As a parent I worry about the safety and well being of my family. It took me a long, long time to feel comfortable enough for my kids to do things like walk the dog (far enough where I couldn’t watch them from the window) or to/from the bus stop (about 1/4th of a mile up the hill).
Even though my daughter is in college and my son will be entering his senior year of high school, I still worry about them. I make sure to have them check in with me often and I use the Find My Phone app to make sure they are where they are supposed to be. Maybe that makes me an overly paranoid parent, but so be it. Their safety is a major concern.
I worry about all the things that could happen to them – kidnapping, rape, murder… even human trafficking. That is a legitimate problem in the world. Thousands of children are being kidnapped, sold and bought into slavery and the sex industries (porn, prostitution…). It’s not just something that happens in other countries – it’s happening right here in the Unites States too – possibly in your own neighborhood.
There is a movie that is now available on DVD that explores on scenario where children are sold at auction and forced to do unimaginable things. The movie is called Caged No More.
Caged No More stars Loretta Devine, Kevin Sorbo, Allan Powell, Cassidy Gifford (Kathy Lee & Frank Gifford’s daughter), Anthony Evans, Abigail Duhon, Dallas Lovato, Cynthia Gibb, Christos Vasilopoulos, George Kostru and Debra Wilson.
In Caged No More, Miss Aggie (Devine) happens across her employer (Lottie) who committed suicide. Before she dies she tells Miss Aggie a cryptic message that Miss Aggie doesn’t understand.
When this is happening, Lottie’s’s oldest daughter Skye, was in the U.K. attending college. Her husband, Jack, was visiting with Skye along with their youngest daughter Elle. Or was he?
After doing some research Aggie feared that Jack might have taken Elle some place to sell her. Not having the resources to go after him, Aggie turns to Jack’s twin brother, Richard, his wife and their military son Will for help.
Will, Aggie and Will’s friend Tyler head over to Greece, where Jack’s trail lead to, in order to find him and Elle before Elle can be sold at auction. They also learn that Skye does not attend college in the U.K. Jack had sold her off months earlier and no one knows where she is.
It’s a race against time to find Elle before she’s sold at auction, and to find Skye before the unimaginable happens to her.
Will they find the girls in time? What else will they learn along the way?
The film is loosely based on a true story. It’s not an outrageous story either. Stuff like this DOES happen – not only around the world but also RIGHT HERE in our own country. It could be happening RIGHT NOW in your own neighborhood. It doesn’t matter if you are rich, poor, black, white, gay, straight… none of it matters. What it boils down to is people selling other people like they are objects just to make money and other people getting their jollies from owning, controlling and abusing human beings.
Human trafficking is a real thing. This film gives you only a tiny glimpse into one scenario.
I want my daughter to watch this film when she has a chance. Then maybe she’ll realize why we are overly protective of her and our son and why we want her to always be safe and aware of her surroundings. A kidnapping can happen in a heartbeat.
