overly impressed.
Here are a few clips from the film AND some great goodies that you can download, print out and enjoy with your family.
The above is a bonus clip that was deleted from the film. Below are some tips on traveling, which is great considering a lot of people travel during the holiday season.
Check out these fun activities too!

My sons wanted to see this but never got the chance. I like that Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards from Top Gun are in the voice cast.

We saw this movie this summer and loved it! I really liked that it was about never giving up on your dreams. This is one I will probably pick up for the family for Christmas.
