I know this is not something that most people chat about with their friends, but let’s talk about toilet paper. They may all serve the same purpose, but not all toilet paper is created equal. Some are clearly a lot better then others. Toilet paper is actually one of the few products I don’t mind paying a little extra for if I know it feels comfortable to the skin and it’s safe for our plumbing. Bonus points given if it’s eco-friendly too.
We do have a favorite brand that we tend to stick with, but we also have a couple of other brands we are perfectly happy using too. It all depends on what we grab when we’re shopping, or what is on sale.
If you are a fan of Charmin toilet tissue by Procter & Gamble, I thought you might be interested in knowing that CVS is expanding its assortment of Charmin by now carrying Charmin Basic 1 roll. Charmin Basic is stronger then most toilet tissues, so you end up needing less. Plus it’s been tested and proven to be safe for your plumbing system.
This is rather interesting. Have you ever wondered what happens to toilet paper when it’s flushed? Well… perhaps the answer for most people is “no”, but, it is interesting. I didn’t know that a family of four would need to have their septic tank cleaned out every 2-3 years. Growing up we had a septic tank. I remember a few times we had problems with it and we had to have someone come and dig up our front yard to fix it. I don’t recall my dad having it cleaned out every 2-3 years.
There are several videos on the Charmin site that give you a lot of background about this topic. For example, this video shows how Carmin evaluates its toilet paper to ensure that it is safe for all the places it might end up after flushing (drain lines, sewers, septic tanks, and municipal waste water treatment plants). They do A LOT of testing to make sure that when Charmin is used as intended in a properly functioning plumbing system, it shouldn’t cause plumbing problems.
This is all good information to know. Currently we live in a condo and we don’t really have to worry about stuff like this. However when we move to a house we will need to make sure we protect our plumbing system. Especially because problems can cost $$$$$.
