My hair used to be my crowing glory. I had (notice I said “had”) lush, thick, beautiful hair when I was younger. My hairdresser (my brother-in-law’s sister) used to refer to my hair as a “lions mane.” Sadly that is not the case anymore. Decades of perming (when I was younger), coloring, age and health (thyroid) has taken my thick lush hair and transformed it into something much thinner. My hair comes out in clumps every time I wash my hair. It really saddens me.
I try and keep my hair as healthy as possible. I still get it professionally colored, but I take great care of my hair before and afterwards to avoid too much damage. I also use hair care products to keep my hair looking and feeling healthy, and I shy away from using heated products (hair dryer, hair curler…). I let my hair air dry naturally for the most part and touch it up a little bit here and there with the hair dryer or hair curler if needed.
Because my hair is very important to me, I am always on the look out for great hair care products.
I was recently introduced to the brand TruffLuv. It seems like a silly name for a haircare brand, but it’s because the brand harnesses the power of black truffles in their products.
If you are not familiar with black truffles, they provide a variety of health benefits. I would suggest doing a Google search on the benefits of black truffles. They are truly a “super food.” They are not only good for your inside, but also for your outside, including your hair.
TruffLuv offers consumers a variety of products including shampoo, hair masks, hair treatments and styling/finishing products.
TruffLuv is comprised of two exclusive lines – Nourish and Indulge. The Nourish collection was created to deeply nourish and hydrate hair by enhancing our black truffle formulas with the highest quality Argan Oil. In contrast, the Indulge collection focuses on the deluxe experiences of repair and self-care, indulging while leaving hair feeling soft, silky, healthy, and irresistibly fragrant.
The brand was kind enough to send me a couple of products to try out. I received the brand’s Truffle Mask and Truffle Serum. I already use these types of products in my hair care regime, so I was curious to see how these products compared.
I literally put some of Truffle Serum in my hair the moment I opened up the package. My hair looks decent the day I wash and air dry it. Sadly the following day or days my hair gets frizzy on the ends, most especially on my left side (I have no reason why the left side is more dry/frizzy with more split ends compared to the right side). I sleep with a sating pillow case too. I guess it has to do with how I sleep (my hair dresser tells me that hair is not the same on both sides).
According to the product description you need a pump or two in your hair, rub your hands together, then apply to your hair. They recommend from your scalp to your ends, but I just focus on the ends and/or lower half of my hair.
With the initial use I noticed an immediate difference. My hair didn’t look dry and frizzy. So far, so good…
I have been using the product every day since I received it, both on days I wash my hair and the in-between days. I have found that my hair is pretty much knot free! I don’t know if that is a benefit or not, but even when I use this in the morning on a day I don’t wash my hair, I can easily comb my hair no knots or snags. I honestly can’t remember if I had ANY knots since using the product, but to my recollection, I honestly can’t recall any.
The serum goes on smoothly and absorbs into your hair quickly. I have not experienced any greasiness. I use 1-2 pumps, normally 2 pumps on wash days and one pump on non-wash days.
The serum is blue too.
This serum has a lovely scent to it. It’s not “perfume-y,” for lack of a better word. It’s just a pleasant scent that you smell when you first use the product. It doesn’t really stay in your hair, but occasionally I do smell it if my hair gets in front of my face (people around me don’t smell it).
My hair feels very soft to the touch too.
I also received the brand’s hair mask. I normally use a hair mask 1-2 times per week (sometimes every time I wash my hair). I feel like my hair benefits from the added boost of moisturizer that masks offer.
When you open up the TruffLuv hair mask you’ll notice it has little black “beads” inside of it. I can only assume they are little beads filled with some of the ingredients. You do not feel them in your hair and they don’t show up in the bath tub. I can only assume they burst or dissolve in your hair when you use this product.
Unlike other hair masks, this one works in as little as 1-3 minutes. It rinses out nicely and didn’t leave my hair greasy.
As it is with the serum, this product also has a very pleasant scent to it. I enjoy it. This product also leaves my hair feeling very soft and easy to comb (no knots for me!).
Normally my non-hair washing days my hair just looks frizzy and horrible. Since I have been using both of these products, my hair looks and feels great and easy to comb and style.
You would think products made with black truffle would be very expensive. I find that these products are not that much more than similar products I have purchased in the past. They are both about $10 more than I normally pay and honestly, I think these products are much better. The products from TruffLuv make my hair look so much nicer and easier to manage on my non-wash days, that it’s worth paying a little extra for.
