I am a HUGE animal lover, or should I say lover of all creatures great and small. I’m the kind of person who won’t kill an insect if there is a way to capture it and set it free. Except brown spiders. I have “issues” with certain spiders (my mom died from complications of a spider bite).
I have a big heart when it comes to all God’s creatures. I’m always thinking about how my actions impact our environment and the creatures that share our planet with us.
I love Whales. They are magnificent creatures. I once went Whale watching off the coats of Massachusetts back in the early 90’s. I got to stand just a few feet above a Basking Shark (it was HUGE!) and I had the opportunity to see several Whales. It was amazing! One day I hope I can take my family Whale watching. I have talked about it for ages. I really want my children and my husband to have a chance to see Whales up close before it’s too late. Who knows how much longer Whales will roam our oceans.
There is a new movie coming to theaters on February 3, 2012 called Big Miracle. Have you seen the trailers for it yet?
Here is the trailer. Check it out. It actually makes me tear up. Those of you reading this via e-mail will have to visit my site to see the trailer.
WOW! I know it’s based on a true story. I’m afraid to Google it because I don’t want to know if any of the Whales died. I want to go on thinking they made it out alive.
Here is the movie’s synopsis:
Inspired by the true story that captured the hearts of people across the world, the rescue adventure Big Miracle tells the amazing tale of a small town news reporter (John Krasinski) and an animal-loving volunteer (Drew Barrymore) who are joined by rival world superpowers to save a family of majestic gray whales trapped by rapidly forming ice in the Arctic Circle.
Local newsman Adam Carlson (Krasinski) can’t wait to escape the northern tip of Alaska for a bigger market. But just when the story of his career breaks, the world comes chasing it, too. With an oil tycoon, heads of state and hungry journalists descending upon the frigid outpost, the one who worries Adam the most is Rachel Kramer (Barrymore). Not only is she an outspoken environmentalist, she’s also his ex-girlfriend.
With time running out, Rachel and Adam must rally an unlikely coalition of Inuit natives, oil companies and Russian and American military to set aside their differences and free the whales. As the world’s attention turns to the top of the globe, saving these endangered animals becomes a shared cause for nations entrenched against one another and leads to a momentary thaw in the Cold War.
It is rated PG.

The movie is all about people who made a big impact on the lives of the Whales (and ultimately the community who rallied to rescue them).
Most of us know someone who is extraordinary. Someone who goes above and beyond to help those in our community.
Do you happen to know an extraordinary teenager?
Universal Pictures’ Big Miracle has partnered with The Huffington Post to launch a very special Teen Impact contest!
The Huffington Post Teen Impact contest was designed to recognize innovative, influential young people (ages 14-18) who support the causes that mean most to them.
Eligible teens should visit http://www.HuffingtonPost.com/News/Teen-Impact and submit a blog post about their cause for a chance to win a charity donation of $1,000, plus a trip to New York to attend a special screening of the film Big Miracle hosted by Arianna Huffington.
Please encourage a that very special teen in your life to enter if they’re making a difference in a big way.
Entries must be received by January 15.
I’m currently trying to help my kids work something out to help get shoe donations for a local charity. Sadly we won’t be able to accomplish it before this contest ends. Maybe next year we can enter.
