Did you know that today, October 14th, makes the 85th anniversary of the first volume of stories A.A. Milne published about our beloved Winnie the Pooh and all his friends of the Hundred Acre Woods? The first book was published in 1926. Milne’s second book, The House at Pooh Corner, was published two years later. Both books were written by A.A. Milne and illustrated by E.H. Shepard.
Both books feature a boy name Christopher Robin. That character was based upon A.A. Mine’s real life son, Christopher Robin Milne.
Christopher was given a plush teddy bear he named Pooh. After visiting the circus and becoming fascinted by a circus bear name Winnie, Christopher renamed his cuddly plush friend Winnie the Pooh.
Christopher has a fantastic imagination. He could play for hours with his toys and together with his father, A.A. Milne, they would create the most wonderful stories together. A.A. Milne thought the stories would so inspiring and clever that they should be shared with others. He wrote them all down and turned them into the book, Winnie the Pooh.
There really is a 100 Acre Wood too. It’s actually a Five Hundred Acre Wood in the Ashdown Forest in East Susses, England. A.A. Milne lived with his family just North of the Ashdown Forest and the Five Hundred Acre wood in a place called Cotchford Farm in the town of Hartfield.
On October 25, 2011 the most recent Winnie the Pooh movie will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download. I was fortunate to to view some clips of the movie. From that day on I was anxious to see the movie in it’s entirety. As you know taking the family to the movies can be an expensive undertaking. I was sad that I missed the movie on the big screen but I knew the movie would be released on Blu-ray and DVD eventually (thankfully!).
You can read all about my special Winnie the Pooh adventures at Walt Disney Studios here, https://www.shescribes.com/2011/07/deep-in-the-hundred-acre-wood-where-christopher-robin-plays.html.
I FINALLY had the opportunity to see the movie. I felt like a little kid opening up presents on Christmas morning. I was even singing along to the opening Winnie the Pooh theme song (much to my daughter’s dismay…LOL!).
Winnie the Pooh features all the beloved characters including Eeyore, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit, Tigger, Christopher Robin and of course Winnie the Pooh.
Here is the movie’s trailer.
In the newest adventure Pooh wakes up to find that he has a very rumbly tummy. He’s hungry and there is not a drip of honey to be found in his House at Pooh Corner. So he sets off to visit his friends because he knows his friends will take care of him. The first friend he visits is Eeyore. I wish I knew why Eeyore was always so unhappy. He’s so cute and lovable. I just think he needs a hug.
Eeyore is more blue then usual because he lost his tail. Being a good friend Pooh offers to help Eeyore find a suitable replacement. The pair meet up with Owl and together they arrange to get everyone together to help out their friend Eeyore.
The friends have a contest to see who can find the best tail for Eeyore. The winner gets a pot of honey. Being a hungry old bear Pooh wants to make sure that he wins.
Later on in the day Pooh stops by to visit Christopher Robin only to find a sign with writing on it. Since Pooh cannot read he takes the note to Owl. According to Owl Christopher Robin was taken by a monster name “Backson” (actually the note read “back soon”).
Worried for their friend Christopher Robin the friends set up a trap for the Backson monster, only to have it backfire on them. The only one who can save the day is a very scared little Piglet.
Will Piglet find help for his friends? Will they find Christopher Robin before the imaginary Backson monster takes him away forever? Will Eeyore find a replacement tail? And what about poor Pooh. Will his rumbly tummy ever find any honey?
To learn the answers to these questions you’ll need to pick up a copy of Winnie the Pooh on Blu-ray and DVD on October 25, 2011.
I am in love with this movie! I loved every moment of it from start to finish. I think my husband and I laughed more then our kids. We especially like the part where the friends are trapped and Piglet is trying to rescue them.
This is a sweet and innocent movie. It’s not in 3D (it’s done like the original Winnie the Pooh movies), there are no elaborate musical numbers, no over the top special effects. It’s just a sweet, wholesome, feel good, family friendly movie. It’s a delightful film that is sure to put the smile on the faces of Pooh fans, both young and old. How can you not feel happy after watching a Winnie the Pooh movie?
If you pick up a copy of the movie to add to your family’s movie collection before to watch all of the end credits. There is plenty of fun animation going on literally to the very end. I found the end really funny too (I won’t give away the secret).
As with most Blu-rays there are added bonus feature, all of which are worth watching. I especially liked the bonus that told you the history of Winnie the Pooh and how his character came to life thanks to A.A. Milne.
Deleted scenes are always fun to watch too. There were a few deleted scenes and some scenes that were originally longer but had to be reduced to fit the film’s time frame.
You will find two short animations on the Blu-ray. One is a little bit of the animated move Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree where Winnie the Pooh pretends to be a little black rain cloud to try and sneak some honey from the hive. He sings the song “I’m just a little black rain cloud” too (I love that song!).
Another short is called the Ballad of Nessie which is loosely based on the Lock Ness Monster. I thought it was cute. I love the character of McQuack. He’s cute!
The DVD bonus features only include 3 of the 5 deleted scenes and both of the short animation clips.
I am so happy that I finally had the opportunity to see the movie. 🙂 ♥
