Planet Fred (www.Planet-Fred.com) sell and eco-friend, kid safe, adorable plush bear called Bamboo Bears.
Made from luxurious natural bamboo and organic cotton fleece in vibrant shades of pink and blue, BamBoo Bears bring a stylish new twist to the eco-friendly toy market.
BamBoo Bears stand 13 inches tall, and every inch has been designed with the environment and safety in mind. In addition to their super-soft bamboo fleece (a material that is often compared to cashmere) the bears have corduroy ears, tails and paw pads made from naturally grown hemp and organic cotton. Bamboo fabric requires less dye than cotton and produces much more vibrant colors. Only safe, low environmental impact, cold water dyes are used on BamBoo Bears. The bears’ stuffing is made from renewable, hypo-allergenic corn fiber. With embroidered faces and a unique modern design, BamBoo Bears are the perfect companion for kids of all ages.
“BamBoo Bears design is based on my childhood teddy bear, Fred, who has been with me since I was an infant. I am expecting twins and want my children to have super-soft cuddly companions like Fred, but created with natural materials in an eco-friendly way,” said Sandra Litsinger Lippard, the creator of BamBoo Bears. “Bamboo has inherent anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties, and bamboo, hemp and organic cotton are grown without fertilizers or pesticides. Bamboo plants absorb 35% more carbon dioxide than cotton and can be harvested every three to five years without replanting, thus preventing deforestation.”
Through a program with the National Arbor Day Foundation, Planet Fred will plant one tree in US forests for every six BamBoo Bears sold. That is awesome! I love it when companies “give back” to the community, especially our environment.
Planet Fred sent me a cute pink Bamboo Bear to review. I like the generous size of the plush. It’s ideal for both babies, toddlers and small children. It’s not too big and not too small.
The facial features and sewn into the bear very well and there is no way a child can pull them off. Actually the facial features is the only thing about the Bamboo Bear I am not fond of. Don’t get me wrong, it’s cute and all, but I think they could have made a cuter face for the bears. Or maybe made the eyes and the nose round instead of square and rectangle. These faces look computer generated and “robotic” in a way.
The Bamboo Bear is very soft and plush. It’s squeezably soft and sure to be a bedtime companion for many boys and girls to snuggle up with at night.
Whenever I review a toy I make sure to tug on it to see if it comes apart easily or is made poorly. I am happy to say that the Bamboo Bear is made very well. I yanked on her arms and legs and they remained intact and didn’t loosen in any way.
I like that this bear could easily be tossed in a washing machine if it got soiled. Not all plush toys you can do that to without ruining it. I have faith that the Bamboo Bear would do well in the washer, or even hand washed. Instead of a dryer I would let the Bamboo Bear air dry to conserve energy.
Currently Planet Fred offers the bears in Pink-a-Boo Pink and BamBoo Blue. I think these would make a sweet baby shower gift or new baby gift. I wish these came in a neutral color, like yellow or green, so that they could be given as a baby shower gift even if the gender of the baby is unknown.
